Mercnbeth -> Public Display (9/29/2004 10:11:10 AM)

Does anyone wear in public any type of lifestyle jewelry or patch that would identify them as active in the community? I'm not talking about a collar or bracelet which identifies your comment to each other. We're referring to something like the attached picture.

I (Merc) wear this as a necklace and also have a ring with this symbol. beth has a matching ring.

To those who do wear something like this we were wondering if anyone has been asked about it? It happened once to us and resulted in a woman being joining our little community in LA. she still is grateful that she overcame her nervousness to comment on beth's ring. she was a checkout person at a grocery store. she was very interested in finding people in the lifestyle but was only getting lurkers and wannabes from the internet. We were happy to have been able to help her in her search, and have remained good friends.

In case anyone is not familiar, this is a little history on this symbol from this site link http://www.cufsmaine.org/bdsmflag.htm:

quote:

The BDSM Emblem has no "obvious" symbolism because it was created to be enigmatic. To the vanilla observer who would be put off by BDSM, it is merely an attractive piece of jewelry. Thus, we can wear it freely as a friendly salute, nod, and wink to other BDSMers we should happen to pass on the sidewalks and in the hallways of our daily lives.

To the insider, however, the Emblem is full of meaning.

The three divisions represent the various threesomes of BDSM. First of all, the three divisions of BDSM itself: B&D, D&S, and S&M. Secondly, the three-way creed of BDSM behavior: Safe, Sane, and Consensual. Thirdly, the three divisions of our community: Tops, Bottoms, and Switches.

It is this third symbolism that gives meaning to the holes in each unit. Since BDSM is at the very least a play style and at its greatest a love style, the holes represent the incompleteness of any individual within the BDSM context. However "together" and "whole" individuals may be, there remains a void within them that can only be filled by a complimentary other. BDSM cannot be done alone.

The resemblance to a three-way variation on the Yin-Yang symbol is not accidental. As the curved outline of Yin and Yang represent the hazy border between where one ends and the other begins, so do the curved borders here represent the indistinct divisions between B&D, D&S, and S&M.

The metal and metallic color of the medallion represents the chains or irons of BDSM servitude/ownership. The three inner fields are black, representing a celebration of the controlled dark side of BDSM sexuality.

The curved lines themselves can be seen as a stylized depiction of a lash as it swings, or even an arm in motion to deliver an erotic spanking. The all-embracing circle, of course, represents the overlying unity of it all and the oneness of a community that protects its own.

Merc Sir: while this slave doesn't wear anything but her collar and has been questioned about it by a few people, she does tend munches within the leather community, and has seen some of the different types of jewlery that some wear. even outside the leather community she has seen some wear some very interesting jewlery, and has asked about it, in fact that is how she originally came to be in the lifestyle was by meeting her deceased Master through some friends and pointing out that she like His ring and things went from there for her. she doesn't oftne speak of her past but the Master she had at the time was wearing a necklace with a Celtic Cross and in the middle was a design (been so long she can't remember the design) that caught her eye. this slave then started talking to Him and became His slave until the day He died.

My ex wore a triskellion on a necklace that I bought for him, I'm not sure if he still does.

On my trip to the States this month, I painted a purple triskellion on either side of my suitcase, so that I'd recognise when it came through the baggage carousel. I'm not sure if anyone recognised it [:)]

I've been out of the loop for so long the symbols have changed. I used to wear "leather pride" rings on my jacket -alternating blue, black, and silver rings with one red ring in the shape of a heart - but then I disappeared into suburban limbo and adopted vanilla drag for its protective camoflage.

Our local BDSM club has T-shrits and tank tops. I wear mine whenever the fancy strikes me. If someone asks what Desert Dominion is, I tell them. If they then knit their brows and purse their lips in confusion, I know I need not give any more information. I don't wear it though as a form of advertisement for the club...I'm just rather proud of who I am .

That's the feeling we have about it. We're comfortable with who we are and even have gotten to enjoy seeing the question mark eyes when we answer truthfully about beth's collar or the jewelry.

hehehe...sometimes that question mark is amusing, isn't it?

