I loved the stage at Hellfire. Not quite the NYC scene you listed but it was a pretty large and lively crowd nonetheless.

It is truly a shame you do not get the same quality of people today as you did back then who were genuine seekers of more from humanity. Hellfire Club in NYC was the only S&M club I ever liked. I did not go often to clubs back in the day, but Hellfire was the first one I felt comfortable in and the vibe was the great. The original one though, not the subsequent one.

The scene stopped being cool after Gianni Versace was killed, in 1997. In the Gautier and Versace era, there was a close tie between high fashion and kink. That was fun while it lasted, but it's over. The SF scene today, frankly, is loser city.

If you wanted to meeet for kink, you had to ACTUALLY SIT DOWN AND WRITE A LETTER...imagine that! They were more sincere, because there weren't millions and millions of people wanting to "explore."

But can you imagine though? You had to actually gasp put some effort into meeting someone! People had more respect for one another and were actually willing to learn and you didn't get anywhere near the same level of abusers that you have today. I know, I know! Such hardships and you did not have to deal with nearly as many idiots because they quickly got screened out at the door! Yes, it was more difficult to connect with clubs, parties and other people but in such hardship was the fact that only those who were genuinely serious would find their way to where they needed to be.

Many single men weren't allowed in because they were.. um single and it was the women that were in shorter supply, so we had to get rid of them. Then those who were let in were lecherous men with gold chains around their neck and a bit of hair hanging out of their opened shirts that thought they were gods gift to women with three strokes and your out kind of sex, who thought all women should spread um wide for some little cock. No.. we didn't have any of the abusers... of course not! We have as many puffed up hornies around then as we do now, its is just easier for them all to make their presence known because of computers. Yes we did have to write letters and arrange for calls... or go to parties... but there were as many creepy creeps then as there are now comparatively speaking. This thread is like saying that food tasted better when you were young. ....... of course it did - your taste buds were younger! The good old days are never as good as remembered - there seems to be a lot of rewriting of history going on. I remember the 80's - not in a bdsm way - and there were a lot of nights spent in a bar or pub, wanting to meet someone with no success. For me the internet has provided a marvelous way of meeting men wanting to date, and i've taken full advantage of it. The two men who are and have been my dominants were men i would never have met in pre-internet days, and what a shame that would have been. For that matter, the internet is how i discovered bdsm and threw myself into it, and i don't think that makes me a poser, a wanker or a wannabe. It makes me real and lucky, and really lucky that the internet has allowed so many to connect with so little effort. Just because i can get my milk from a jug doesn't mean i don't appreciate it as much as if i had to milk the cow! Actually, it makes me appreciate the convenience more.
