I have noticed the duration of scences can vary quite a bit, sunday was 3.5 hour romp , yet another day could be 45 minutes. So on average, how long do your sessions last? just curiousity more than anything...

Two or three hours, which also has some to do with the type of play that I'm doing.  I almost always mix impact play with something else, so it might be impact play first, then followed by fire, the wand, or needles.  Wax on it's own is a two hour deal right there.

2 or 3 hour scenes were pretty customary; as LadyPact said, it depends on the type of play you're involved in.

in public, though, they sort of top out around 30-45 minutes. time considerations limit the types of activity people will do in public, though some friends of mine would bring their own massage table and do fire cuppings for people all night.

Anywhere between 45 minutes and 6 hours. I have done some very long sessions but they were based on things like kidnap and stuff like that. Steve and me once had a consensual fight that lasted just over 4 hours. Neither of us would give in and every time we got our breath back we were fighting again!

It depends...it's usually easier to define the end of a scene than the beginning expecially if it's a live in relationship (24/7).
What I mean by that is if it is not a live in then it can start with an email, a phone call or a look across a room.
When does a 'scene' begin when say one is travelling to meet someone?
And then again I suppose it is easier to define if props are involed but with emotional sado-masochism afain dificylt to say.
And if one is owned then there is the added dimension of having no definitive beginning or end.
Is a scene begun by consent?

With those We own, if We're doing impact play, We're fast. There's very little warm-up... 0-60 baby! There's also little of the cuddly aftercare that most do; aftercare consists of being at Our feet, wrapped around Our legs or with a head in Our lab, or something along those lines. Other scenes simply require time due to what's going on. Piercing can take a while as can branding and cutting.

Sex is another topic entirely since We don't have sex with Our current slaves. That takes hours... hopefully those are well spent.

These days an hour to an hour and a half. We find that shorter, less intense scenes have much less drop. Optimally we would play two or three times a week. But we don't do a lot of impact play, mainly bondage and sex. I can't handle long bondage sessions any more, unless he's changing the ties. I go numb faster than years ago.

I tend to prefer the longer drawn out sessions. But things like work and schedules tend to interfere with that so it happens less often. Average for me is 8 to 12 hours.

The quickie for me is 4 hours
A good work out is 8 to 12 hours
The long haul 24 to 36 hours

A quickie for Me is about an hour, such as in public play, most at home would last 2-3 hours, plus aftercare and debriefing.

Yeah, 3 1/2 hours would be a quickie for me right now - once you get to know each other better, then shorter, faster scenes are in order.

I think it helps if you can incorporate foreplay into it, i.e., tell here what you're going to do to her, tease, etc.,  let the anticipation build, get her into a lather before you actually do anything about it - you can do a lot with just words.

In fact, studies show that some women get more gratification from the anticipation than from the consummation - actually, I think that might go for both sexes, albeit, human sexual response is such that it does require periodic satisfaction, as it plays a significant role in hormonal regulation.

Those studies would be true for me. I love anticipation and the more advance notice I have the better and hotter it is.

My mind can get me in that lather quickly. Although I would disagree about anticipation being better than the actions.....if that was true, I would not be so hot to see the person.

Oh, and I like 2-3 hours. [;)]

During the week on a "school" night, an hour to two would be the norm. Weekends are our real play time and our sessions usually last 3-5 hours. With an occasional 8-12 overnight session.
