Toppingfrmbottom -> Ok, so I or someone sick at his work made Daddy sick. (2/18/2011 4:50:06 AM)

He's achey,  coughing quite a bit, got the chills,  was shaking bad enough to notice when he got out of bed to come to my side of the bed because I fell asleep with the light on an my glasses on ,and it difficult to talk,  and at one point his voice was so weak he was squeaking, but no sore throat. He's gonna stay home from work if they let him. That's really big, he's the kind that has to be near dead an he'd still try to go to work.

I hope this shit aint a flu starting up. if it is he'll give it to me and I am still not over what made me sick. and the dr can't figure out just what's going on with me.

You didn't get a flu shot because?

If he has the flu the have stuff called tamiflu that will help him and you, should you get it. It helps you recover quicker.

I don't believe in them. My mom gets flu shots, and so does my dad, faithfully, every year, and every year, they're horribly sick about 5 times a year,,  laid out can't breath throwing up sick as a dog, and  I, never get a flu shot, never had one my whole adult life, I don't think I've ever had one, i can't say as a lil kid though cause I don't remember. I am never sick unless someone sick comes around me spreading their germs an  gives me a cold. I can count on one hand how many times  I've been sick in the last 10-15 years. it's been that low.

That indicates something to me. It can't be conincidence. Well ok it could be, but I put no faith in those shots given that 2 people in my life who swear by them are frequently very sick, and I, who refuse to get one, isn't sick very much and can count on one hand how many timess in 10 to 15 years they've been sick, and never once with the flu..

So pretty much you get sick all the time or you seem to be.  The flu shot isn't supposed to cure any and all sickness, you can still get colds etc when having the flu shot.  It sounds to me like your immune system is very frail if you get sick everytime someone who is sick or has a cold or such comes around you.   Most people don't.

You should speak to your doctor and perhaps understand the shot a little more, because it could be your parents aren't getting the flu but are getting colds or infections that the flu shot doesn't protect against.

angel no, I'm not sick all the time. I have health problems , like dermatitus, and  knee pain an joint pain all the time, but it's diffrent than being sick. like I said I can count on one hand the times I've been sick in 10 to 15 years. It's that low. I still have no faith in flu shots, being they're always sick. Sometimes they're sick right after the flu shot. We live together, we're together many times a day, I don't see how they can be laid out sick all the time, and I can count on one hand how many times in 10 to 15 years I've been sick. And never once had the flu that I can recall. They're both seniors, so that might have a little to do with it, but they're always sick right after or any time it's been close to the flu shot.

The most seriousillness I have had is strep throat, I got it  as a child.

So yeah, still not buying into flu shots.

Oh, i see all kinds of posts about how your nose is always stuffed up or you aren't feeling good etc.  But glad to know seriously you aren't always sick cause that would suck.

Again, i don't think you understand what the flu shot does -- it protects against getting the flu -- NOT getting sick.  If people are passing bacterial infections all around and your parents are susceptible to same -- the flu shot doesn't protect them from same.   And if your parents are alway sick and you aren't lol then you don't get sick from everyone when they come around with germs and such.  Maybe i just misunderstood what you were saying.

However, i will say this -- if you haven't had the flu in years and you don't get the flu shot, i see no reason for you to get it.  I only got it this year because i got the actual flu (didn't even know it the first time i had it as i was coughing and i didn't know coughing was part of the flu!) every year since working in my new place -- which has a lot more people with kids than my old firm and my doc insisted.

So if you aren't getting the flu -- i don't see why you should get a flu shot.  And if your doc is okay with you not, then no issues.

FR...to Tfb,
Angel is right: the only thing the flu shot does is protect you from the influenza virus.
The influenza virus is not the same as a tummy bug...ie "thowing up sick as a dog". That is a gastrointestinal illness or even mild food poisoning.
The influenza virus is a respiratory virus.
A cold comes on more gradually than the flu; the flu is sudden onset with fever, chills, body aches, fatigue, coughing and frequently a headache.
The flu can last longer.

Flu vs Cold

Your parents may get sick more often simply because they interact with more people and/or are not as good with handwashing.
