Twoshoes -> Breasts and safety (8/11/2010 2:46:39 AM)

A long time ago, I decided to avoid any breast trauma/torture/impact after hearing about the potentially increased risk of breast cancer and micro-tears in ligaments and connective tissue. Hard limit. I didn't actually get all the information and my judgement was based on a foggy rumor...

So could you guys please fill me in on this or point me to any relevant articles. If nothing else, I'd like to be able to explain why I don't want to be engage in this.

Cheers

I think there are many things you can do that don't involve loss of circulation and other higher risks that are still very enjoyable. This is hands down my favorite area of play as far as arousal goes and I've never had an issue.

Thanks for your input laurell3. I can think of alot of no-impact and no-binding activities which would be pleasurable.

I think my information was based on what a woman was telling me, then I looked it up on the internet and had abunch of articles saying it's a myth or that it's true (which is why internet articles suck).

Then there is stuff to actually pay attention to like where they claim the odds are positive:

But I don't know a slap is what they considering trauma or a car accident.

Perhaps I should man up and find a research doctor to talk probabilties with. That would a truly bizzare day for him or her.

No links offhand but a study by the Mayo Clinic says there is no relationship between breast cancer and trauma. What there is a relationship with is the detection of existing cancers and trauma.

Ignore the 2nd post, can't edit it. I meant to link this article instead of that irrelevant one:

Makes sense.

~FR~
My ARNP (who was also her husband's slave for awhile) said that breast bondage is not harmful as long as the breasts aren't bound so long or so tightly that they are cold to the touch, and that there is no connection between breast bondage and breast cancer. As always, this is NOT a substitute for YOUR medical professional's advice.

Breast trauma can cause lumps and bumps, which had me running to the breast cancer clinic.
It turned out to be a nothing but I spent a few worrying weeks waiting for results.
I wrote a post about it at the time but can't find it.

DesFIP has it right.  The question is a good one though.

I remember reading a medical journal from around 1880 noting that a tumor that is traumatized has a great risk of causing other tumors.  That was 130 years ago!

The most common breast cancer DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma in Situ) almost never metastasizes to other areas of the body.  A lot has to do with whether or not a tumor invades capillaries--if it does, and tiny bits break off, that bit can lodge someplace (lymph node, lungs, bone, liver, etc) and become a tumor in itself.  DCIS does not invade capillaries.

Yet I know personally of a woman who enjoyed rough play and whose dominant did also, who developed DCIS which was in her case far more invasive and spreading (into the lymphatic system) than is usually expected.  I believed that breast trauma (consensual and desired) was a factor in aggravating (causing the tumor to spread into her lymphatic system) her cancer.  As DesFip stated trauma can cause tumors to spread and I think that is what happened here.

Perhaps this is a good reason for frequent mammograms, especially for women between the ages of 40-50 which is the age group where the most aggressive tumors initiate.  Cancer initiating beyond age 50 is generally much slower to spread and less aggressive.  I hypothesize that rough breast play between age 40 and 50 might be a bad idea, or at least perhaps the play should be confined to that which does not cause deep trauma.
