The same could be said about you and tazzy.

There are articles based in science that counter what you initially said... and then you tried to deflect and outright deny.

Ever seen the effects of watering down infant formula to make it stretch farther?

Well they wouldn't get as much nutrition, but that would be the only problem.

Do I support watering down formula? No, that would be stupid and harmful to the child. I just don't think that has much to do with water intoxication. That is cause by the infant drinking to much water or any liquid, not the ratio in the bottle.

You know, it is okay to be ignorant about something.
You only became wrong when you began to insist your ignorance was in fact right.

I have a questions though.  What does this mean to 'get' 15 formulas?  Is this an allotment?

Where/How do they 'get' them? Is this like a food bank system?

*side note: Quebec gives an extra allotment of 50ish dollars a month to breastfeeding mothers--regardless of their income. (I assume it saves in healthcare later in life from the system).

Get as in consume.

WIC provides for some of it. With a reduction in WIC it will reduce the amount of formula they will receive.

No, but I kind of wish it was. At least then the allotment would be for nutritious food or needed formula and the coupons wouldn't be getting sold.

When my ex was in the Navy, I did my grocery shopping on Base. I got off work early, so I was usually there midafternoon. Invariably, I would be in line behind a young mother with 2-5 kids, a cart full of groceries (frozen dinners and junk food were frequent purchases), and lots of WIC coupons. Just as invariably, I would check out, go to my old truck, and see the mother I had been behind loading the groceries into a new SUV that hubby bought with his float pay. I have to say that was a bit annoying.

What was worse was seeing/ hearing others selling their coupons to pay for things like beer and insurance on those SUVs (conversations carry in big parking lots, and they weren't very subtle about it). That isn't what the program is intended to pay for.

This was years ago and things may have changed, although I still sometimes see folks in the local grocery with carts full of frozen and junk food using WIC coupons. Personally, I would like to see the program 'tightened up' rather than cut.

ahhh THAT wic. (btw, isn't it military only???)

uhhg ok., my ex husband was USMC and we qualified for that (what a ghetto paycheque, it is a SHAME).

I had that qualification but refused to use it. I think it was only for cheese though, but not sure. Formula we paid for (had the first 3 babes 4 and under) though, if that was covered, I have no clue and never checked.

I went back to a full time cook job instead. I ain't showing some voucher for some goddam food, cheese or a slice of bread.

Nope, not just for the military. That said, most of the younger enlisted with kids qualify, due to the truly ghetto paycheck.

There is a specific list of things which the WIC checks can be used for.  In addition each individual check can only be used for specific items on the list.  That is dependent on the age of the child.

So no, any buggy "full of junk" you see being pushed around is not being purchased with the WIC checks.

That does vary from state to state, but they are all similar.

This is the link describing WIC benefits:

http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/benefitsandservices/foodpkgquestions.htm

And another one describing better the types of foods allowed:
http://idahopublichealth.com/wic/wic-fact-sheet/

There are some variations within states but benefits do not include junk food. I am fairly certain that is inclusive of TV dinners.

As I said, what I saw on Base was many years ago, so things may have changed or some of it may have been paid for with food stamps. That program appears to be much less specific as to what can be bought, but I will admit to being mistaken if it is similar these days.

Food stamps makes sense.
You can buy junk with food stamps.

Most people inadvertently do buy crap with their food stamps: ramen noodles, rice-a-roni, boxed macaroni and cheese... all the mass produced cheap stuff now that is full of empty calories and devoid of nutritional value.

And then they can buy juice boxes that contain little or no juice for their kid's lunches.

I never found any PX's or on-base grocery stores cheaper than in the real world, usually they were equal (if that) or more expensive.

Enlisted pay really is "Ghetto pay." They need to raise it up and by quite a bit!

Its always been ghetto pay. But isnt it offset somewhat with BAQ's and other benefits?
