Status: offline 		I know a couple of people who say they do, never tried them, but again, I'm a very light smoker, I keep it at 3 to 5 a day and if I don't smell fresh smoke or freshly brewed coffee, I don't have much desire to smoke myself...

Status: offline 		Well, I'm going to share my experience with the e cigarettes. I am very happy! I wish I had found them long ago. I tried to stop smoking but my blood pressure would spike and that was more dangerous for me than smoking. I couldn't use patches because of allergy and couldn't use the gum. I felt frustrated and stuck, hated that I smoked, hated the stink and on and on.

When I first heard of them, I didn't give it much thought because I couldn't see how they could work. Now, I have a whole different way of looking at it all.

I did a little research and decided that the e cig that got the best reviews and had the best offer and pricing was The SafeCig. They had different levels of nicotine and both regular and menthol. I am a freak on menthol and smoke one of the strongest cigs out there. I am picky about the taste as well. I ordered the strongest menthol and nicotine filters thinking I could go to a lower one as I get through this.

First night I got them, I thought, wow... not bad... this is kind of cool. The taste was more a minty type taste than menthol, but I could handle it and not gag. It was rather strong and I really should have gotten the smaller nicotine dose, but in all, I just had to learn how to hit on it. It is like a cig, one hitter... for those you you know what those are. lol It is heavier than a cig and with some experiementing with it, you can figure out how to hit on it and get the level you want and how often you want it. The first night I needed to still smoke a regular cig, but was okay with that.

Each filter is like a pack of cigs and with shipping, if you have shipping costs, they cost about the same as a cig. I got basically a carton. lol The smoke that it has is a mist and basically I was worried about that because of some problems I have, but it actually didn't bother me at all. The second day I smoked maybe 5 or 6 regular cigs, but only because it was a real stressful day. I used the e cig for the first night, the second day and am on my third day with the same filter... so my smoking or nicotine intake has been far less than it would have been.

I still feel the need for a regular cig at different times of the day because there is a difference and getting used to it, I think is a transition. I am doing very well with it and recommend anyone to try this out!

What is so very cool and I had a good laugh about it, is that you get a plug and a usb plug and that is the most important part. You can charge your cig with a computer! I find that so funny! But you can use the wall and that's what I have done. You plug the usb plug into the wall plug, screw in the battery, which is the cig part and not the filter and just let it charge for about an hour. You can unscrew the filter to save on battery between uses. Each battery is good for 2-6 hours depending on how much you smoke it and whether you unscrew it or not. I would recommend getting the case that you can carry it in.

I am very happy with my e cig and the results and look forward to being a non smoker as soon as I can be. If not... the smokeless e cig, will do far less harm to me. There is no tar or smoke, so I think no matter what, I will smell nicer, my blood pressure won't spike and put me in danger and I can calmly get through my one addiction and stopping it.

Status: offline 		Lockit, I want to thank you for your contribution to this thread.  I am very seriously thinking about this now and may want to discuss the cost factor, etc with MP and see what options are available.  One of My concerns is some of the stories that I've heard from folks about disruption of sleep patterns, which could potentially be My undoing.

Status: offline 		LadyPact, I have serious sleep issues, so I know what you mean. I am not sure what would cause a sleep disturbance unless one e cig maker is adding chemicals which I have heard of in my research. I can say that with the safecig, I have had no problems, and a sleep disturbance would be a problem!

I bought the starter kit. That is one battery and both plugs. Then I orders two of the filter packages, which is five in each. A carton of cigs. The battery and both plugs have a lifetime guarantee. The SafeCig doesn't have postage expenses and my total was $88. I got the case from elsewhere, where I had a gift cert. from Christmas.

If you do get this... I wish you well in it... I have had no problems and I am prone to them. lol

Status: offline 		I've thought about trying these, but my concern is the cost.  The 7-11 nearby sells one for $20 (I haven't looked into what that includes) which seems cheap enough to be sceptical about its quality.  The tabacco shop down the road sells them for about $100 for a starter kit.  There doesn't seem to be anything in between, so I'm not sure which direction to go.

