That the building of a Mosque at ground zero won't happen.

Interesting that. I especially liked this passage: "They warned that the plan would put Americans in danger around the world. In Afghanistan, hundreds of angry Afghans burned an American flag and chanted "Death to the Christians" to protest the planned Quran burning."

I suppose though they were just hundreds of extremists, and we'll need to pray for them, turn the other cheek and hope they find their way back to the true teachings of Islam.

The plot thickens...Musri has stated more then once he made no "deal"...only that he would set up a meeting betweens Jones and the NY leaders.   Jones is saying something a little different.....

Lets  see what tommorrow brings.

Jones insisting that there was no deal because he had his fingers crossed?

This is ridiculous, the story changes minute by minute!   Now, Imam says no deal, the Mosque won't be moved and Terry Jones stated he has been lied to.   When asked if the burning will go ahead as planned, no comment.

Problem now is that if this knob head decides to burn some autumnal leaves there'll be outrage.

This poses the question as to if it matters one way or another now? The damage is done and nobody in the rest of the world is going to care if he does or doesn't actually burn books. The suggestion is just as bad as the act itself.

The horse has bolted.

Pointless debate (the mosque AND the book burning). None of us should have any concern about any of it. They are free to build, and to burn, as they see fit.

Hey witty,

No is debating their right or freedom.  I think people are more concerned about the aftermath of the actions.

At least thats where I was coming from.  :)

I guess where I'm coming from is that they'll have to deal with the aftermath, if there is one, themselves. And if there's aftermath for others, they'll have to take it up with him in the appropriate ways. No amount of "but giving him/them his/their rights may cause problems!" is sufficient to take his/their rights away. They are there for a reason and must be respected even when it's hard to do so. Rights aren't there for when it's easy to respect them, but for when it ISN'T.

I don't hear anyone saying it's not his right, but rather his refusal to acknowledge that by excersising this right, lives will be lost.    What about the rights of those who are being put in further danger by this mans actions?  They are already risking much, why add gasoline?

Burn, don't burn, the point was made.  As the protests grow stronger in Afghanistan, hopefully our men and women won't have to pay the price of one person feeling his right to do something means more then their lives.

Frankly, I think he got what he wanted.  His main goal was to bring attention to the mosque at ground zero.  Mission achieved.

Whats ironic, is that we founded this country on religious freedom, we left so we could have the rights not afforded to us in England, yet nothing was learned.  Religous beliefs have fueled more wars then not.

This is bad, a terrorist act to fight terrorism.   How Christian of these folks.  Next thing you know, they will join forces to lay the cornerstone of a mosque in whatever area gets approved.  perhaps a minaret on the Reverend's own church.  There is no right answer out of this mix.  Everybody walks away singing Kumbaya.

Burning books aint terrorism, no matter how hard you try and spin it.

Amazing how small this world truly is considering Jones was in high school with Limbaugh.

It would be great if his Church burned down.

if that happened, this pastor will be the first to say it was the Islamists thus creating more tension. If this pastor is seeking a sign from god and his god is listening then a sign he should have ,a juicy bolt of lightning will do, I wonder what the weather is like around there today.

I have said in the past that I can understand the emotion of New Yorker's not wanting a mosque at ground zero.  But, I've also learned the mosque they are planning to build is actually a renovation of a mosque thats been there the whole time.  And its not at ground zero.  So to say "I won't burn a Kuran if you don't build a mosque at ground zero" is kind of moot.

None the less, I'm glad that crazy preacher decided not to burn it.  I can remember a picture of a mother on TV crying over her son's grave when he got killed in the Iraq war.  He was an American.  And he was also a Muslim.  How sad to think that someone who served this country didn't (or people don't want him to) have the same freedom of religion that other Americans are privileged to.

I disagree.

Depending on your definition of 'terrorism', it is very possible that book burning is terrorism. Does it create fear and terror? I think it does. Therefore it is terrorism.

Willbeur, if you don't have an argument to make why bother wasting the keystrokes?
