I am not getting your point. You seem to disagree with my statement and then you end up agreeing that self acceptance and confidence are what matters since you cannot change the world's view, only your own reaction to it.

My point however, is that I know many younger women who are beautiful and not thin and they all look fantastic, no one looks disgusting. And I have news for you: young people are cruel to everyone. My gorgeous THIN nieces get called fat at school out of jealousy.

As I have said ad nauseum, BBW was a term coined in the 70's in the fashion industry when we were modeling plus sized clothes. It was taken on as a descriptor only when online dating started as a way to describe oneself to prospective daters.

I am disgusted by those who act like the label police. I love it; saying a woman who calls herself a BBW is doing it to assist her with her self esteem is the same as saying someone who calls themselves a sub, or a slave, or a switch or skinny or small boned, or cute, or any number of descriptors is doing so just to boost their self esteem.

It is thinly disguised bashing.

having recently gone back to school shopping with my two pre-teen nieces and their mom, your statement actually made me giggle.

So...here is a newsflash right back at you...they do NOT always wear what looks good on them. Many times they choose the "in" style as opposed to one more suited to their weight and body type.

And as far as the parents guiding the kid as to what looks good...are we on the same page here? I was talking about pre-teen/teenage girls.
If you ever wonder how much value a girl that age will put in the opinion of Mom, as opposed to her desire to wear what all her friends are wearing...take a few shopping, and listen to the interactions of other girls/moms in the fitting rooms.

I do not need any term to define the wonder that is me. You can call me fat, BBW, lard ass, or what ever other term/label you can think of and still they are only words. They can only effect me negatively or even positively if I allow them to. I am what I am and damn proud of every inch and pound. Variety is the spice of life. We are not all made from the same mold. To have preferences is fine. To make general blanketed assumptions about a group of people (as in fat, short, skinny ect...) leaves the one assuming looking like an ass.
