Sunnyfey -> I hate being a girl right now. (11/13/2010 3:41:15 PM)

Yeah....So I got sick about a week and a half back. Was prescribed penicillin for the infection(strep...icky).

Now I've had the normal female reaction to antibiotics...and started my period....

I FUCKING HATE EVERYTHING.

I had a hot date planned for tonight :(

Can I take out my female parts for a week? Just one week....I'll take them back after, I promise.

Good to see you again, Sunny!

If ya don't want them girl parts, send them here!  I'll take good care of them!

As far as the period, try a glass of wine, or a beer.
Just the littlest amount of alcohol always seemed to pause my cycle.

dory007 -> RE: I hate being a girl right now. (11/13/2010 4:57:11 PM)

ibuprofen can pause a period - it has anti prostaglandin properties. for the yeaastie beasties all the OTC anti fungal stuff works about the same. but use condoms. no need to spread the yeast around ;)

Eat yoghurt, use Canesten cream, and have an orgasm . . . tomorrow.

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: I hate being a girl right now. (11/13/2010 5:33:48 PM)

Nobody what I do whenever i take penicillin I get a yeast infection..Once, I ate like 5 yogurts a day lol and drank a gallon of water and STILL got one...did you know that you can use a turkey baster lol and insert PLAIN yogurt into your vagina for relief? It offers alot of relief...make sure it's room temperature if you can't handle the cold of it....There is a pill a doctor can give you for a yeast infection but I forget the name of it..along with the messy one day cream, Monostat- you should be feeling better soon...I'm sorry, I know how crappy it can feel....get some much needed rest, good luck.

tazzygirl -> RE: I hate being a girl right now. (11/13/2010 10:24:40 PM)

The pill is called Diflucan.

The insertion of yogurt into the vagina works well for some... sadly.. it makes mine worse.

To the OP... i never start an antibiotic without a prescription for Diflucan... something for you to remember next time.

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: I hate being a girl right now. (11/13/2010 10:32:20 PM)

Ugh.  I hate the yeastie beastie.

I pop a pill called Yeast Gard when I feel one creeping up, and it usually knocks it out.  The last one I had, I ended up on the YG and a cream.  Happy thoughts help.  Lots of them.  And a cold wash cloth on the bits...

Sunnyfey -> RE: I hate being a girl right now. (11/15/2010 5:46:56 PM)

Everythings cleared up now thankfully....

Been clear for about 24 hours. It's ok to have sex now right? Obviously with condoms.

From what Ive heard, maybe true or a myth but, I dont think its okay to drink when taking antibiotics. And, that there is a safe time to wait before drinking after the last antibiotic course is completed.  An alcoholic told me this, and thats why she refused to take antibiotics.

Does anyone know anything about what she told me?

LBO

Answer
from James M. Steckelberg, M.D.

The effects of combining antibiotics and alcohol can vary, depending on the specific antibiotic. Alcohol doesn't diminish the effectiveness of most antibiotics. However, antibiotics and alcohol can cause similar side effects, such as stomach upset, dizziness and drowsiness. When you combine antibiotics and alcohol, these side effects may increase.
A few antibiotics — such as metronidazole (Flagyl), tinidazole (Tindamax) and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim) — should not be mixed with alcohol because this may result in a more severe reaction. Drinking any amount of alcohol with these medications can result in side effects such as flushing, headache, nausea and vomiting, and rapid heart rate. Keep in mind that some cold medicines and mouthwashes also contain alcohol. So check the label and avoid such products while taking these antibiotics.
Chronic alcohol use and binge drinking affect the liver and may cause changes in the way some drugs, including antibiotics such as doxycycline (Vibramycin, Doryx), are metabolized. In such cases, a higher dose of antibiotic may be required to achieve the same treatment benefit.
Keep in mind that alcohol can reduce your energy and delay how quickly you recover from illness. So, it may be best to avoid alcohol until you have finished your antibiotics and are feeling better.

Sunny Fey - better that than... ohhhh....  hives or ... what's that thing where you can't breathe when you take penicillin and then you die?  That thing... better than that... *nods sagely.

i do feel for you and know what its like.

Sorry to hear your are feeling like crap. You cannot take the parts and put them back. But you can cover them up with duct tape to hide them :)

Some antibiotics have been known to cancel the effectiveness of birth-control pills, so it would be wise to check with your doctor about that and use back-up birth control for the rest of that month.

I know someone who has an anti-biotic baby!

sounds so funny, but it is absolutely possible!! Several antibiotics make oral birth control less effective...

DeviantlyD -> RE: I hate being a girl right now. (12/5/2010 11:32:06 PM)

The OP had a streptococcal infection, not a yeast infection. Yeast is a type of fungus. Streptococcus is a genus of bacteria, so it's entirely different. Just thought I'd "clear that up". [:D] Get it? *grins*
