Especially if you fail to provide employees with the requires protection against being injured on the job. Of course most people would say the targeting was a good thing since it serves to protect the employees from a bad boss.

I thought strippers were 1099 "independent contractors" not employees.

Well, nice chatting with you, but I've got to get this old tail to the costume supply shop. Under the law, we have to provided our own "tools." For me, that's my outfits. Gay guy that runs that shop always has something nice for me.... doesn't charge much either. What's his name again? Oh, yeah, Bob Mackie..... He says he's got some Hollywood clients "who are coming up." Some broad named "Cher." He told me she's looking for some independent contractors. Maybe she could use a back-up dancer. I'll put in a bid. Bye for now!

Lance, I can only speak to what I know here in Florida and specifically in Orange and Seminole Counties. I had several good friends who either managed or were DJ's at several clubs in the area. The girls were required to pay the DJ to work. The attitude was more of looking at it as a vendor renting booth space. They didn't pay they didn't dance. They were paying to work. I would guess there is something missing here. I would suspect that either a shit storm has been started by a girl who was injured or there are other issues and the authorities are looking for anyway they can to close the doors.

Y'know, pahunkboy, google IS your friend. I had trouble believing that "Failure to provide Workmen's Compensation Insurance" was a felony either..... well, google helped me learn that "Failure to provide Workmen's Compensation Insurance" is a class C misdemeanor since it falls under "Consipancy to commit theft." That makes sense - the employer is stealing the worker's <expected and deserved and required> payment of the insurance premium...... When such failure is intentional, kicks the charge up to a class "C" / 3rd degree Felony. Only reason this story made the news is that it's strippers being robbed, not your general office workers.

That sounds akin to how hair stylist and massage therapist conduct business. Not all but seems like a majority do.

This is not the only strip club in the valley here. The other one that I know of seldom has any trouble. Funny thing- we have more X stuff then they do in Harrisburg.
