Jinger -> Burning Desire (1/17/2011 5:13:09 PM)

Hello forum!

I can't tell you how many times I have been given good advice from this forum in the past, but this time
I am not looking for advice; I want experience.

I have no interest in theorizing.

Please let me know if you have ever dealt with what I am about to describe, and what you did about it:

My beloved and I really enjoy sex. We have always had sex on a pretty regular basis, but lately there has been an issue.
I have found that it sometimes becomes necessary for me to pull out during sex (or quickly after) because of a burning sensation at
the base of my penis/around the balls (we use condoms).

A quick rinse nullifies the feeling. My girlfriend thinks that she has a very hostile vagina, but it's not every time we have sex that this happens.
It has happened in the past, but never with enough regularity to get alarmed.

There's been no drastic dietary changes lately, or an influx of spicy food. I try to live pretty healthy lives when it comes to cuisine.

If it continues to happen we will go to a doctor but I figured there would be no harm in seeing if anyone else has had this problem.
It's put a damper on making love because she worries that she'll hurt me, and let's face it, it does burn.

Thank you to those who take my request seriously!
-j

Hostile vagina!!! LOLOL.

But seriously, it's probably the condom. Do read on, as I am NOT advocating bareback.

You may be allergic to latex. You may be allergic to the spermicide. Nonoxynol-9 can cause vaginal lesions, so I imagine burning you is not out of the realm of possibility.

Try Durex Avanti or Lifestyles' Skyn, both made from polyisoprene
http://www.condomdepot.com/product/detail.cfm/nid/184/pid/3421

Note - I've had condom breaks with a well endowed partner and the Avanti, so check the size chart.

Oh, and the reason I switched to poly condoms was because latex and especially spermicide irritates me, so I am speaking from experience :)

Using different brands could explain why it only burns sometimes. Condoms that use Nonoxynol-9 will say so on the box.

I agree about the use of condoms with spermicide in them and the latex ones. I am highly allergic to latex. And the condoms with the spermicide makes me burn like I'm on fire when i pee. So much so that I actually stop the flow of pee.

If you only experience the burning when you're engaging in sex/wearing the condom, it's very likely that it's the condom....the spermicide....or the lubricant.  Changing one or all of those brands/types may help considerably--your doctor might be able to make some recommendations.

Note that if the burning continues--see your physician and/or urologist right away to rule out some other conditions.

I agree with the others but if your not using a condom this can be an early sign of HPV (human papilloma virus). If you are going bareback you need to get yourselves to the doctors.

Another thought. Does your partner spray herself or use any sort of special soaps that you could be having a reaction to?

Jinger -> RE: Burning Desire (1/18/2011 10:14:50 AM)

My partner and I have both been tested.
It IS likely that it's the condoms because I have very sensitive skin and other brands have caused
problems in the past.

We tried a different brand last night and it wasn't a problem so I'm thinking it's the condoms.
Whew!

Just one word of warning with the non-latex condoms-- be sure to either use plenty of lube, or otherwise try to avoid "rough"/super-energetic sex, as the non-latex stuff is not as forgiving and stretchy as the rubber ones and i have experienced them breaking during play when the latex-type wouldn't have (the morning after pill is NOT fun, FYI). This isn't to say they aren't reliable; just be sure to use lots of the slippery stuff when you play [:)] (there's loads of different types of lube out there, and if your significant other is thrush-prone and therefor unable to use the glycerin-containing water-based stuff, there's loads of silicon-based ones available that are safe for use with condoms).

If nothing else, this gives you lots of reasons to "experiment" with different types!! [:D] Have fun "researching"!!

Jinger -> RE: Burning Desire (1/19/2011 9:08:52 AM)

I will have fun researching!

Thus far the Lifestyle-Skyn condoms are working out great, but I can't help but wonder: if I'm allergic to the latex/spermicide, then why would it burn only around the testicles/base of the penis? And why around the time of climax?

I just threw up a little in my mouth.
And no, you can't eat said throw up.
