Hello I dont know if this is the right spot, for this so I apologize if its not.

Since having my baby I have had a hard time grooming my genital region, I am always having razor burn and unable to get completely smooth. Any suggestions?

Have you tried waxing?

Well..i haven't had a baby but i did just recently start shaving down there instead of trimming and the first time i had horrible razor burn and bumps and a slight skin infection i think.  It was to the point where it was extremely embarassing and i wouldn't let anyone see me until it was gone.  Some even filled up with puss..ick..it was awful.  Anyway..after that i decided that was NOT going to happen again.  Now immediately after i get out of the shower and have dried off i lather myself up everywhere that a razor has touched with cocoa butter.  Hasn't happened since.  I do it every day until the hair starts growing back enough to shave off again.

takemeforyourown -> RE: Shaving (10/7/2010 9:30:42 PM)

That's a good idea, Ripen. I just scratch all the time, lol!

ResidentSadist -> RE: Shaving (10/7/2010 10:13:55 PM)

As already suggested, shave after shower/bath so skin and hair are good an moist.  Then use baby oil, hair conditioner or any ofthe other tips in this thread:

Use Tend Skin. Takes care of it immediately.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Shaving (10/8/2010 4:10:45 AM)

When i first started shaving, i used tribiotic ointment -  both as a moisturiser and as an anti-infection thingy. I still had the occasional ingrown hair, but none of the nasty infected hair follicals that i had the first time i started to shave.  Now, i don't bother with anything. Its like the skin gets toughened up or something - after a while.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Shaving (10/8/2010 4:12:31 AM)

Laser.

sub1exploring -> RE: Shaving (10/8/2010 10:15:14 AM)

Thank you so much for the ideas. I will try today to shave after the shower instead while showering and use the cocoa butter. I will look for tend skin. I am scared that waxing may hurt too much and dont have the money for laser hair removal.

Greetings sub1exploring,

You can offset your problems by following the advice given and making sure that you're using a quality razor. Oftentimes the unsightly burn is due to substandard products. Also, some women have given good reviews on Coochy shaving cream. You can find it at Amazon or other online retailers. I can attest to Tend Skin's effectiveness, but you may experience discomfort. I typically use it elsewhere. Best of luck.

Namaste,

~porcelaine

Tip 1
'King Of Shaves' shaving oil. You only need a few drops...

I find that on its own, it isn't brilliant, but used underneath shaving foam (apply the oil first, then foam) it makes a real difference.

Conditioner is a reasonable cheap alternative.

Tip 2
If you find foam prevents you from seeing what you are doing, then you need 'King Of Shaves' Gel...

This stuff comes in a sensitive skin version, and there's an anti-bacterial version too, which I avoid because I am not convinced that Triclosan is something I want anywhere near me. Use it with plenty of water. More water, paradoxically, makes it more slippery. I use this on top of the Oil, because I am a bear.

Tip 3
Buy a proper razor. Disposables are too light, and rarely sharp enough. Don't mess about with women's razors - you're probably just paying extra for something that looks like a pink dildo. Twin blades are plenty enough, and more accurate. The little lubra-strips seem to be good, if you soak the blade for a few minutes before using it. Don't bother to keep the blade for a second use. Use it once, and dump it. You may even need two blades if you are doing more than just touching up. Keep the blade wet, and well rinsed. Go with the hair, never against it.

Tip 4
Get rid of as much hair as possible before going anywhere near yourself with a razor. I use an electric trimmer to get the hair down to an eighth of an inch before using the razor. It might be overkill buying a trimmer if you are going to keep yourself smooth forever after, but scissors are a real pain. If you must use scissors, use a comb to protect yourself and put it between skin and scissors. The idea here is to reduce the number of strokes of the razor you use over the same spot.

Tip 5
Moisture. Have a shower or a bath first.

Tip 6
Persevere. At first, you will itch and you will get spots from ingoing hairs. But this seems to go away in time. Good hygiene will help minimise the trouble.

cajingrl -> RE: Shaving (10/9/2010 3:49:37 PM)

I don't ever use razors of any kind. I always us Nair Hair remover, bikini cream. Just put it on, leave it for the amount of time that's neeeded, and wipe away. I use the Vanilla Smoothie so it doesn't smell like Nair. The only place you may need to use a razor is inside the lips.

Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. Hope it works

Don't shave when you first wake up.

During sleep, your body fluids accumulate under the skin and make the skin puffier. Wait 30 minutes until the fluids regress.  Your skin will be taut with the hair shaft more exposed. - Secret Agent Shaving Tip # 11

BbcSlutKc -> RE: Shaving (11/5/2010 9:30:29 AM)

bikini zone works very well for me, the shave gel and lotion.

After reading this comment, I went on Amazon and bought some Tend Skin lotions. I have used it for few weeks now and it does work! Thanks for the advice.

vixenkneels -> RE: Shaving (11/7/2010 10:10:56 AM)

If you are not allergic to aspirin in any way try dissolving 4 to 6 aspirins in about 1/4 cup of warm water and use cotton balls to dab the solution on the entire shaved area and let it dry naturally. I use the generic aspirins and find it's SO much cheaper than Tend Skin, Bikini Zone, etc. I too use hair conditioner rather than a shaving cream or gel and I also use a pretty stiff brush to exfoliate before I shave. I know it sounds like a lot to do but if you shave every day like I do it becomes the norm and I haven't had the red bumps or ingrown hairs for years.

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: Shaving (11/11/2010 11:37:02 AM)

I shave but I also apply aloe vera gel to that area

LatherMaster -> RE: Shaving (12/5/2010 7:46:01 AM)

I've had a kink for shaving for a very long time, and I'm very good at it. LM

LadyConstanze -> RE: Shaving (12/5/2010 8:19:21 AM)

A lot of good advice here, but also exfoliate as if your life depends on it, fresh razors always, conditioner or shaving lotion (whatever works for you best) and then moisturize, cocoa butter, baby oil, body lotion, whatever is best for your skin