Status: offline 		My brother has tried this.So far,it seems to work for him.I am thinking about giving this stuff a try too.The Gum has so far been the most helpful.However,theres also the mental effect of cigarettes.Always getting used to moving my hands alot.Thats where I think this e-cigarette could help.Ive even seen the commericals where they are giving this stuff out for free.I mean,cant get any simplier than that.Although,Ive heard there are different types.Cant hurt trying it at out least.

There is one giving the starter kit for free... but you guessed it, it comes with a contract. This is why I went with the safecig. $88. for the kit and basically a carton of cigs (2 packs of five filters, one for each day) So far I have smoked regular cigs rarely and a filter is lasting me 2-3 days. For me at least, it is a start up cost, but it is actually saving me money over the cheaper brand of regular cigs, which was three cartons a month. Figure I am smoking half a pack on the filter a day, at the most Or a carton worth of filters is getting me through the month, with about half to one carton of reg cigs for a month. (Based on current use.) That means 1 to 1 1/2 cartons of reg cigs I am not smoking. (Heck, the one carton I am not smoking for this month would have almost cost the price of the starter kit if I smoked a name brand.)

I think it really balances out. Each day I feel better and do better and I am saving money and could live healthier and longer. I'm okay with those benefits. lol

Status: offline 		the e-cigs do work in that they give the user a dose of nicotine without the act of smoking while supporting the tactile patterns of smoking. these have been found to be an excelent method of transitiong to quiting. for those that have been smooking for a long time the change from cig to e-cig helps break the psycoligical pattern of smoking. the chemical addiction in the body the best on the market is the cyban. it activly competes with the nicotine in the body for receptors( it kicks the nicotine off) and after only a few days the body no longer has the craving for the nicotine. of course it will always be better with some sort of support family freinds or other.

Status: offline 		I love them. Had me down to 2 cigs/day in about a week. Then all hell broke loose. Going to try it again very very soon. I do believe that they may actually be the solution. Also, they're a damn sight cheaper than regular cigs (after the initial investment).

EDIT: To add...
The ones from the 7-11 are some of the better ones I've found, and going by price, easily some of the best on the market. I highly recommend them.

They're excellent for, as you say, those places (pubs, clubs, aircraft, etc) where you can't otherwise smoke.

Not a patch on the real thing, but a very good substitute, and light years ahead of inhalers or patches.

Status: offline 		New York state is actually debating on whether they want to ban e-cigarettes or not.This is one thing I have always hated about New York State government.They do use too much government into peoples personal lives.New York would be the first state in the nation to ban e-cigarettes.Why?I do not understand that logic.If e-cigerettes are helping people quit cigarettes,isnt that a good thing?I mean,e-cigarettes are clearly alot safer than real cigarettes.I would think New York would want people to quit cigarettes.New York state also has the highest cigarette tax in the nation too.I can not see the logic in banning e-cigarette.Unless the FDA finds some reason why it should be banned,I see no reason.

Second, I live in New York State. Every freakin' time you turn around, they always want to either ban something personal or tax it to death. They wanna ban e cigs, but not tobacco based ones. Well, whaddaya expect from a state whose former governor patronized prostitutes and the current one just feels up his staff members in a broom closet?

I am currently smoking the Blu e-cigs. I personally find the strongest nicotine level too light for my tastes, so I'm going to give the SafeCig a try. I felt loads better smoking these as no one complains about the smell and I can pretty much smoke them almost everywhere (although a cop stopped me once because he thought it was a bong. Go figure!)

You could be using a stronger dose of nicotene. This may be bothering your sleep. I have quit and started smoking many times. When I quit I sleep like a long. When I resume smoking I always smoke alot when I have cigarettes  around. I always have trouble sleeping when I smoke excessively.

Status: offline 		Someone who used them to quit a year ago donated them to my program for one of my clients to use. The first time I let him do it in my office. After seeing the vapor I was really concerned (for myself as I am really allergic to real smoke), but I couldn't really smell this and it didn't bother my eyes or sinuses at all. He now has a special area to use it and we allow it several times a day. He seemed amazed that he felt so much calmer after using it. Obviously the nicotine works. He is using the Smoking Everywhere brand, but the cartridges are various types, including flavored ones.

As someone who watched my mom struggle for over 40 years to quit and eventually give in over and over before finally dying from COPD and emphysema, I think this would have been something amazing for someone who's health is in the balance from smoking.
