Has anyone heard about the new program being aired, "Sister Wives", dealing with multiple wives under one roof?

I caught a glimpse of advertising, but was curious if anyone else had seen this newest reality show and what they thought of it.

I don't think it has started yet. If I remember correctly it will start Monday. I saw them on a talk show for a couple of minutes last night. One man and I think there were five women. I am interested in watching the show, but didn't catch what network or anything.

I think I saw it previewed on TLC.

Looks interesting. I'm waiting for the "Brother Husbands" version [;)]

I saw it previewed, so I read an article about it. There is a massive difference between paternalistic polygamy and egalitarian polyamory. There is nothing kinky about this series. It seems kind of sad.

AlwaysLisa -> RE: Sister Wives (9/26/2010 8:27:57 PM)

Well, just saw the first episode.   I was pleasantly surprised.  The last few attempts at showing this way of life had the fathers unemployed and living off the state.   This is a breath of fresh air.   One thing that was interesting..seperate living quarters.  Each wife has their own kitchen, bedroom, living room, plus rooms for their kids.

Seems draining on the guy, he has to make time for each wife, and theres only so many hours in the week!    The kids looked happy, the house was clean and everyone except the third wife held full time jobs.

Lets see what next week brings, the dad is bringing in a fourth wife, and they hinted at the end of this show that some issues were coming up.   Maybe three is enough, lol

No kink takemeforyourown, it's geared more towards how they get through a typical day with 12 kids, that is kinky enough!

BoredAsHell -> RE: Sister Wives (9/27/2010 6:40:40 AM)

one would think with three wives and 12 going on 13 kids he'd have enough to keep him busy. what the hell does he need another wife and three more kids for? the money and the time only go so far, seems like someone is going to get left out.

Missokyst -> RE: Sister Wives (9/27/2010 8:57:34 AM)

I'd be up for watching a show that showed 5 husbands and one wife.  Hell... I'd be signing up for that show.  :)

janigrey -> RE: Sister Wives (9/28/2010 1:43:06 PM)

a friend of mine pointed out that one of the wives wanted to point out - that they only sleep with the husband - not with each other "beacause we're not weird"

I guess being a bisexual is weird to them.

I think having an assload of children because you're god says so is weird.

I didn't watch the show because I only have the most basic of cable tv....[:)]

That being said, am I the only one who notices that most shows portraying multiple partners within a "marriage" or family seem to be inevitably tied to FLDS church?

If I'm missing something, please feel free to share. I'm not a huge tv viewer so maybe I am.

I'm interested in the show because I feel like it's a stepping stone towards getting poly more accepted. It's more traditional, historically speaking, for a man to have many wives. So I feel that it's going to be accepted first. Men with mutiple partners are studs, women are sluts, etc. While they are not poly, I do believe that seeing a family "work" and have healthy dynamics and happy children with mutiple wives is going to open minds a bit. It's a lot easier to explain poly - in a short form - when you can go "Well, it's kinda like X, only in our relationship we do this Y and Z differently".

Basically, it creates a framework that can be built off of in terms of explaination and understanding.

Yes apparently the Sheriff there has a bug up his ass.

I do like this comment,

"It has been our office's position not to pursue cases of bigamy between consenting adults," the attorney general's spokesman, Scott Troxel, said Tuesday. "We want to use our resources wisely."

Apparently it isnt only TLC trying to make a buck off someones way of life. [:-]

I'm still trying to figure out the religion aspect of this whole thing.  Kody Brown made it quite clear, in fact stated it several times, that they were old school Mormons, not the newer branched LDS, they are both technically Mormon, no?

It's hard for me to read, so I don't get too far on the differences, but one thing I noticed...was that the women in SW, wore modern clothing, not the typical pioneer dresses we have seen in the past.   If a religion allows and promotes a lifestyle that is against state law...how far does the protection go?   I guess we will find out.

The current LDS or Mormon church doesn't recognize any of the different sects which practice ploygamy.

A friend of mine sent me this link, The History of Mormon Polygamy, which offers a brief explaination of mormon fundamentalism and its practice today.

So I've watched this show a couple of times now and tonight's show is just pissing me off more and more. Does anyone else find this show to just be completely moronic?

I mean he's out there gathering up his little harem of girls and impregnating them, raising an army of children and they can't even afford to fix the window of one of the cars that is taped together to keep it from falling out.

And it doesn't even seem like everyone is all that happy and sorry but he just seems a little dim to me.

Am I missing something?

BONDAGEis4Lvrs -> RE: Sister Wives (10/10/2010 8:36:23 PM)

I thought it was pretty irritating that he just keeps adding women when his original wife is unhappy about the the prospect of the fourth. This doesn't seem healthy or consensual for all involved.

Nope it's a goddman mess and he's a typical chauvanist and they can't even afford the kids they have, the wives aren't happy and it's just ridiculous. Ick.