I have a triskelion tattooed on my the underside of my right wrist. It is a little larger than a quarter. And looks like the window piece Topcat has at his new place. With the traditional black with silver chain.

M. Merc-

I wear a leather pride flag pin on the left breast of my jacket, and when riding will use my leather bandana/neckercheif thing to 'flag' in my left hip pocket. There's a two inch trisk in the back window of my work truck, and one on the windshield of the bike. And there is a large one in the window facing the street in my new apartment.

(jeez- I should just get a billboard, huh? or maybe a radio ad?)

I have actually been toying with the idea of having MizSuz Brand me with a trisk, but it's been about five years, and I'll likely not get around to it ( Iactually like the flag better, but the trisk makes a better brand).

Occasionally someone asks or comments on it, but for the most part, they are people that already know my habits.

Lawrence

Sir and beth,

We have our tats which are visible and wear a matching ring.
that matches the completed tatoo on Master's shoulder.

We too love the shock value..... especially when someone ask
if HIS wife and stormi are sisters.....it's great to watch them as
stormi replies with,

"No, He is this gir's Master, this girl stormi is slave to HIM, and
SylverDawn is His wife"...

rofl..... and then when they say really... just give them enough to
make their wife yank them by the ear.... (the men seem eager to
know more [;)]) Who wouldnt want two women to adore them?
It's not for everyone but some enjoy... LOL

Take care and thanks for question

I wear Pagan things the odd time. I favour a red jasper rock at the moment. I don't wear or own anything BDSM related. It's enough just being open about being Pagan. I also feel both are personal choices and I don't owe anyone an explanation or plan to convert them. (Don't think I'm over doing it, I have been told we Witches are just evil minions out to convert everyone to satan, more than once.)

hrm... I was always taught it's better to avoid closed symbols like that for branding. The branding itself cuts off blood circulation for the interior parts, and even if its done in stages, the inner (unbranded) areas can become necrotized and infected. However, that's a topic of a different thread: branding....for real??!!

Mercnbeth -> RE: Public Display (9/30/2004 10:22:19 AM)

Wow, that's great!

My favorite similar story is when my ex-bitch (whoops meant wife) saw beth for the first time. In her best sarcastic voice she said; "So, this is you new red-headed girlfriend I've been hearing so much about." It was great to see her jaw drop when I said; "No - beth's my red-headed slave." Her face was redder then beth's ass after a good spanking as she turned and walked away.

There may be another option. At Folsom I saw someone using some sort of laser knife to make a brand like mark on someone's body. In fact he was getting the 'trisk' just above his ankle. It looked about the size of a tattoo needle but, based on the person's reaction being marked, it looked like, and felt the same a branding. It had the same flesh/hair burn smell during the process. The laser was very precise and made fine lines, but it was a slow and obviously very painful process.

Maybe some of the more experienced people here are familiar with it and can enlighten us more. I had never seen that before and don't remember ever hearing about that technique. I meant to go ask about it later, but got 'distracted'.

stef -> RE: Public Display (9/30/2004 12:34:52 PM)

It was probably an electro cautery unit, not a laser. Cautery brands are becoming much more popular since they allow for much more intricate designs.

INSIDEYOURMIND -> RE: Public Display (9/30/2004 4:58:04 PM)

My sub wears a simple silver band around her neck at all times, when we are alone, or out for a night of fun, she switches to a leather collar that I made myself.
She also wears a Story of O ring, which I think is a perfect symbol for us.

I recently gave her a bracelet that is fun, and to the point, I have enclosed a photo, she has no issues with wearing it in public, and when questioned she is proud to tell any the true meaning.

stormi,
Thank you. Now you have me wondering what exactly it was I saw. I don't think this was temporary. Next time I see one, I'll be sure to ask. Not considering this for beth at the moment.

Appreciate you helping to expand my knowledge. My gratitude to you and your Master.

Merc & beth

danae -> RE: Public Display (9/30/2004 6:52:33 PM)

My formal "collar" is around my wrist, but my Master also gave me a decorative soft black leather collar, with "submissive" spelled in half inch high silver letters. Subtle, but explicit. It's interesting to watch people's eyes as they read it. lol
