It's not super cold so I am always slip ons of some sort I also don't care much for socks.

I love to run around with bar feet, I avoid socks as much as possible. I might even wear sandals in mid-winter, if it is only a short errand.
I shoveled snow last week in sandals. [:D]

here annoyingly it is uncomfortable cold at times...in my new flat...whilst I would still not be a fan about bare foot I had 3 occassions where I had to heat up a head pad to get feelings back in 3 of my toes despite that I was wearing socks....also yesterday I was shivering in my lounge despite being underneath a blanket...as much as I like my new flat, the heating here is useless [&o]

I like to walk barefoot no matter what the weather.

Oh my god yes! I have the polar opposite of a foot fetish, HATE feet... and even moreso, can't stand anything touching my feet. I only wear socks and shoes when I absolutely have to (like, at work). Otherwise, never! First thing when I get home, shoes and socks come OFF. Can't even sleep without my feet dangling off the bed, and god forbid there be covers touching them.

ooohhh...don't get me wrong..I LOVE shoes...heels, boots, cute little sandals....but I like walking barefoot in the rain, find it fun to walk on hot asphalt in the summer and it can wake you up to run outside barefoot in the snow to take out the garbage....

but hell...I'm a girl. I could get lost in shoe stores lol.

edited: that just reminded me of another one of my quirks...I can spend an entire day in a used bookstore. I've been known to go to one in the morning and not leave until hours upon hours later. I almost always end up making friends with the owners to the point they call me when they haven't seen me for awhile

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: What are some odd little quirks about yourself? (1/13/2011 9:25:17 PM)

I am a compulsive reader & I must read myself to sleep every night. Therefore, I require a backlog of unread books. When I get down to about 20 or so unread books, I begin to panic & rush out to buy more.

If I had all the money I ever needed, I would spend it on dishes, flatware & glassware. And I would have to build a room for all the linens I would own. I love sheets & towels & blankets & comforters & duvets. I need to use dishrags in the kitchen & they have to be blindingly white. As soon as there is a stain on one, it goes into the rag bin.

I have always been an insomniac, so I have rituals to help me get to sleep. I must have covers at least over my left shoulder or I can't fall asleep. And if I don't read, I will lie there with my eyes closed for hours not sleeping.

I have over 3 dozen pairs of socks. And I do my laundry as soon as there is one load. So I really don't need that many pairs of socks. But I might want to wear a pair with stars one day & polka dots another. So they must be there. I have very few clothes.

There are a lot more I know. I've always known I was odd. Thank God I had a father who taught me to embrace my difference! [:)]

Ok... in reality, I'm dreadfully forgetful. I have all kinds of little tricks I use to cover it up or to help me overcome / manage it, but there it is. I think it's got to do with my sleep patterns more than anything. (And that's my story, and I'm sticking to it)

I lie in bed in the morning and go through my list of things to do / not forget so that when I get up, I have a number of things in my head already - and I use mnemonic devices to remember them. Today's was a BEE - bank, email, eggs... I needed to take my bank acct info to someone, I needed to email a web link to a friend, and some folks I know were having a potluck, and I wanted to take a Korean egg dish to it. I just imagined dancing around my place dressed like a bumble bee.

I must be around art. If I'm not, a part of my soul withers. I speak 4 languages enough to get by - one of them fluently. I'm dreadful in all of them in regards to grammar (except English where I'm a grammar goddess).

I love collecting beautiful things for the wall - mostly textiles. I have woven blankets, hand made belts, traditional dresses from various places in the world, and even tablecloths for the wall. I know I'm unhappy when I take my stuff down from the wall.

I have a cup that is just for coffee. I have a cup just for tea. Exact same cup only different colors. When I buy cups or bowls, they have to feel right in my hand, or I don't get them.

I'm fascinated by the different ways people make toilets. (I know, it's weird)... but seriously one of our most basic functions, and people all over the world have found different methods to manage it. I think it's interesting.

I'm a dreadful artist, but I'm really good at conceptual designs. I can (and do) design clothes, shoes, etc. I then take my crazy idea to someone who makes it real. I like to combine poetry and art and have been known to make art pieces by combining visual arts by someone else with poetry (also of someone else) to come up with something uniquely mine.

