I rarely find that the word "should" has a place in talking about relationships. Granted, it does happen but not nearly as often as "do what pleases you".
I, personally, need verbal gratitude. That doesn't mean people "should" give it. Just that the owners involved with me need to know that I thrive best on being clearly appreciated.
Other subs/slaves/pets/etc. have different needs and different desires.
