Top Cat------What you are doing is called Cranial Sacral Therapy. Under the skull and by the spine is the crainal sacral nerve. You can damage the spinal cord if you aren't trained properly to do it. That is why you need certification in the USA to practice it. The therapy is only a temporary helper for migraines. Asprin, is not advised for migraines. As it is temporary and can mask other life threatening conditions. Or at least that is what my doctor keeps telling me. What works for me is Toradol and Imitrex. I only take the Imitrex when it is bad in conjunction with the Toradol. Before I was prescribed these things I had tried diet, Cranial Sacral Therapy amoung caffeine and otc meds. None of them would last over the coarse of a weekend. Brain Scans were also done o me to rule out blood clots, MS and seizures. Allergies are one of the most frequent causes of migraines. There even is a diagnostic code for Allergic Migraines which insurance does pay out on. Amazing isn't it. Before you treat a migrain you have to look at the cause. Through years of doctors visits and working for a doctor I did finally get diagnosed. But you have to stop and look so things like blood clots causing a stroke doesn't happen. That can be prevented with a simple scan. Totally non-evasive.

Find out the cause of your migraines BEFORE you medicate them. If you are allergic to birch trees in any way NEVER take Asprin. If you are allergic to mint or peppermint, don't take tylenol. There are things called cross allergins. Some medications are derived from plants. If you are allergic to the plant you shouldn't take the medication and vice versa. Just be smart and see a doctor. I have seen so many doctors treat a symptom, when the treatment for the symptom isn't the same as for the problem and the person gets sicker as the cure for the symptom takes effect. So, find a doctor that is willing to refer you to other specialities. Like Neurologist, Endocrinologist, or Allergist. These are common referals for someone that has migraines.

Also, ask questions, questions and more questions. Any doctor that doesn't want to answer all of your questions doesn't deserve the liscense that they got. Everyone asks for referals from friends. If you need to make complaints. Doctors aren't gods and they make mistakes. That is why we have malpractice insurance. American Medical Associan, State Board of Insurance, Better Bussiness Breau, and the State Attorny can be contacted about bad doctors. Complaints can be made for them hurting you. Not to mention the sue the doctor thing. If you have medical insurance contact the insurance carrier. They can help. That is where I got where to complain from a major medical insurance company. In most of their literature somewhere they have what to do for complaints.

Most doctors these days are not diagnosticians. They are drug prescribers and symptom comforters. They put bandaids on people who needs a treatment or a solution to pain and suffering. Unless you make a pain of yourself, sometimes you will never get the help and relief you need.

sometimes Migraines aren't actually "Migraines".

A few years ago I had headaches with photophobia and noise sensitivity and went to the doctor to see if I had migraines. Painkillers up to Tylenol 3s did nothing to help it. He said that for a 40+ year old man to suddenly start having migraines was exceedingly rare.

He asked me if I was sleeping. At the time I was working 2 jobs and frequent night shifts and at that particular moment I had had 14 hours of sleep in the previous 5 days.
The diagnosis was "cluster headaches" and he sent me home and said to not get out of bed for two days.

I wasnt able to do that, although I did sleep 16 hours that night and the headaches went away.

Im new here and a Newbie but a way I've found to compress what I believe is the Vagus nerve is to lie down with a particular sized book under the base of the skull so that the binding tends to compress that area. You can get an equal pressure situation which will help dispel much of the pain. That area will be sensitive after the headache is gone however and one must be aware of this. This tenderness leaves usually within a day. Finding the right size of book can be difficult however. I found a smaller book on chronic pain which worked perfectly LOL

I have had migraines ever since I was seven, Fortunately, they have subsided from being twice a week to maybe one a year.

The best thing I have found ...believe it or not...is chocolate. I've tried it when I was at work and unable to go home and take a butt load of Tylenol PMs and sleep. It didn't make all of the pain go away, but it definately took the edge off of some of the usual symptoms.

Well, let's see, you could try Massage therapy, even one of those people you see in the mall doing Tiu Na (sp?) a type of accupressure massage.................I have had great success with some peppermint oil applied to the temples and base of the skull, just keep it far from the eyes and provided you don't have an allergy to peppermint.............
and that' s my 2 cents............and as someone else said proper medical evaluation...........even accupunture,..................Wikang