I keep scrapbooks - the most amazingly quirky scrapbooks you've ever seen. I love them. They are some of my most prized possessions.

I don't like the word "ass" - to call someone as an insult. It kind of squicks me. But I can swear like a sailor beyond that. (And I do)... "fucking asshole" seems to be okay.

Oh, and I'm really forgetful.

best,
sunshine

Phoenixpower -> RE: What are some odd little quirks about yourself? (1/14/2011 9:22:17 AM)

I sometimes have items a few times when only once would be necessary...and I never planned it that way, it just...happens...

so I have 5 laptops and a desktop (4 laptops now as one was binned after the screen cracked) and it wasn't planned, nor was it ever my intention...but during uni stress when they gave up I needed a new one FAST to contnue my course work, so I just bought the next one...

I also have 4 routers...because when I went home in 2008 I liked the wireless internet access at home...so I bought one....which did not work....[8|] then I bought another one, considering that the first one could have gotten damaged when it slipped out of my hands after picking it up from the post office...which I then didn't get installed either....[8|] then my main router stopped working and I got a new one from BT which also enabled me to go wirelss online...made it to three...and now I have different supplier than BT, makes it four...

In my previous flat I had 2 fridge freezers...as one was provided from landlord...

and I have 3 printers, too...as my printer stopped working I bought another one...which then I did not manage to install (neither with supplied CD Rom nor with online software from them)....so I needed another one again (and couldnt be bothered to drag the other one back to the store)...which then did not work either....by which time I decided to look for other causes as I had no desire to buy another printer....and realised that the problem was that the USB cable was broken [8|][>:]

edited as I forgot:

Until recently I also had 2 bread baker maschines....as it appeared that mine was broken...so I bought another one but my bread mixture packages stll didnt work....which made me realise that those baking mixtures were out of date and therefore didn't rise anymore [8|] But one of those is now rehomed with a friend [:)]

and I don't even go into it why I have 5 cats [:D]

twistedwillow -> RE: What are some odd little quirks about yourself? (1/14/2011 9:39:56 AM)

I have to be bare foot, shoes are the last thing to go on, and first thing to come off, and usually at work they are off as well.
Love the feel and smell of brand new, fresh from the packet sheets and doona covers. I will buy a doona cover and kind of hoard it for a few weeks or a month, drawing out the anticipation until i get my fix.
If I go our for dinner, and I like what I have eaten I go home and attempt ( usually rather well) to recreate it.
I need books, I go into withdrawals if I do not read every day. And I hoard them too, still have books from my childhood that I read.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: What are some odd little quirks about yourself? (1/14/2011 12:04:58 PM)

I like to pick books by their smell. It makes me sad that printed books are becoming obsolete. The smell of the paper as it ages & decays is a wonderful comforting smell to me.

I have a 14-year-old boy inside of me who often picks my movies. When I watched Jackass, the Movie I thought I would die from laughing.

Valyraen -> RE: What are some odd little quirks about yourself? (1/14/2011 12:19:10 PM)

I'm not usually neurotic about things being clean, but if my silverware has any discoloration or anything on it, I absolutely won't eat with it. It's to the point that I'll keep the package of pasta around just to keep the spoon on, even if I JUST cleaned the counter.

I like day old cold pizza that's been sitting out in the box all night better than when it's fresh and hot, but my breadsticks have got to still be hot.

If any of the kitchen cookware has a patina of burned-on food, I'll scrub at it for hours to get it clean.

Also, I like to pick stuff. Scabs, peeling skin, eye crusties, my cuticles, whatever. It just gives me a very fulfilling feeling to pick stuff away.

Phoenixpower -> RE: What are some odd little quirks about yourself? (1/14/2011 12:42:16 PM)

I developed the new habbit to throw away dishes and cuttlery at times when I get too lazy to wash it up [&o]

Recently I did it due to my sink being in need of repair and I am uable to afford that right now and have no desire to drag all my stuff into the bathroom to wash it there...and considering I get a 24 piece set of cuttlery for 3 bucks I consider just being able to still afford that...

also back home I used to drink chocolate milk on a daily basis....I learned that when I drink juice at first that then i don't need to wash my glass before drinking chocolate milk from it...and so safes me the time to do so, whereas the other way around I would not do it....

