Pyramus -> Pixelated bondage handcuffs in Japan (12/19/2010 7:34:00 PM)

I was reading up on handcuffs for BDSM when I found this interesting tidbit on Japanese restraint culture in Wikipedia ...

"In Japan, if someone is photographed or filmed while handcuffed, their hands have to be pixelated if it is used on TV or in the newspapers."

along with

"In Hong Kong, people being arrested and led away in handcuffs are usually given the chance by the policemen to have their heads covered by a black cloth bag."

Just curious if pixelation is common around the world in depictions of D/s play?

1: It's Wikipedia, not the most reliable source in the world. Unsourced reference as well on the Hong Kong statement, with one I can't actually read for the first.

2: Even if true, police and criminal procedures have almost nothing to do with BDSM.

Actually answering the question: Not in my experience, no. If it's actually depicted, and not a pan away in some less-risque-than-it-thinks-it-is film, there's no attempt to hide what's going on.

Those are both cultures in which saving face is very important. I presume this is an attempt to do just that so that if they are found innocent, they will not be humiliated ever after by having pictures of them under arrest circulating.
