babygurlangel -> Roof of mouth hurting when I eat.. (2/12/2011 3:56:01 AM)

The roof of my mouth has started hurting today when I eat.. to the point that it took me a few hours to be able to eat a 6in subway sandwich... I tried to google it and look it up on web md and either I don't know how to use search or its impossible to find the info I seek. What could make the roof of my mouth hurt that bad but only when I eat.. and it makes it hard to swallow until I stop eating after about 30 mins to an hour it quits hurting but after just a few bites it starts to hurt again.. I hope someone knows thats going on.

I would think about what you ate the day before, or anything you did with your mouth. Anything out of the ordinary ? Usually things just don't happen. If so it's a bug of some type and you'll probaly notice some kind of other symptoms.

I get some soreness the next day, say if I eat some really hot wings or something like that. Or really spicey spaghetti. Things like that. It goes away.

Whenever something like that happens, always look back. What did you do the last day or two ?

babygurlangel, I had the roof of my mouth hurting recently.  I wrote about it in the health and safety area, asking about which doctor should I go to, and it is somewhere on page three.

It wasn't the type of pain that comes from eating several pieces of toast, where the skin on the roof of the mouth has been roughed up, but deeper inside.  I even felt a bit of a bump in the roof of my mouth.

My nasal cartilidge had been sore the week before, from a small puncture from one of my furbabies.  This could happen from having had a sinus infection or allergy.

This was the old thread:

LanceHughes made a post and left a link that hit the nail on the head with my problem.  The soreness is gone now, but it took weeks.

I hope you find out what caused the roof of your mouth to be so sore...what helped me was making frozen smoothies every day from milk, yogurt, frozen chunks of banana and frozen strawberries.

Quite.

It might be a symptom of a herpes virus. In that case it will require two weeks to recover. In that case limit yourself to yoghurt and non-fancy vitamin C tablets. In that case no oral cock-loving ever without condom.

Well, I am sure its not herpes I was tested recently for every std and came up clean and been with my Daddy only for over a year... so I should be fine.. and we live together and when he isn't working we are together.. so I know he ain't cheating. The thing is I didn't do anything out of the ordinary and the pain was with any food even yogurt made it hurt... and it felt like it was swollen when it hurt.. It has gotten better and yesterday we went out to eat and I just pushed through the pain and I think that may have helped it stop hurting quicker but the first day I couldn't do that.. it hurt too bad.. I am just wondering if grinding your teeth when stressed can make it hard to eat or not.. I know i grind my teeth just never had this issue before. I hadn't eat anything to cut my mouth it was just like my mouth was going to split open or something..

Well, since you asked....

Causes of Pain in Roof of Mouth

Here are some reasons why a person may suffer from pain in roof of mouth. These are not the obvious reasons, but some possible reasons because of which a person may suffer from roof of mouth pain, which is sometimes accompanied with bumps on roof of mouth and sore roof of mouth as well.

Burning Mouth Syndrome
Not a serious problem, burning mouth syndrome may lead to pain in roof of mouth. Exact cause of this syndrome in unknown, but it is said to be a resultant of misinformation spread by the sensory nerves of the oral cavity. It is also said to be caused due to oral yeast infection as well as anemia. If the pain is caused due to yeast infection, then it is better to treat it on time, so that further ailment could be stopped.

Infections
Various infection can be the main reason behind pain in the roof of mouth, which fades away once the infection is treated. These infections are both viral infections as well as bacterial infections. These infections affect on the palate and make it sore. Sinus infections, strep throat, common cold, staph or any such bacterial infections are some of the reasons why a person feels pain in palate region.

Mouth Cancer
This is a bit severe condition that may be the reason behind the pain in roof of mouth. Mouth cancer is of two types; lymphoma (cancer caused inside the mouth cavity) and melanoma (cancer caused outside the mouth cavity). Lymphoma is generally caused at the base of the tongue and around the tonsils region. This may cause roof of mouth pain.

Other Reasons
There are hundreds of other reasons of why a person suffers from pain in roof of mouth. Various kinds of allergies that attack the insides of the mouth, ear infection, tooth abscess, mouth ulcers, diabetes, menopause, perimenopause, poorly fitting dentures, oral thrush, dry mouth, herpes, canker sores, vitamin deficiency, mineral deficiency, eating very spicy food, eating very hot food, chewing tobacco, smoking, etc. are the reasons for roof of mouth pain. Read on sores on roof of mouth as well.

Treatment for Pain in Roof of Mouth

If the causes of roof of mouth pain are situational, then one needn't worry about it, as the pain definitely gets away once the reason is cured. After eating very spicy food, one can eat a spoonful of yogurt. Yogurt is cool in nature and helps in ailing the pain quite remarkably. It is also a better treatment if one is suffering from mouth ulcers or vitamin deficiencies. Try to consume vitamin C and vitamin E in good quantities so as to relive yourself off the pain in roof of mouth. For the time being, avoid all sorts of hot and spicy foods that may cause more pain. Read about mouth sores cure as well.

Pain in roof of mouth caused due to sinus infections and tooth abscess, may fade away as soon as its root cause is treated. One should be concerned about it when the pain doesn't go away in a few days and is repeated over and over again, without any visible cause behind it. In such condition, it is always better to consult a health care provider and get the cause evaluated. I would rather suggest you to go visit the doctor in any case, so that, the pain doesn't get aggravated. A doctor is the best judge, and will lead you towards the best path of treatment.

That is why I asked on here.. nothing I read on line helped and what I read on webmd didn't sync up with what I had lol.. I have no bumps and no cuts and it just hurts when I eat.. when I quit eating give it 30 mins to an hour and no pain whatsoever lol.. I don't get it and thought that surely to God I wasn't the only one but seems so far I am lol

tazzygirl -> RE: Roof of mouth hurting when I eat.. (2/14/2011 1:14:01 AM)

Is the roof of your mouth red? Your tongue? Is it only at certain times of the day when you try to eat? Or is it any time you eat?

In all honesty, we can all sit here and guess at the cause. Your best bet is to go to your Dr or Dentist. It could be just a yeast infection... it could be sinuses... it could be that you are a mouth breather when you sleep and your mouth is just too dry... or it could be something more serious.

babygurlangel -> RE: Roof of mouth hurting when I eat.. (2/14/2011 1:36:59 AM)

I have an appointment Wednesday for a different reason I will mention to the doctor just in case... I didn't look at to see if my mouth was red at the time of the pain.. otherwise it looks the same as always. And it is anytime I eat that it hurts. I figured after this was up for 24 hours and didn't get a response that I would tell my Doctor... I was just wondering if grinding my teeth was the issue I hope the doctor has more info than the stuff online lol