What are some odd little quirks about yourself?

One of mine is that I hate to see my writing in that scroll thingy...because it somehow startles me.

I have thousands of books.  I keep skinnying some down but I love so many that I need a room with floor to ceiling book cases with one of those rolling ladders attached.  (If I ever win the lottery...  Mmm, also with a card catalogue, a dehumidifier, and a rocking chair that somehow repelled cats.)  I have several tubs of books I bought for my son when he was little and that I must have read to him umpteen thousands of times and just cannot part with, a huge mass of recipe books, an entire book case of Star Trek books...

Ditto for DVDs and VHS movies.  I refused to pay cable or dish or whatever and chose to take that money each month to buy what I want...and I've been at this for over 21 years.  I could probably fill 40 crates with all my movies, lol, and the most recent thing I have been buying is seasons of old tv shows I liked.  My son goes nuts over them and we have a great time together watching MASH, Welcome Back Kotter, I Dream of Jeannie, Buck Rodgers...  I also like buying the entire set of series, and have all of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Star Trek TNG, Buck Roders, and several others.  Sets I don't think I have all of are...The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, Quincy, MaGuyver (sp?), Remington Steele...and there my memory runs out.  I buy from Sams, Walmart, flea markets and pawn shops.  I wish I could find the old Battlestar Galactica and Doogie Howzer MD and some of the sci fi stuff I used to watch, I'm keeping a sharp eye out.  Anyway, I am spoiled rotten now, watching what I want to watch, when I want to watch it...and not having to listen to commercials. [;)]

I knit hats and donate them to the local oncologist's office.  Each one is fluffy in some way (eyelash yarn, etc.) and takes a good 4 hours to knit while I am listening to a show on tv.  Some people go to church and leave offerings, I don't...but I find other ways to tithe.  This is one of them.

I donate to nursing homes, through the activities director.  You guessed it, hundreds of movies...but also craft items and boxes of gummis or boxes of candy bars from Sams.  I've been snowed in since the last time I went shopping and got some craft items for something like 75% off...glitter, pipe cleaners, glitter glue, and I cannot remember what else.  I also have foam pads in a rainbow of colors from the Dollar Tree, pony beads, 64 count boxes of crayons, large print playing cards, books, some clothes, perfumes, lotions, nail polish, makeup...  It's part of the tithe I do.

Pokemon!!!  I am a gamer who is seriously into Pokemon.  I have Pikachu electric toothbrushes, Pikachu house slippers, Pokemon sox, some Pokemon dresses (made those), a Pokemon hat (I made that too), Pokemon towels, a Pokemon sheet/comforter/curtains set packed away, I sewed over my game bag with Pokemon fabric, my 3 DS machines have Pokemon stickers, a Pokemon sountrack, old Pokemon crayons and felt tip pens and notebooks, 60-80 well played decks of CCG cards, Pokemon marbles, Pokemon coins, Pikachu keychain, Pokemon styluses, a Pokemon Game Cube, and numerous redundant Pokemon games for Game Cube, the WII, GBA and DS.  I also have Pokemon Monopoly, and other Pokemon games, lol.  I use WIFI to trade Pokemon with people all over the world.  My son and I have been into Pokemon for over 15 years.  (Yes, I am planning a Pikachu parasol, a quilt, another dress, and maybe a coat.  We do preorder our games and then wait in line until midnight, to be one of the first people in the USA to get ours, lol.)

I love to have chocolate cake with hot fudge and chocolate icecream.  My family calls it death by chocolate or a chocolate overdose...but when it is MY birthday...pfft.

I cannot eat Chinese food with a fork...I have to have my chopsticks.  If my favorite Chinese food buffet is out of chopsticks, I walk back out the door.

Another quirk...is that I get panic attacks.  Years of shrinks and meds won't get rid of them, so I deal with them as best I can.  Usually by avoiding triggers.  If I walk into an elevator and a man's cologne is going to set me off, I turn back around and leave.  I have also checked with guys I am meeting up with about what cologne they wear, and do a sniff test at Walmart.  If it's one with bad memories attached, we discuss them wearing an alternate scent.

