hlen5 -> What Would It Take....? (8/31/2010 2:13:11 PM)

..for the general opinion of the boards to change someone's reputation from troll to just another poster? Is redemption possible?

If genuine contrition and an attitude change occurred could the past animosity be overlooked?

This post was inspired by the "Save Yourself" thread.

They would have to stop being themselves.......... an anti troll.

I doubt it is possible.

And yet, you love me like no other.

I've seen it happen for at least one other person.

Redemption is possible, for those who are intelligent and motivated enough to kick themselves in the groin for being a troll, and step up.

It does happen, stranger things have happened on the boards outside of CM that I mod. The biggest trolls usually don't change, these are the people who constantly sign up and post again under a different name, forcing me to IP ban. Sometimes people just get emotional over something, they start posting in caps, bold letters, consecutive posts calling out multiple people and it can be just like having a bad day.

Not impossible, just improbable.

Um, sorry to intrude here, but isn't responding to or acknowledging the drama, spreading the drama?

Why not just look, look again, see that it's of no value, and move on?

Jeff

Well with many of the people here, the chances of that are next to zero. Seems that once their mind is made up about a person, irregardless if it's accurate or not, their opinion of the outcast will not change.

First you'd have to believe that you are the kingshit of CM enough to pass judgment of trolldom to begin with then you'd have to grace said troll with your golden pardon certificate..said troll would then have to give a shit about all of that for it to work of course or at least pretend to go along with it to satiate your ego and fantasy for this to happen.

It could happen.[8|] At least part of it is likely.

Eventually you would live it down. But I don't think a true troll has it in them to change overnight. Not without some kind of traumatic event that made them realize they didn't like the person they were. And trolls always believe they're right and the rest of the world is wrong. That kind of delusional thinking requires therapy.

A troll really doesn't care to change, in my observation.

If someone who is normally a twatwaffle makes a good post, I respond to it as if it was a good post. If they keep posting like a decent person, instead of who they are, then they will do just fine.

It's happened a few times.

A willingness to take other people seriously and to be taken seriously, IMO.

I can think of a few names.
