VideoAdminTheta -> RE: Is all American conservatism based upon fear? (10/27/2010 5:53:01 PM)

Please return to the topic.

Thank you

Lucylastic -> Is Is all American conservatism based upon fear? (10/27/2010 6:03:24 PM)

Changing the title back to the original question, ( how childish)
However I took it to be conservatism, not conservatives, BIG difference

tazzygirl -> RE: Is Is all American conservatism based upon fear? (10/27/2010 6:08:47 PM)

quote:

Conservatism (Latin: conservare, "to preserve")[1] is a political and social philosophy that promotes the maintenance of traditional institutions and supports minimal and gradual change in society. Some conservatives seek to preserve things as they are, emphasizing stability and continuity, while others oppose modernism and seek a return to "the way things were."

So some believe it should stay the way it is... and others believe it should go back to the way it was. The former... conservatism... the latter.. conservatives?

LOL @ the definition.

On the other hand, disdain for conservatives is based on jealousy of corporations and wealthy people, that is a fact.

Thanks for that.

It is always nice to have someone who knows the facts.

allyC -> RE: Is all American conservatism based upon fear? (10/27/2010 6:33:21 PM)

(Using Fast Reply)

Conservatives are conservative because that is what they believe in. Do some choose that belief out of fear? Sure! I'll be some do. Just as some liberals choose their beliefs out of fear.

I've met racist democrats and socially liberal republicans.

Each person's political belief is based on their own choices. The motivation of each individual's choice is going to be different from person to person.

Sure, there are sheeple everywhere - in every party but lumping every conservative into one basket is ridiculous. Calling them all racists is rude.

Well wishes,

Cav's ally

PatrickG38 -> RE: Is all American conservatism based upon fear? (10/27/2010 7:35:00 PM)

I am hardly calling all conservatives racist (although there are too many) nor do at all mean to belittle real conservatism that seeks to slow the pace of change.  I am talking about the bastard philosophy of modern American conservatism that is radical in it irresponsibility (the idea of a serious conservative supporting someone with Christine O'Donnell's record is ludicrous) and seems to be based solely on fear and greed.  After all, a true conservatism would have to possess a critique of the free-market system which has been the fundamental cause of family destruction and changing social mores (there are such critiques, but they are not a substantial part of the American conservative movement).
