I'd be careful, or they might tell you what they do with the lamb before it ends on your plate [:D]

You don't have to tell me, I already know.

Q: What do you call a sheep tied to a lamppost in wales?

A: A leisure centre.

LadyConstanze -> RE: When you hide an idiot... (12/17/2010 5:56:47 AM)

English to Welsh: "Bloody sheep shagger"

Welsh: "We fuck them, you eat them!"

Though I think their reputation for having a sexual preference for sheep is wrong. It's kind of hilarious, because I like them (in a non sexual way) and like feeding and petting them, most Welsh are absolutely shocked by it. Other half can't understand why I bought a few sheep from a local farmer and pay the farmer about £100 each year for room and board, and that they can live out their lives happily grazing. Really affectionate animals, they come running when I visit them and beg for treats. Only problem is anybody crossing the field is surrounded by sheep, especially if they carry a bag and they demand food...
Sheila (my first adoption) jumped the dry wall and followed me inside the office (main office is on the border to the green belt), my boss (of Welsh descent) didn't find it funny, he even finds it less funny that his Beagle is regularly beaten up (headbutted) by the sheep. The farmer likes it because in sheep trials nobody is allowed to work their own sheep and so it takes care of the competition, his sheep don't run from dogs but take them head on.

I'd love to see that, LadyC!!

Beagle and sheep

Lamb sees Beagle off

Jeholy witness.

I'd just like to take a moment to remind everyone of HillWilliam's awesome Cuban neighbor's Yogi-ism. It must not be lost on page 5ish. It is a gem that must be polished and shown to the world.

There are no contradictions in my case, moral or otherwise. A conscriptee usually doesn't want to fight, and even less to kill. The true psycho LOOKS for a reason to kill, and finds it, in beautifully legal format, complete with the pretext of "I'm just defending my country!!", by volunteering to join the armed forces.

Isn't that 'Hide' button looking so much more tempting this morning?

[:D]

Ah ok, so military=bad, but Israeli military=good. Got it.

I have to say I do find it odd that you're perfectly sanguine supporting (by holidaying there, thus funding their economy) a state which has a) utilised its military to kill civilians of foreign nations, b) targeted and killed journalists trying to report on possible atrocities in areas it is involved in conflicts in, and c) used its secret police to murder people it considers its enemies on other nations' soils, and yet you get miffed by American citizens verbally supporting their service personnel.

The “Hide” button is not “looking so much more tempting this morning” because you're debating reasonably, without use of bile, but I have to say what respect I had for your position has evaporated with your most recent comments. I believed you were taking a moral stance against something you believed deeply in, but the fact you're prepared to prop up a state that commits such heinous acts of violence, espionage and murder, in the name of a sunny holiday with a few fit chicks thrown in, really does both surprise and disappoint me. Seriously, I'm actually genuinely surprised. Shocked even, now I think about it.

Israel has a right to defend itself, absolutely it does. But many of its actions go far beyond reasonable “defence” parameters, and on occasion venture into state-sponsored terrorism territory. I would have thought that sort of thing would be an anathema to you.

Don't be (deliberately I hope) stupid. By your logic I should stop holidaying in the US. You don't penalise a people for the stupid actions of their government. Most of them didn't ask to be Israeli, but they were.

I only hope when I visit Buenos Aires one day I don't have some idiot holding the Falklands War against me. Did you know, by the way, more Brit vets from that war have ended their own miserable lives, post operations, than were killed by the Argies?

PTSD has it's upsides... [:D]

You and I clearly have hugely differing moral standards. I wouldn't dream of holidaying somewhere I considered morally bankrupt.

But you'll associate with people who are trained to murder. Oh well.

"Kill" is not the same as "murder".

But thanks for putting your "moral" outpourings on the subject into context. I certainly won't be taking them seriously anymore, so in one way you've made yourself look good [;)]

Correct. The former may be immoral, the latter is ALWAYS immoral. When you volunteer to participate in an immoral war, any combat-killing becomes Murder. Doesn't matter if it's state-sanctioned, and therefore legalised, it's still immoral, and therefore Murder.

