A friend and I were talking today about knife play, and I had to admit, I don't know much. Anyone out there with great words of advice? Some standards of practice? Dos and Don'ts? Great fun ideas on what to do?

Asking "what is knifeplay" is about like asking "what is sex"...the answer is a whole lot of things.

Knifeplay can be mindfuckery where the knife is less of an actual tool but used more as a psychological scalpel. I can be sensual where the razor sharp blade is drawn over the skin, a bit more intense where there is light marking, all the way to blood play. Inserting a knife inside a woman is a bit of an art and it can be anything from terrifying to fucking hot.

The downside is playing with a razor sharp knife around, say, some one's neck...carries some risks, many show the razor's edge and perhaps at times flip it around and use the dull backside as part of a mild bit of mindfucking. Say you have a person who has a hard limit around knives, laying one out on your table of instruments but never using it dances on that line.

my Mistress has used a scalpel to carve Her initials in my chest. needs to be re-done a bit make the scar even. also She uses a knife to remove wax after wax play sharp of course, have to hold still. so much to do with a sharp knife even use a TENS unit on a dull one to get the feeling of a cut with out being cut.

Thanks. That's a good start, and yes it was a general question. I'm not sure it's something for my current slave, but it's good to keep sharpening ones skills, no?

Well, I highly doubt that you're "sharpening your skills" (I'm sure that was intended to be a pun) in regards to this. The reason you're not getting a lot of response here or getting the topic explored is because you're not exactly being definitive. What you're thinking of as "knife play" might be completely different as the way that I'm thinking of it, as expressed by My boy above.

Knife play is as varied as the reaction of the person that you're dealing with and what you want to do. Some people get scared as hell. Other people drift into a dreamy state just feeling the metal go across their skin. Others don't really care either way or have it on their hard limit list. That's your biggest do or don't right there. Have some kind of clue about how the person you're dealing with is going to react to that knife. In itself, that's going to lead you in the direction of what you'd like to do.

Along with talking to the person that you're dealing with, My advice to you is to go to your local dungeon and see if you can observe any folks who are participating in this kind of play and talking to them. This past weekend, I did an event which was set up where I was going to be doing an introduction of wax for a number of people. In doing so, I brought the big knife because I knew that one of the gals who was attending the event was really big on knife play and using that knife for the wax removal was going to make her float more than the application of the wax itself.

I have had a taste of real knife play not to long ago. And I completely understand that dreamy state. The sound of the knife as it brushed my skin brought me back to reality.
As I'm being taught, I have been told (As obvious as this is...) "Learn the body.. Feel it.. KNOW it."
That's the only way one can learn what to do to others with any instrument.
I am still very new to this. But experimenting on myself, gives me a good feel of the tool and how to use it without harming myself.
