I'm just curious about how many people here are into both Paganism and BDSM. Often the people I come across are into both. But, that could just be because I am and those are the places and people I gravitate to.

Hey Laura,

It sorta surprised me when I got to this site how many hardcore pagan-doms are out there. Most of the live-pagans I know fall into 1 of 2 catagories neither of which is condusive to B&D/S, one is the WOW I'm getting laid!!! and the other is...'you mean I have to buy more stuff?!?'

With the advent of the various Norse trads which have sprung up in the last 10 years, it follows that Dominant men looking for submissive women would follow into the secular world. Most of the pagan women I've known have a hidden Domme in them somewhere which more often that not finds its way to the bedroom eventually.

disclaimers for my breathren...and a lame attempt not to get beat up :). Yeah I know the various nordic cults have been around mroe than 10 years, they got popular since 90 in the mainstream....yes I know not all pagans are toy-orientated folks only worried about what they can get out of the Pyrimid cataglog...and yes not everybody does it in the bedroom.

Master and this slave are both into "Paganism," it's kind of strange actually because this slave didn't know He was until He told her to read His profile on alt.com. He had this slave do so because He wanted to update it but wasn't sure what to put in it and needed her opinion.

If there are Buddhists,
and Christians here, then there are Pagans.

But I am a Christian. Was once a Buddhist.

I'd love to know what everyone thinks about gods, being Witches, Pagans, etc. But that would be another whole site. I call myself an Earth Witch cause I don't believe in any gods and I worship nothing. Anyway, if others want to chat we can always pass notes back and forth.

Accually in one of the books I have about bdsm (I believe by jay wiseman) it said that a lot of the poeple that gravitate toward bdsm very highly intelligent people that tended to question the 'ordinary'. The same is true of a lot of paganism. Most (Not all:) pagans and new age type people are very intelligent and don't tend to just eat what they were told as children. So it makes a lot of sense that the two would meet. In no way Am I saying that all Christians are stupid or just blindly following so no one freak out on me. I know that's not the case. In the Wiseman book he stated that some of the best places to find SM people were at places were intelligent or odd people meet. SCA, SCIFI cons, Menza.. crap like that. It is a little harder to align a lot of Christian teachings to BDSM. I have a VERY religious Uncle who has 8 children (was 10) Most of that is the whole, sex is only for making babies. He's the way end of extreme.

To add a different spin on things I am a Catholic. Was not raised that way, but became one in my teen years (right down to the little gold cross).
I have no problem in "justifying" my BDSM side, I don't want to go into a spiritual tangent so if anyone has any questions about my justifications please ask and I will be happy to tell you

I call myself a kitchen witch. It seems to fit my beliefs and modes of worship best.

So, yeah, pagan here. The partner's an extreme atheist, using Douglas Adams' definition.

Funny this subject came back to surface.

Lately chatting with Doms i have noticed many more are Pagan then Christian or any other kind of religion. Even after reading the posts here i am still confused to why so many in the lifestyle are Pagan?

i am a Christian, it wasn't something i was brought up as a child with. I became a Christian after i was married. i don't see my Christian views interfering with my lifestyle, no i don't advertise at church my sexual desires but i don't with many of my friends, family or co workers either. I feel in the bible God said for females to submit to their husbands and things W/we do behind closed doors in private are ok long as it isn't illegal. i am probably a lot open minded about some things then other Christians are but i do believe in more of the Natural order. I don't think badly of others who don't but it isn't for me and what they do is their life and desires.

I know there is a lot of Christians in the lifestyle; I belong to a few Christian BDSM groups in Yahoo. I have not seen as many pagans on other sites either as I do here at collarme. Wonder why?

Those are my reasons as well. It clearly states in the Bible that women are to submit to their husbands, even to the point of being sold as property at times. I think that what you do behind closed doors is between you and whatever God you believe (or don't believe) in. But that's just my opinion

That is a great question jenn. It is just curious to me. I am Christian as well and see nothing wrong with BDSM and Christianity. The body is a temple and as long as I treat it well, I am doing right by God, JMO. I see nothing wrong with being a pagan either. It is just amazing the numbers of pagans I know of who are into BDSM.

Master is also an atheist and the girl is stregherian. she thinks it is not at alls trange that people who think out of scoieties box in one aspect of their lives would tend ot think out of the status quo in the rest of their lives.