I'm sure you won't. You haven't struck me as the type to look the harsh truth in the face, and I doubt that'll change for you.

I must say it's colder than a witch’s tits in London today. And the weirdest snow; I got up this morning, made a coffee, looked out the window - nothing.

Did a couple of conf calls for about 2 hours, then at the end of the second one someone said "and didn't that snow come down fast!" and I said "what snow?" to a chorus of laughter. “Blimey, you have been working hard eh? Seen the outside world lately?”.

So I looked out the window, which I hadn't really had my eye on, and as if by magic: snow everywhere [;)]

Though fortunately only a couple of cm, so won’t stop me bringing a basket of goodies by car to my mum later today.

LadyConstanze -> RE: When you hide an idiot... (12/17/2010 7:26:07 AM)

Everything here is frozen over and it's a bit like a skating rink, tons of snow expected tonight though

Yeah we're supposed to get a bucket-load too tonight and tomorrow.

I don't mind it if there's lots, coz I can take the SillyCar out for a play [:D] It's when it's a few flakes and it's just cold for no reason that I get miffed.

LadyConstanze -> RE: When you hide an idiot... (12/17/2010 7:37:37 AM)

But you know what's going to happen, a few snow flakes and the UK comes to a stand still... Have you bought milk and bread? That always amuses me, a bit of snow and everybody buys milk and bread...

Oh please don't ... you've touched upon a topic liable to send me highly ranty ... the way people run around like headless chickens the moment anything even slightly out of the ordinary happens ... we built an empire that spanned the globe, so large that the sun never set upon it ... and now if we can't get hold of a loaf of bread* on a whim we go stark staring spare!

*I mostly make my own, so I'm sorted in the event of trouble [;)]

After reading all the responses so far on this thread, I've come to the conclusion that I must not be reading much of what is posted here in the forums.  I just haven't really seen a lot of bigoted, hateful, self-righteous, or mean people posting.  Either that, or there's only one or two people like that and it just happens that everyone has them blocked....  [:)]

I think you might have something there.  Other than the people who occasionally put up icky pickies, I've only had 2 people on hide for longer than a couple of days - those two are on hide for the long haul.  The third I just put on the other day.

As a side note, I've reached a perfect solution for unwanted guests at my front door.  I just don't answer it.  It's my door and there's no requirement that I open it for anyone just because they knock or ring the bell.  Same goes for the phone.  [;)]

I do the same thing!  I do get frustrated if someone says "HEY call me at such and such a time!" and I do, and they don't answer.  That irritates me mostly because there aren't many hours in the day when we are both actually up.  And I *miss* my friends so very much!

Look at that Treasure... we are thinking alike again.. scary!

Yes to both.  More often than not, I'm led to think that people don't put folks on hide for the inevitable personality clashes , but it's more likely used in the case where certain folks are just plain offensive or bigoted.  In a high majority of cases when people have told Me (either on the boards or through mail on the other side) that they have a person on hide, they won't have been the only person who has said they are using hide for that person.  The example that you mentioned about the picture earlier in the thread, sunny, is the exception, rather than the rule.  Much more common on those folks who get put on hide by others because a) they are an obvious troll or b) their words just demonstrate them to be hateful, bitter, annoying people that multiple people want nothing to do with.

Caller ID is one of the best conveniences of the last century.  I don't answer the phone just because it rings.  Instead, it's because I actually want to talk to the person on the other end.[:D]

Edited because I don't quite make sense before enough caffeine in the morning.

LadyConstanze -> RE: When you hide an idiot... (12/17/2010 7:48:14 AM)

As a foreigner you tend to notice certain things that don't make sense...

I kinda like it when something happens and some real British quirks like "must buy bread and milk" show up, there's a small Waitrose nearby and when I walked madam earlier on, there were countless people shopping like WWIII would break out tomorrow. Their bread is going to be stale...

Another good one is supermarkets and Xmas, I mean the shops are closed for ONE BLOODY DAY, ONE and they all shop like they would be closed for a month. The season of gluttony is upon us...
