Hey thornhappy, we don't have enough poor people to support in the U.S. so we have to import poor people from third world countries?
The last time I was in Ireland I spent a couple days in Dublin ("the big smoke") and I was riding in a taxi and noticed quite a few Africans hanging around the street corners.
I asked the driver what that was all about and he said; "Well, we ran out of poor people who we could pay to hang around the corners at all hours of the day and night and someone came up with the bright idea that we should import some poor people from Africa, put them on the dole and pay them to hang around the street corners at all hours of the day and night and as you can see it's been a resounding success!"
And people wonder why Ireland is on the verge of bankruptcy?
The U.S. is ***broke*** we can't afford to be bringing in people from foreign countries and them paying for their housing, medical, dental, food stamps, education and a lot of other things because some people in our govt feel "sorry" for them and want to spend our money on them. Then two years later they're out of office and "don't know anything about that!"
I want my govt run like a business! If it had been for the last 25 years we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now.
Sorry but I just don't want my govt giving my money to people 8,000 miles away in some shit-pit of a country.
You know what foreign aid does? It just underwrites failure.

I agree these are dangerous times. I'm very glad the plot was foiled.

Agreed. People trot out that tired old Ben Franklin quote that made sense in Revolutionary times but doesn't really hold much water if you're on Flight 93 or standing in the crowd in Centennial Park in Atlanta in 1996.



Whoops! I hadn't read this far down when I trotted that tired old B Franklin quote. Silly me, wanting to actually live under the Constitution that right-wing extremists want to wipe their feet on.

If we let our fears supercede our rights we deserve what we get, I guess.

I know a lot of Africans that have done more with the opportunity that this country has provided them then all of the popeyes combined.

What great thing has pops done for this country? All I see is a rather unintelligent bitter man that hates his fellow Americans.

Think how strong this nation could be if we could get rid of all of the popeyes.

Not sure how old Ben got attached to my post...and not sure the point in doing it. But just so my comments are clear I am willing to give up some privacy not rights. I will not mind someone putting their hands between my legs or my son, grandson or daughters if it will at least help them be safe on an airplane.

I will not mind a camera recording my actions in a public venue...listening for key words in cell phone...etc.. if it will help make my family safe. To me this is not taking away any of my rights...I am not a crook or terrorists and I pay my taxes.

Now if I am falsely persecuted or my Constitutional rights are ignored because of information gathered by these means it will be a different matter. That has not happened that I know of and we must be vigilant to be sure this does not happen. But using common sense and modern tools to protect ourselves is not against the intent of the Constitution in my view anyway.

Hey popeye, do you ever think about facts before you spout your usual foreign aid/immigration rants?  Have you checked to see exactly what benefits are available to legal immigrants, illegal immigrants, and refugees?

Surely an independent would do so.

So let's get this straight...

The FBI contact a Somalian dimwit and tell him they are building a bomb to kill some infidels. They even take him off to a quiet spot and show him they have the goods by exploding a real bomb in a backpack that they had made earlier. Then they encourage the dimwit to carry what they say is the exact same thing into a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, and tell him that when he presses a button on the cellphone they give him, he will meet 72 virgins and a whole bunch of infidels will meet Satan. But it's been a scam all along?

In next week's issue, how the FBI saved the US from a nuclear bomb by selling fake plutonium to a mad man...

A more sensible way to reply to my post might be to challenge the content. I chose the infowars version because it was witty and amusing, but the same basic information is available in almost every report I have read. Why? Because essentially, the story as described in infowars is correct. This does seem to have been a ludicrously involved entrapment of a dimwit by the FBI.

I don't suppose it matters that the resources spent steering the dimwit to the point where he can be arrested might more usefully have been employed looking out for those terrorists who might be planning operations now without the help of the FBI?
