Not a problem, happy to help, as always.

Sadly it seems to me like a site issue, but until I've done some more testing I'm not going to say "it's definitely this or that". I'm not a code monkey so I'm not capable of delving into the details, but doubtless someone more techie than I will see this thread and have a look ...

What's odd is it must be fairly recent, because my profile's now got the "bigger spacing" issue, and it was fine before :)

I'm going to dig out my "testbed" laptop in a min and see what it looks like under other versions of various browsers, and it'd be just my luck if it DID turn out to be an IE only issue. But I don't think it is. Yet :)

BTW it does the same thing in the latest version of Chrome, so I suspect it's a site editor or possibly site layout issue.

I'll try FF in the morning.

Im debating on going to the extreme measures I discussed in email in order to make it appear "normal" again.
The easier option would be to just let it go...but eh...I'm not one to give up too easily. A blessing and a curse sometimes.

But once I get into something I have to know for sure.

It's not IE, indeed I don't even think it's browser related.

Hi Everyone

It IS a site issue, nothing to do with whatever browser you use. The problem started when the message editor was upgraded to this new look version a few months ago. I am having the same issues, however I have a work around solution for anyone who has a good (I use that term loosely) word processing program, i.e. MSWord, as opposed to basic Wordpad or similar.

Type your text in MSWord or other Word Processing software and replace all Paragraph Mark characters with Manual Line Break characters

For those who don't know how, here is the detailed MS Word 2003 instructions.

When finished, Turn on Show Formatting - the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl Shift *
Go to Find and Replace - keyboard shortcut is Ctrl H
At the bottom of the Find & Replace box, click on the More button
Click in the Find what box
Click on the Special Button and select Paragraph Mark from the top of the list
Click in the Replace with box
Click on the Special Button and select Manual Line Break
Click on Replace All
Close the Find and Replace box
Copy & Paste your text into the message box on CM & send.

If anyone would like the detailed MSWord 2007 instructions, let me know.

If you always type messages in MSWord first then copy & paste into CM they will always look the same to the other person regardless of whether you send it from the Home page, the persons full profile page or the messages page.

I am also having the issue of apostrophes sometimes showing up as ampersand apos. I've not found the root of this yet because occasionally it doesn't. For now, my only solution for that is to not use them.

It's an issue with their TinyMCE configuration. Hope they have a good Javascript/LAMP developer on their payroll, because TinyMCE has open bug reports all the way back to 2006, and the name 'tiny' is... misleading, in terms of code.

That said, it's a very good piece of open source; but it takes a master to get it working right.

I had all kinds of trouble getting a similar installation to work back in early '09. I finally licked it, but it took a lot of doing.

I find that sometimes spaces are replaced with a non-breaking space, i.e., ampersand nbsp; in my Profile text. It seems to happen when I edit in place.

I only notice it if I look at the HTML source, but it annoys the crap out of me. [:D]

Another alternative suggestion for times when you don't want to open up Word:

Within the TinyMCE editor itself, you can insert a line break rather than one of the more problematic carriage returns by pressing shift-enter (shift-return, on Macs) rather than just enter/return. That should produce more of a WYSIWYG experience than the current configuration does for IE.

Note that you can also use the same key combination within Word to avoid needing to run through the find and replace routine if you'd like.

I truly appreciate the comments/suggestions, and the emails I received 
with the offer to help resolve the profile dilema.

Thank you StrictHarshB and Shallowdeep for the hint's regarding the
line breaks. It was in using those suggestions that I managed to get my
profile text back to it's normal state.

And thank you RapierFugue for holding my hand during the experimental phase.

I hope that others find this thread as helpful with their issue as I have with mine.

Wow thanks, my profile format has bugged me for months so I used the shift and enter and it fixed it all up!!!
