Buddhist here and did struggle with some things that seem to conflict. Other Buddhist in hearing our Leather House name, House Metta (www.housemetta.com if interested) often say "hey what?"

For me, it comes down to Right Action. Since no dharma text addresses power exchange relationships, I rely on Right Action to lead my role as Master. Either punishing her or Bdsm play or controlling aspect of her "feel" in line with Right Action for me.

In my experience, Buddhism has worked quite well. To be honest, I take what I can use from many different philosophies, religions and mythologies. If you feel some sort of struggle or conflict (and I have in the past) do not stress over it. Necessity will reveal itself.
On the other end -- I expect the sub or slave to have a submissive upbringing (eg. Christianity, Buddhism, etc) or else it really does not work. Those taught to kneel at the feet of a higher power are usually ready-made slaves. McSubs, if you will.

It's not the religion, per se... it's that feeling of having been part of a community. People who've seen how working together under direction can accomplish something; that moving a pebble or two every day can dismantle a mountain. They make the best 'ready-made' subs, because they've learned patience already.

It all depends upon whether you pursue buddhism in religious form or spiritual substance. And, you did not identify which tradition most influences you. In substance:

1. The polarity of control and surrender exists within every person. Enhance your awareness of who you are in both respects. Being aware of your own wholeness enables you to choose which aspect to manifest with your partner.

2. With greater awareness of your self, you then gain the self mastery to show your partner that her fulfillment is not derived from taking your ownership, but in sharing her own light. You are not her source, nor she your's. The source of fulfillment is in the only place it is ever felt, one's very own heart.

3. The reference for life is not pain/darkness, but fulfillment/light, which has always existed within. The path is removing the obstacles. False ego association of master or slave as source is such an obstacle.

4. The only true need is to be whole in yourself. With such awareness, it may be natural to engage in a polarized relationship of control and surrender. Every person has their predisposed "set point" along that continuum between polarities. Being one's true and whole self is not needing, because one's own completeness does not depend upon getting.

aldompdx thank you for your reply. I pursue Buddhism as a spiritual path rather than religiously. I struggle with the false assotiations of the ego and the master sub relationship. your post has made me think, and i thank you for that.

I just wanted to add my personal opinion here, I am not a Master, just a slaveboy, so if you don't want my perspective, just skip it, and I apologize. However, this is something I have given much thought to, so I felt I could comment.

I am a practicing Buddhist, and also a submissive slaveboy. I was concerned that my path could be damaged or slowed by my BDSM lifestyle, that it would conflict. However, after studying the Buddhist teachings more deeply, and continuing my training, I have found them to both mutually benefit each other. My Domina takes my hand and leads me into the peace that Buddhism contains, she is a teacher of life and its beauty. The similarities between mediation and sub-space and the dynamics of yin and yang, the devotion and pureness of BDSM relationship... all serve to remind me how well these practices go together.

So to answer your question, I personally feel that as a Master who travels the path, you can ONLY bring light and a divine peace with your actions with your submissive- if you are truly devoted as a Master then you are not hindering, but aiding yourself and your partner, and in that you will find your answer.

I'm not a Buddhist, but I've had a long-standing interest in Buddhism and almost converted at one point, so maybe I can put in my 2¢ if you don't mind.

What is it that you feel is in conflict? Specifically, I mean.

What jumps out at me is the sexual misconduct part of Right Action. And I don't think that kinky sex or play is necessarily in conflict with that, if it's mutually pleasurable, comes from a positive place and is enriching to your relationship. To me, misconduct would be something destructive, like cheating, manipulation, or doing something that causes her trauma or harm.

Beyond that.... as a Master, you can use your authority to guide her and help her grow as a person. Speak truthfully, care for her, live an ethical and mindful life and encourage her to do the same. If she has suffering, help her to work through it. Build her up.

Those are my thoughts, anyway.
