Okay so yesterday I got my nipples pierced. Let me just say WOW! It hurt, but I am a pain slut!

So my husband wants to know, how long does he have to wait to put weights on them. The guy told me they would heal in 6 weeks, I think that is still too soon. Everyone else has said 1 year.

So how long til we can get full usage out of them?

I had both of my nipples pierced about 5 years ago.  WOW doesn't even come close for me when I remember the pain.  Absolutely took my breath away!
Anyway, you wanted to know how long you'd have to wait before you could put weights on them.  I'm assuming they used at least a 14 gage post/ring when they did it.  I would go with the year time frame.  It takes about six months for them to heal, but hanging weights is a big next step.  Go slowly because if you tear them out, they will be extremely difficult to re-pierce because of the scar tissue.  Totally impossible if they heal the wrong way.

poe,

I had my nipples pierced last October. Yes it did hurt and I have a high tolorence for pain also, especially in my nipple area.
The woman who pierced them is also in the lifestyle so I knew she would answer my questions honestly.
She said it would take 4 months for them to be healed enough for me to even want them to be touched-this was so true. It would be 6 months before I would be able to change the barbells-again this happened and I just was able to change them this weekend. As for weights she suggested waiting 9 months to a full year. She did say that every person's healing time was different and I would know when I was ready.
The reason given for the long weight period was due to the holes stretching out of shape.
Hopes this helps you.
I do know that being the impatient sort I will keep testing them!! LOL!
Good luck to you with your new piercings.

Well the piercer also mentioned that he had problems for a year with his 14 gauge barbells, til he stretched them to a 10.

Anyone gone that big or bigger?

I am not the type to have patience.

I once sprained my ankle and then tore a legiment in my knee and told them "wrap me up and put me back in the game!"

So I will be testing them regularly!

Thanks,

~poe

Six weeks is a pipe dream.  Six months would be a more realistic figure, and that is on the optimistic side.  A year is not uncommon.

Testing them regularly could make it much longer than a year and cause considerably more scar tissue to develop and also increase the risk of migration.

A year is a more realistic date and then you may have some tenderness that feels almost irritating whenever someone gets a tad to rambunctious.
Gradually stretching them by having your piercier use a taper and inserting graduated sizes would be best if you plan on using weights. Be really careful about trying any suspension play, especially if you are a frequent rider on the endorphin train. Pulling them out or tearing the tissue will just compound your problems and extend the healing period.

I have quite a few friends who've had them done, and they all said between 6-18 months.

It's something I researched quite a bit awhile back, calling piercing places and even planned parenthood (wanted to know about possible complications concerning breastfeeding). In the end, decided not too, but I still think on it wistfully now and then.

I had mine done a few years ago, and after 2 years of daily pain, bleeding, scabbing, etc...they STILL never healed, so I had to take mine out.  I was very sad, but apparently my anatomy was not the type for nipple piercing.  I do love my labia and clitoral hood piercings though (thank goodness those healed!!!)  Good luck with your healing...it will be long, but worth it if yours finally do heal properly.  :)

Congrats...I had mine pierced in December and waited two monthes before I changed the barbells...I change them about once a week (I just like having clean disinfected barbells in the holes)...My piercer informed me that it would take 8-12 months for them to heal completely .  I used what the piercer recommended to clean them in addition to Dial antibacterial liquid soap (your boobs are the last place you want to have a bacterial infection!)...now I use the Dial when I shower and use rubbing alcohol for my second cleaning of the day...Lubriderm helps on the dry skin.

My ring seems to have healed faster than most. I used a sterile salt water spray several times a day. No personal experience with the weights, though.

Congrats on your piercings.

Hello There,
I got my nipple pierced last year. The piercing itself actually was not too painful for me. .
The guy who pierced mine said I'd have to wait 2 months and move to a thicker guage, then wait two months and move to a thicker guage again before he felt I would not run the risk of the wieght ripping my nipple off.

As it worked out in the end I couldn't keep it in though. It would not heal enough to move up to the next guage due to a metal allergy. After eight months of no playing with it & it leaking puss and slight bleeding I finally gave up.

Good luck & have fun with your new toys,
Suzanne

Having worked in a tattoo and piercing studio, the truth I've consistently heard, witnessed, and experienced first hand is....Some nipples piercings never heal completely.  Full usage?  Maybe never...

The guy told you they'd heal in 6 weeks?  Keep dreaming.  The outsides of the holes, maybe.  Through and through healed?  No way, unless you're a super-fast healer, or have really thin, small nipples.

Weights?  I wouldn't even dream of it, unless you were initially pierced with a 10 gauge or larger.  I've consistently seen what's called, "the cheese cutter effect", in people who've attempted to put too much weight on too small of a surface area, such as a 14 gauge.  This causes tissue damage, ripping, migration, and scarring.  Not to mention starting you back at square one on your healing, if any of those occur.  If you weren't initially pierced with a 10 guage or bigger, I'd definitely stretch up to at least a 10 before attempting weights.  Stretching could take months in itself.  Good luck.

As always, YMMV.

as an addition to my erlier, there are some with smaller nipples that while it heals faster, i dont know as id be comfortable with adding weights to them, given the more or less needed guage of jewelry to do weights to the relitively small area.. its iffy in my book. but its as i said before not something i do so im not totaly sure of it personaly... and moviing up to larger peices takes a good bit of time as well, doing it to quickly and you cause dammage.. that i know from experence, i was a little to entusiastic a few times in enlarging  other peircings, and it took them far longer to heal as they should for it..  when i had my toung done i tried, and actuly succeded in moving it up 2 guages at once, hurt though. same with ears when i did them to quickly.. take your time with stretching its worth it..
