This is why so many of us are so adamantly and permanently opposed to any form of gun registration. History and this current event both show that the temptation to (pick one: evil or mischief) is just too great for too many politicians.Next step: confiscation.

So let me see if I understand what is going on here.

You need a handgun for protection but then you are in danger because people know you have a handgun?

It would take a repeal of the 2nd amendment for confiscation to happen.

And considering the fact that WONT happen, what are you worried about.

You have to register your car, are you worried about that being confiscated?

The only thing the NRA has accomplished is to guarantee that hundreds of lawyers are going to get into their arguments about guns.   All that they have done is get the argument into the courts.   There will always be the question of whether somebody is sane enough to buy a Chinese AK knockoff, and how big a magazine he gets.

And most of those arguments are going to be financed by the gun industry that wants to sell more engraved revolvers, 30 round magazines, and the sort of tchotckes you can sell to John Wayne wannabees.

The entire discussion is political bullshit, intended to distract fools from real issues like education, economics, and who we're at war with today.

I don't think it is about the registration so much as having your address and phone number publicized.     Personally, I have no problem registering my weapons.   We don't have that requirement so it doesn't matter, but when I was military it was mandatory.   However, my address and phone number is no one's business.   With this ruling it is allowing everyone that hates guns to call you at all times of the day and night and harass you, block access to your home, etc. in a non-violent manner of course   lol

any form of gun registration

Gun registration is really unfair, because it assumes a fellow knows enough reading, writing & ciphering to fill out the forms.

Actually, I voted for Obama in 2008 because I was worried about having a president who couldn't string 2 coherent sentences together to explain why he invaded the wrong country, or why he told the CIA not to worry about al Qaeda striking in the USA, or why he pardoned his buddies for outing CIA agents, or where he had been when he was when the Air Force thought he was on base, or why he turned the SEC over to the Enron branch of the GOP, or what he'd been smoking today.

You know, those technical details.

Just how is your address going to become public? It is not a matter for public access.

It doesn't take much intelligence to understand how this information would be invaluable to criminals.
They would know not only which homes to hit to steal guns when the owners were away but also which homes to invade in the expectation of finding unarmed homeowners vulnerable to rape or whatever.

Hardly. Check New Orleans under Nagan.

?
From the linked site:
"Responding to a public records request from The Associated Press, Attorney Gen. Lisa Madigan's office issued a ruling Monday night that declared the names of gun permit holders to be public information that must be disclosed."
Maybe you'd be comfortable with the AP having this info. I am not.
