Jaybeee -> What I find hypocritical about Americans (Pt 1) (10/28/2010 12:03:14 PM)

Here it is; during most of Dubya's (Bush Jnr, to non-americans) reign, actually opposing him was considered almost sacrilegious, given that America was supposedly at "war", and that the Government deserved the people's fullest support. Well, if the chatter on websites was any guage.

Yet most of the 'American Spirit' stems from what you Americans term believe is a healthy suspicion, and sometimes disdain of your government in particular, and any authority in general. You consider that a "freedom", and indeed it is. It is no bad thing when the government fears the people, and it is always a bad thing when law-abiding citizens live in fear of their government. So far, I agree.

BUT....isn't it your duty, as citizens living a democratic society, to cast the MOST brightest light of scrutiny on your government in general, and your President in particular, during any time of "war"? If he is going to send members of your society, however generally negative their peacetime contribution, to their deaths, shouldn't you be ask, no, demanding more accountability, more reporting, more transparency - not less?

OP,

Our media and the grid is HIGHLY controlled.   The peon has no say so in governance.  None.

There is a segment who is questioning things- and we get called nuts, conspiracy theorists.

There is alot of money to be made off of war and the status quo.

Nahhh, that's not how it works.

How it works is:  If it's a Republican President, then he's a nazi-right-wing-rich-warmonger, who cares nothing for the Constitution, nor the lives of the soldiers and citizens.  He is doing it only to put filthy lucre into the pockets of his cronies, and their companies. It is then a patriotic right and duty to oppose him, all of his policies, and his party.  Dissent is patriotic, yanno.

On the other hand, if he is a Democratic President, then we must support him, in order to keep and return American prestige and morality to the world stage.  Of course, if the Democratic President has all the exact same policies when it comes to war (well, he might change the name of some of the programs), then he is doing it only for the highest moral reasons, and its our duty to support him, his party, and all of his policies.  Dissent is racist, comes from bigotry and out of fear and resentment.

See?  Easy once you understand how it works. [:D]

The purpose of government is to distract from the real governing hierarchy. Party politics keeps them americanos fighting amongst themselves over Rep/Dem puppetry BS, so the real perpetrators of malfeasance go unnoticed. Clearly reptilian. [:D]

GWB was criticzed and scrutinized endlessly, and attacked with lies and strawmen.

You also apparently dont understand that the POTUS cannot send anyone to war unilaterally.

WRT to reporting and transparency during wartime, it has to be balanced with security needs.

we will see no examples of this, I warrant.  Typical strawman bullshit in that statement.

The President can most definitely start a war unilaterally.

Want to name the last war that was declared by Congress as is supposedly required?

Punctiliously, not so. Not a formal declaration of war, but a resolution that sort of gave W a go ahead and do what you are gonna do anyway. Like gulf of Tonkin, the last declaration of war is WWduo.

I remember at the outset some eight plus years ago how 'conservatives' (probably RINOs, including one online friend of mine) were stressing that this was a conflict, when the liberal socialists were screaming at the top of their lungs regarding the underhanded shit going on.

Negative.

There is no requirement to put a title on the legislation that says "Declaration of War".

The Congress gave permission for Bush to use "any action necessary".

well, it didnt say anywhere near what you put in quotes, but again, you are arguing what is not prohibited by constitution, I made that argument way back when you and your friends were saying it wasn't a war.

I agree the constitution does not say it requires that language.

I said punctiliously, no.

tie your shoes is not punctilious, tie your shoelaces is.

now, why the reason for this exacting wordage?  read my posts on this unwarranted debaucle that caused us to invade another country on false pretense and bankrupt our country.........when dealing in war, everything should be exacting, no hipshooting or tailgunning.
