Or is it the R-wanda dream?
I don't know where to start with this one. Unbelievable that our Dept of State could be so incompetant!
When are they going to start FIRING some people at State?

DCWoody -> RE: "The American Dream" (8/9/2010 12:00:50 PM)

I wonder if the evidence they have against her is the same sort as was against Vincent Bajinya.

He is a (now British) refugee who spoke out against the current not-so-nice (but at least not semi-genocidal like their old opponents) Rwandan government, and faced charges relating to genocide that turned out to be complete fiction, with false witnesses paid off by the Kagame regime (they're sort of democratic, vote for whichever Tutsi you like).

Any Rwandan mentioning that Kagame is more than a little heavy handed, clearly isn't a supporter of the current democratic government....and so must have been a supporter of the murderous lot. Right?

tl;dr - doubtless there are people involved with the genocide still out there, but this stinks of politics...and witnesses/statements from/in modern Rwanda aren't worth shit. Innocent until proven guilty and all that.

Jeffff -> RE: "The American Dream" (8/9/2010 12:10:44 PM)

Ok Pop's. exactly what fules your outrage here?

That's not a snark, I really want to know.

pahunkboy -> RE: "The American Dream" (8/9/2010 12:11:36 PM)

mnottertail -> RE: "The American Dream" (8/9/2010 12:15:15 PM)

Why would we fire people at state?

.....not the innocent refugee she claimed to be in 1995 to gain U.S. entry, when she applied for a visa and for citizenship.
(*Clinton (and Rwanda was in full swing, hard to get accurate accountings there*))

In early 2003, she was sworn in as a U.S. citizen and......
She worked full time from 2001 to 2005 as a family services coordinator for the Manchester Housing and Redevelopment Authority.....

(*all that is W, and we know he was asleep at the wheel when he wasn't confused or lying*)

So, between the two administrations, I think all your appointed guys are gone, the rest are government drones, not really all that involved with caring.

So, you are all set, pops.

E pluribus unum?   Isn't this a Joe the Plumber style synecdoche though?  flawed in its inception and intent?

servantforuse -> RE: "The American Dream" (8/9/2010 12:19:05 PM)

Just another ILLEGAL immigrant here in the US, scamming the system, stealing from legal citizens and breaking federal laws. Nothing to see here..

Jeffff -> RE: "The American Dream" (8/9/2010 12:30:02 PM)

Yes, like the 911 hijackers or countless nazi war criminals?

Yes it is an outrage. Let"s fire the State Dept. everytime it happens.

WTF?

mnottertail -> RE: "The American Dream" (8/9/2010 12:38:56 PM)

In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway american dream...........

That's what the fuck.

servantforuse -> RE: "The American Dream" (8/9/2010 12:42:11 PM)

We are still deporting nazi war criminals. 2 that I lknow of were recently deported, one from here in Milwaukee and the other one from Cleveland. Terrorists are being sought and arrested on a regular basis, one of the things Obama has done right.

pahunkboy -> RE: "The American Dream" (8/9/2010 12:45:34 PM)

Immigrants: the Unsung Heroes of the U.S. Economy

While illegal immigration attracts the spotlight, another facet of the issue is just coming into view: Immigrant entrepreneurs are helping fuel the U.S. economy. Recent studies show not only that immigrants are starting businesses at a faster rate than native-born Americans but that many of those businesses are refreshing neglected inner-city neighborhoods.

That's what Alfredo Rodriguez wants to do in a small corner of Newark, N.J. The native of the Dominican Republic moved to New York when he was 5 years old and has worked in the grocery business since he was 12. In 2002, he bought a 53,000-square-foot supermarket and transformed it to meet the tastes of Hispanic shoppers. Now about 90 percent of his customers are Latin American immigrants. Every week 5,000 customers visit his store for staples like frozen plantains, boosting his annual sales to $9 million.

thornhappy -> RE: "The American Dream" (8/9/2010 9:06:31 PM)

You've got someone, if the allegations are true, who slipped in on a refugee visa, ran up a bunch of debts, and now you want to abolish the whole State Department.  Dude.  Srsly.
