The couple were told they were no going to be put on the sex offenders register - which is supposed to be for rapists and paedophiles and the like. That they are not going to be on it seems sensible but the fact that they were even considered for it seems crazy.

In a way I have no sympathy for people who do stupid risky stuff like sex in public or in a car in public. I wouldn't say they deserve to be on a sex offenders list, but they do deserve what trouble outside of that they do get in my opinion. They should of known better or gotten a hotel.

they were naked in a car, having sex outside a busy hospital. They weren't in a deserted car park or down a country lane. Someone saw them doing whatever they were doing, and called the police. They put flashers on sex offenders' registers - how is fucking in full view of the public more acceptable than showing your dick to people in a park? While I think the sex offenders register may have been a little harsh, I think the penalty they DID get was very lenient.

Personally I blame the movies for this kind of behaviour. I remember seeing a naked person once, I needed counselling for five months afterwards.

there's a difference between seeing naked people and walking past a car on a public street with people fucking inside it. It's all about context.

Agreed. Country lanes and deserted car parks are fun - the idea is to have a chance of being seen or getting caught without actually being seen or getting caught. If public urination in an alley can be prosecuted as indecent exposure, two people having sex in a public place sure as hell qualifies.

As with many people here, i have participated in car sex. However. we took care to be in an out of the way place. I would think this would be common good sense, but I am clearly mistaken.

Sex Offender registries are not just for pervs... I had to be a character witness for a young sailor on charges of falsification of documents relating to his security clearance. It seems a newly graduated 18 year old was caught in a secluded area of a park with his 17 year old girlfriend. The young fellow was given a 1 year suspended sentence and 120 hours community service. Nowhere on his copies of the paperwork did it say he was now a registered sex offender but he was placed on the list. He duly reported the conviction when he applied for clearance. But.... His presence on the sex offender list almost had him doing 5-10 years in Leavenworth Prison and he was given a dishonorable discharge from service as no registered sex offender can be active duty military. In several states, the mere possession of "insertable adult entertainment devices" can land you on the registered sex offender list. Now if the luggage X-Ray wonks with TSA ever start enforcing those laws the sex offender list may get to the point they need new servers to handle the load. Stefan

Gets more absurd... If you need to make an emergency pit stop in Massachusetts, pull over to the side of the road, run into the woods to pee and a cop stops, you're gonna wind up on the sex offender registry.