I cannot stand to see a hungry animal and not feed it.  I used to keep a bag of puppy kibble and kitten chow in the trunk of my car, in case I saw some poor starveling.  I had to stop donating cat food to the local animal shelter because the temptation to adopt was too severe.  On the other hand, that's how I got Griz, my huge black cat who had bitten everyone even through thick leather gloves.  He was scared and hated the whole world, and could fight like a Klingon...so I adopted him...and "ruined him".  My friend is disgusted, saying I turned a grizzley bear into a sugar bear. [:D]  Griz is my lap cat, leaving big puddles of drool all over me when I pet him or whenever he's in an especially adoring mood.  At over 16 lbs of muscle and bones, my cat-and-a-half sometimes gives my legs pins and needles, or muscle cramps, if he has been sitting on them for too many movies or tv shows.

I collect seed packets.  Especially when they go on sale for something like five or ten for a dollar, lol.  Yes, I have hundreds, probably over a thousand packets in a plastic tub with a snap on lid.

Along my bathtub, I have half a dozen shampoos.  My favorite is a VO5 blueberries and cream, but they discontinued that fragrance and I cannot find it anywhere.  Each shampoo has a different scent...I am fond of fruit smells and flowers like magnolia and jasmine.  I really miss the smell of one brand from years ago...it was called Body on Tap.

Sometimes I make a bubble bath and put drops of food coloring onto the bubbles, then mix it around until my bubbles are blue...or purple...or pink.

Yup, we have exposed concrete floors, and even when I am not walking on the concrete directly, just sitting in a chair, with feet by the floor it makes my legs and freet absolutely ICE cold, and a electric blanket is essential in warming them back up.

When there's craft pattern sales, for  like 10 for 5 bucks or something I am compelled to go get them, and sometimes will plot and plann for weeks which patterns I want. And then I never end up using them.

Hillwilliam -> RE: What are some odd little quirks about yourself? (1/14/2011 8:43:48 PM)

I've been waist deep in water catching alligators. I've handled as many as 6 poisonoous snakes at a time. I have been in the water with sharks. I have jumped out of perfectly good airplanes because it was fun. I once hiked out of the everglades at night totally alone navigating thru knee to neck deep water navigating by the stars to get an airboat because a track full of clients broke down. I have fished alone and camped under the stars in grizzly country. I have faced fellow humans down with knives and guns.

I HATE fuckin' spiders

Also, I cannot even look at a mushroom or have one touch any food on my plate. If I order dinner in a restaurant and I say no mushrooms and I see even one, I flip out.

Same thing with raisins.

Totally weird.

Where does that come from then? Were you savaged by a gang of delinquent raisins as a kid, while a bunch of mushrooms stood around laughing? :)

LOL Actually, I have a very good reason I am afraid of them, but it is too weird to post publically.

Suffice it to say at least I am only afraid of mushrooms but not THINGS that look like them, wink, wink....[:D]

promises, promises...

girlygurl -> RE: What are some odd little quirks about yourself? (1/14/2011 10:50:11 PM)

I can't leave a half torn piece of toilet paper on the roll. ONLY full squares hanging in my bathroom [8D] *to the Sienfeld fans, NO, I do not have a square to spare*

Something that's actually bothersome, and frankly some kind of freakishness.... If I have an itch on my right arm I have to also scratch my left arm. That goes for any part of my body. Arms, legs, sides of my face, nose... yep, if I have an itch on the right nostril, you'll catch me scratching my left nostril cause that's just what I have to do. [&:]

If I'm walking around in my socks and step in something wet, I will stop dead in my tracks and rip off my socks! Can not stand wet socks!

Seriously, I'm finding I have several quirks and must stop typing cause I'm starting to roll my eyes at myself [:-]

Oh, last one, if I'm out at a store that sells candles and I stop to smell one.... I will then have to smell all the other scented candles. Seriously, it does get a bit tiresome being me.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: What are some odd little quirks about yourself? (1/14/2011 10:58:08 PM)

i looooove office supplies ^_^ and i hate for my food to touch. there are some foods that can touch, but for the most part, they should be as far apart as possible.
