ORIGINAL: MasterGovna LPslittleclip, has given good advice, but as a EMT i must suggest that you refrain from such acts for awhile. a broken hip can cause more problems depending on the severity off the break. and as for the pain factor. a broken hip and pelvis are almost the two most painful things to break. I'm making an assumption about the OP here--the diaper is not for play but for incontinence... yes? Frail adults, particularly those with hip fractures, often do wear adult diapers (most wore them prior to the injury) and many require them after the injury because transferring the patient to a toilet or bedpan can be impossible at worst--extremely challenging at best. First--check with your rehab therapist--there are a number of different adult diapers out there, and they may be able to recommend one that is easier to remove/change as most now have side openings with velcro. This allows you to open from the unaffected side, and the diaper can be gently slid out towards the knees, however if the diaper is full, it will pose some additional challenges for you. Your ortho and/or physical therapist can show you some tricks to diaper changes on these patients that minimize any movement to the pelvic region. If the diaper changes are extremely difficult or cuase significant movement/pain, your physician may want to consider other options. OR...if you are asking for play purposes only, I would refrain from any unnecessary contact until the patient has completely healed.
