Here I thought the reason for Iran to boycott the Olympics would be losing most of what they participate in.

How long does one have to stare to decide the logo looks like Zion?  That must have been some awesome hash.

Some assholes just need attention no matter what else is going on in the world.

I just cannot see why the olympic games just cannot use the age old symbol for the olympic games, why the need for these obscure logos, as they are guaranteed to annoy someone, for where the games are held, it will be plastered everywhere.

As to the London Olympics, I have no intention whatsoever of watching them, as quite simply, they do not interest me, but I will have to endure olympic bullshit for ages whether I want it or not.

One wonders, just what percentage of the UK population actually wants these games, maybe it is all this crap will only serve a minority, but ah, of course, business is involved, so, commerce.

Personally I think the Iron Sheik should get involved in this contentious issue since on the one hand he is an Olympic champion, and on the other his patriotism to Iran cannot be questioned as these clips attest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehv_Md1BJ74 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsUyMMyL_z4&NR=1

Yeppers. That sounds like a good explanation! If anything it errs on the side of flattery! I would love to know where to get some of that hash! Iran is just down the road from Afghanistan, home of the world's best hash!

I hadn't seen the logo before hearing this claim. But I didn't have any trouble seeing ZION when I clicked on the link. In fact, I didn't get that it was supposed to be "2012" until I read the article! The putative numeral "2" seemed clearly a "Z" -- and it's not that much of a stretch from there.

Of course, I could be stoned.

lol.. thats always a possibility. I didnt see 2012, nor did i see "Zion", at first. All i saw were a bunch of shapes. Reading top to bottom, then left to right, I suppose you could make the case for the Zion part... at a stretch. Most countries dont read that direction.

then again, im bored.

The logo should just get trashed for being crap. I didn't see "2012" either.

It's a terrible logo for sure.   But turning into an anti muslim rant is a reach even for the nut cases in Iran.  E.ven taking the 2 as a Z gives you the same Z on the end.  It takes some manipulation to turn it into a N.

I suppose it's a slightly more dignified excuse than whining about female athletes showing their legs would be...

For a country who doesn't need a reason to blame us or the UK for being demons and meddlers, I don't doubt their paranoia.  However, I can "see" Zion in the logo, sorta.  If I wanted to see it and was looking to see it, that is.

Well yeah, but if you were looking for it, you could probably see Zion in the Dungeons & Dragons logo, couldn't you? (Particularly if you came from Iran...)
