That's fine. If you want to live in a Police State, that's entirely up to you. Personally, I'd prefer not to be in a position where the state-sponsored thugs in uniform are no better than the people they are supposed to be protecting us from. Yes, there were some trouble makers in amongst the students, but I don't really expect to see their exact opposite numbers squaring up to them in the police lines. When gangs fight each other on our streets, innocents will always be the victims.

The police should be better than the gangs. But they are not. In fact, often they are a damn sight worse.

I don't want a police state - but I don't have an unrealistic expectation of how a demo can turn out in the same way as I know that things can fuck up at a football match or a gig.

You want to live in a dreamy devilmaycare world where you can be devoid of responsibility for your actions then go ahead. Me? I am a bit more grown up about my actions having any number of consequences.

One minute you are questioning the tactics of kettling and the next you are insinuating that the police are disorganised thugs acting as violent individuals.

It can't be both, if the police were getting involved with individual disputes the lines would disintegrate leading to no ability to kettle.

Considering the difference in numbers they were amazingly well organised and did a good job.

Because then you get to live the life you design, rather than the one you get dragged into.

Your expectation seems to be that the police will behave as disgracefully as those misbehaving in amongst the students. Your expectation seems to be that I will just accept that. Your expectation seems to be that not only should I take responsibility for my own actions, but, if I am at a demonstration peacefully protesting, I should also take responsibility for the people who misbehave. Your expectation appears to be that if I get truncheoned, then I should just accept it, because someone had to get hit, and I was there, so why not me?

This isn't a war,you know,'us' against 'them'. This isn't 'Gangs of New York'. The police are there to keep order, not start a ruck with troublemakers and hit out at everyone who isn't in a uniform.

I don't think I said that at all. The police are far from disorganised. They are a gang, the same as any other. They have a strong thuggish element institutionalised within them, and it's been like it for years.

Nope to all what you have just second guessed.
The only thing one should expect is that if you attend a protest or any event, that you are responsible for yourself and don't start whining if shit happens and then blame everyone else, from the thug element to the police. You chose to be there so you deal with any crap that occurs to yourself.

You are what... 44? Do you have any concept of confrontation - peaceful or otherwise?

Your University system risks being the laughing stock of the western world.  The best and the brightest cant even manage/run a school.   A place where one learns how to excel....  talk about egg on the face.

The best and the brightest,  Really?

HA!

You have openly stated that the police were at fault in your opinion.
And if you are peacefully demonstrating and get hit over the head because one police officer may feel threatened by thuggish element of protesters that you are in the middle of, that's not your fault?

You cannot have it different just because ones police and ones demonstrators and call yourself in any way fair and impartial.

The more you say in this thread, the more obvious it becomes that you wouldn't recognise a clue about what you're talking about if it hit you over the head with a lead pipe and stole all of your gold.

Nope. At this point, he's only opening his mouth in order to change feet, it seems.

If this is what you believe, further discussion between us would be a waste of time. We are not even on the same planet.

You are probably correct if you also believe that all police should be tarred with the same brush. I don't dig such obvious biased opinion.

Nice to see the meds are finally kicking in.

PS: If you could try a little research so you didn't look quite such a clown it would do you a lot of good. I doubt it'll happen, but as it stands you really are making yourself look very, very silly.

Still, at least he's doing it on the internet, rather than in public where somebody could hit him.
