I can see that resistance play would be well outside the normal range in formal/ traditional D/s or M/s relationships, but does that make it edge??? Is 'Edge Play' just another buzz phrase that means different things to different people? And by the standard that seems to have been applied to resistance play, would it be edge play if I told my wife she has to address me as Sir at all times? Hmmmmmm if she had to do it at times when she was highly uncomfortable doing so, then yes this could be termed *edge* ... as it is at the *edge* of her comfort zone. Now, perhaps she personally doesn't have this *edge* as it has been softened. Another's experience would be different. Does that make it completely meaningless? Well perhaps for the person whose edges are softened .. but for those whose edges are sharp, yes it has definition. *Edge* just by itself .. with no qualifiers .. does not have meaning. It has to be known what *edge* it refers. Depending on the situation, can refer to anything .. in a broad-based, multi-paddled environment such as this =) it does and can. At a play party however, I would be concerned if the rules stated "No Edge Play" .. for what does this mean? It would have to be spelled out .. ie, no blood-letting, scat, watersports ... for some venues, it might mean fire or wax play, for some, it's penetration. In negotiations with a potential partner, it's important to know if their edges correspond with mine ... if one edge is sharper than the other's, the needs of the latter may be compromised in the end. For me, edge has another meaning besides that generally of a limit ... I had a partner who trained me to request an orgasm by saying "edge" ... as in, "Sir, I'm at the edge.. please may your girl cum ... please???" .. and then when he did say "Yes" .. my mind and body were right there instead of having to work back up to it by all that begging heheheh .... so he had instant gratification too [sm=whoa.gif] So, I would have to say "No" .. edge play has many meanings.