I don't usually admit it, but I was once head of the local Mensa chapter. But don't tell anyone!

I'm very tolerant about beliefs. I personally am Reform Jewish. It's a religion where you're expected to think, and allowed to disagree. But so are many others, so I'm not evangelizing.

I'll have to read more about paganism. Sounds interesting.

When I was a child, I was raised in three households; My grandmother was a devout catholic. My mother was (and for the most part still is) an agnostic spiritualist. My father had been a practicing hermetic magician, who after divorcing my mother married a pagan witch. I tend to call myself pagan because I still have a strong attachment to the household gods I grew up with in my father's house, and icons of Bast and Thoth still adorn my home altar. At this point, however, what I practice is most closely described as a sort of bastardized manichean gnosticism. Essentially I believe that there is a power that encompasses all things (the gnostic appelation of abraxas seems as fitting as any name for the divine I have found), but that this essence is too vast for the limits of the human mind to comprehend, so we must therefore anthropomorphosize it in order to try and understand it. These anthropomorphic fragments are what we call gods, devils, angels, demons, and spirits. They are all abraxas, just as we are all abraxas. They answer to their names just as we answer to our names, and abraxas can't be bothered to answer at all, being only a convenient name for the inconveniently unknowable.

Strangely, while I have been involved with pagans in the BDSM community, many of whom use the power exchange inherent to D/s as a microcosmic model for their practices (and have used S&M as a context for ecstatic rituals which are meant to assist them in achieving enlightenment), my spiritual beliefs have very little to do with my sex life, other than the fact that both are a part of me.

one of my best friends is jewish and she has always been very tolerant and and understanding of my religion. She's firm in her own even if she doesn't practice it much.
There is so many differnt forms of paganism it's mind boggleing. I have called myself Wiccan in the past but I'm really not, it's just the closest thing.
My mom was in Mensa, she said it was the most boring thing she ever did. She went to on meeting and they just sat around talking about how smart they were :)
I though it was an interesting theory. I beleive the thougt was that people who are of high intelligence and the type to question what is 'right' are the kind who are most likely to find interest in 'unuseual' practices. The Jay Wiseman book was one of my favorites.

My Mensa experience was different. While I was growing up, I knew that I somehow didn't quite fit in with most kids, but didn't quite know why. I was fortunate to join a chapter of Mensa that had mostly unpretentious people in it, and suddenly I was with kindred spirits. Leading them was interesting: kind of like leading cats. You don't so much tell them what to do, as try and see what they really want to do and go along!
I can certainly see though, that a pretentious group would be boring as hell. I've since moved, and quit.

Do you think Wiccan be a good place to start looking into pagan forms? Or is there a more general starting place to learn? It occurred to me that I know quite a bit about many other religions, but almost nothing in this area, I'm sorry to say.

Wicca was were I started. There's a book called Wicca for the solitary practitioner that's pretty good. Paganism is such a large thing that's it's hard to start in one place. I kinda tend to fall into the earth religion catagory. There's one called Earth Power that good for that. Keep in mind that like everything everyone has thier own idea's and some of the books out there are a little flakey. It's a little easier to study and get the basics of most 'everyday' religions that it is paganism. hmm. I personally would stay away from Bucklands complete book of witchcraft. I know people who swear by it but it's a very you have to do it this way type of book and it's geared more for groups.
That's all I can think of right at the moment. By no means would I say I'm an expert but if you have any question feel free to ask.

Well, in my local area, the various paganoids typically self identify as "wiccan", "heathen", "pagan", or "witch" - there are a lot of variations in these groupings, and within these general blanket headings are numerous sub-traditions. Pagan usually will bring up all of the groups as a search topic, much in the way that searching for BDSM will (after slogging through fifty seven bazillion pay porno sites) turn up info on everything from leatherdaddies to old guard to gor.

The Stele of Omphalos is one of my favorite sites for research, although I haven't visited them for a while.

The Sacred Texts Archive has, if I recall correctly, a number of articles on witchcraft, wicca, and paganism.

When in doubt, of course, there is always Avatarsearch, which I don't use very often, but still has a number of interesting links, and (of course) lets you search within certian parameters, thereby narrowing your immediate field of research.

Just remember that, much like with BDSM, there are a lot of people on the internet who claim to be experienced practitioners, but are not. Take everything you learn with a grain of salt, until you have enough information to make your own informed opinions.
