i'm another person who gets sad during PMS - i might get snippy because i want to be alone to wallow in my sadness, but ultimately the core of it is sadness.
my late M talked to me A LOT about a lot of things all the time, and PMS time was no different. we had a really emotionally solid relationship, so if i was feeling "off," we'd talk about that, and he'd come up with ways to help me get back to normal. since i felt good about serving him, sometimes "leash yanks" helped me get my mind back in the game. =p doing something that makes you feel good can sometimes help turn things around.

I look forward to many more replies.. I never thought it could "interfere" with a D/s , but now, it gives me another door to open (gonna have to write on my calendar when things happen if I have a slight chance to figure out the link between the two).

"Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" by Dr. Christiane Northrup

The Menstrual Cycle

...There is an intimate relationship between a woman's psyche and her ovarian function throughout the menstrual cycle. Before we ovulate we are outgoing and upbeat, while ovulating we are very receptive to others, and after ovulation (premenstrually) we are more inward and reflective...

[Psychological and physiological study done by Drs. Benedek and Rubenstein]

...They found that before ovulation, when estrogen levels were at their highest, women's behaviors and emotions were directed toward the outer world. During ovulation, however, women were more relaxed and content and quite receptive to being cared for and loved by other. During the postovulatory and premenstrual phase, when progesterone is at its highest, women were more likely to be focused on themselves and more involved in inward-directed activity.

Interestingly, in women who had periods but did not ovulate, the authors saw similar cycles of emotion and behavior, except that around the time when ovulation should have occurred, these women missed not only ovulation but the accompanying emotions; that is, they were not relaxed, content, or receptive to being cared for by others."

*******

Premenstrually, I am much more inclined to do things of a spiritual or self-improvement nature. It's when I ponder moving back to Massachusetts, changing my job, and things of that nature. The chapter has a lot more to say about this.

I generally love to bake for people, and made myself the official birthday baker at work. Today, I'm seconds away from getting my period, and was totally not in the mood for baking this morning, but forced myself to do it. So I didn't let being premenstrual change my actions. I recognized where my negative feelings were coming from, honored them, and carried on. I did decline a dinner invitation, however, preferring to spend time with WBWW.

I really appreciate the way this book (which I first read in 1999 while struggling with a serious illness) gave me an additional way to look at things. Many libraries carry it and you can often catch Dr. Northrup on PBS during fund drives.

Nah, not just 'inward directed' but male.
We're most male and least fluffy just before our periods.
And they're missing a couple of very important puzzle piece: testosterone and LIBIDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While my sex drive is highest just at the end of my period and to ovulation, my temper becomes very male in the last week before my period; entitled, righteous, short-tempered, more aggressive, less tolerant of delays or crap in general, less empathetic to those not of my clan; you know, alpha-male.
And the wonderful thing about strap-ons: every night, 28/28, is a great night for great sex!

The mistake some women make is feeling guilty and apologetic about feeling male, and over-compensating once the fluffy nurturing hormones swing back up. Don't get sad, get mad, and direct it towards the parts of your life you want to change [i.e., not the dumbass clerk who can't make change from a $20 without a calculator] but decide to put up with once the fluffiness returns.

Wow that was a powerful excerpt kalikshama thank you very much. I am headed to the library first thing in the morning.

To everyone else... thank you. I must say that we work our way through the cycles and he is so wonderful through them all but I just don't like that feeling that I am letting people down and even questioning my role in all of this. I couldn't walk away; I wondered if I should stay.

Sorry if you opened this looking for some odd contraption resembling a bicycle made of submissives ... though that would be cool.

My period started a few days ago, and with it, a renewed interest in male companionship. Not having any new prospects on the horizon, I mentally flipped through my little black book to see if I'd been too hasty. I contacted a few who had withered on the vine and found:

- HNG is still a HNG
- Easily Offended Guy is still offended
- Didn't Make me a Priority Guy still has me as an option, way, way, way down his list.

So much for that.

I'm considering a geographic cure. I hear the odds are good in CO but will probably pick MA, as that's where my family is.
