Just look at my profile pics and you can see my favorite leather full coverage and my leather waist cincher. The corset is from Alter Ego- on eBAy and very reasonable in price (between $100-200) for good quality. The cincher is from Stormy Leather, another quality maker (friends of ours used to own the company, actually), but a bit pricier.

After moving, I had no idea where to find somewhere to get a custom coset made. Then I did a seach for a locking or bondage corsets and found some I like. Then looking where one of the places was I was thrilled cause it was about 60 miles from my house. She had great reviews, done lots of magnificent work. Seem like a great place and person that I wanted to do business with. Then to my sadness and a great loss to the fetish world, I found out where she had passed away 2 months after my move and close to my age. I feel for all that knew her, and am sure there are many since she was listed for attending many event, and am saddend that I never had a chance. So the seach continues on my end, I hope everyone else has good luck finding the ones they want.

I do think steel boning probably is the best way. The one I had made by someone else in the past just hasn't held up unfortunately and didn't have steel boning. Don't think the stitching was too good either. It gave me a nice snug fit, till one day I sneezed. Amazingly I tore a bunch of stitches. Haven't worn it since.

I have done a LOT of research on this, as the ex was very into corsets.  She was plus size, and finding a good, slimming corset was a challenge.  She had a few from Hot Topic, but those definitely were "just for show".  I tore the lacing clean out of one helping her one time.

Then, lo and behold, I found the answer.  If you get the chance, got to a Renaissance Fair.  Not only are they lots of fun, even if you're not into that kind of thing, but there are many, many interesting vendors.  There were three separate vendors selling REAL corsets, two of which sold nothing but corsets.  They even custom made corsets, you could be sized, try on a few to find the style and design you liked, pick out your fabric (OR leather) choices, and they would have it within a few weeks at the Fair or would ship it.  Steel boning was used in 90% of them, and they would tell you up front if it wasn't steel.  Huge selection of fabrics, suedes, lace, leathers, you name it.  Some even had chain-mail accents.  And having such a large inventory to look through, my (then) wife found several she liked.  Depending on materiel, construction and detail, they ranged from $80 for an "underclothing" basic to several hundred for an intricate piece.

Not only is a Renaissance Fair good for corsets, but at the annual one near Houston there are also several vendors selling quality knives and swords, leather whips, belts, even bondage gear is openly sold there, chainmail, old-fashioned handcuffs and "irons", belly-dancer outfits (think harem slave), all kinds of incredible things.
