thornhappy -> Beck/Tea Party/Sponsors (8/26/2010 6:02:01 PM)

I saw this article in the NYTimes about Freedom Works' "how to" workshop given to 50 Tea Party activists for the Tea Partiers into * gasp * community organizers to get out the vote. You know, like Obama was. Guess it's ok now. They're urged to read Alinsky (what's good for the goose is good for the gander, I guess), A Force More Powerful, and The Law (governments are stealing to tax citizens to spend of welfare, infrastructure, or public education). FreedomWorks "was founded in 1984 as Citizens for a Sound Economy, which was financed by the Koch Foundation, the underwriter for many libertarian causes. In 2003, it hired as its chairman Dick Armey, the former Texas congressman and House majority leader who was a force behind the 1994 Republican takeover of Congress. " The article's too long to quote here, but it's interesting to see the tie between the consultant- and Republican-related Tea Party organizations that seem to have co-opted the movement, and Beck's ties to the Tea Party. Beck's upcoming rally is ostensibly a charity event, but the rally's expenses are paid by the first $1 million in contributions. I find this really bogus, and it's usually frowned upon in fund-raising circles. Doesn't the guy pull down enough money to pay for this himself? Since it's funding a non-profit, all the speakers have to be non-political, but whew. It'll be interesting to see if Palin can restrain herself.
