ORIGINAL: igor2003 There may be a few places in the US where taking out the traffic signals would work, but I don't think the mindset of the US drivers would allow for it in too many places. Too many US drivers are over aggressive with a "me first" attitude. It is pretty much just my opinion (I don't really have any "facts" or references to back it up) but I think the people of the UK are more considerate, with more manners than the people of the US, which would make things like taking out traffic lights more successful for them. I don't have any evidence either, but I can assure you that the British can be as rude and selfish as anyone else. Some of us even make it our job to be so. For example, I always give way to people who need to merge into a lane of traffic, or pull out of a side-street, or whatever unless they are pushy. If I get even the faintest indication that they see it as their right, or that they don't care, then I shut them out, deliberately and conspicuously. My car is only worth a few hundred pounds, and I know exactly how wide it is and how long it is. Usually, the person who has irked me will be some git in £40,000 worth of Audi or BMW - they always back down in the end - even if it's in the last inch or so. I know. I'm not proud of it, but there it is.
