ejmichaels -> Seeking reviewers for m/m erotic romance (3/1/2011 5:26:21 PM)

I hope it's okay to post this here. I'm in the process of getting a short story into shape for submission to a publisher, and I wanted to get some opinions from some other people who know something about BDSM, a characteristic not present in the people who usually help with my editing.  I'm not looking for proofreaders, rather, more general feedback (although if you catch errors, great). This is not the story I wrote about in an earlier post. Because of the extensive confusion resulting from that post, I wasn't going to make the request, but I met some very nice people along the way who made it worthwhile.

Quick info on the type of story - erotic romance; gay male couple; their relationship is more top/bottom than D/s, at least in what's shown; explicit vanilla sex described in addition to bondage and impact play; about 11,000 words (15-20 pages, depending on formatting). Unlike many romances, it's not about the couple getting together. They're married, but they need to work out a sexual matter. Lots of sex, not much plot.

Thank you!

I  might be able to set aside time to do this.  Life's a little unpredictable currently but if you want to forward me a draft I'll try and give it the old editor's once-over.

Thank you!  I just need to figure out if I can send attachments...

Why don't you just post the text of the story here -- either as one piece or in "installments," and ask folks for feedback? I'd be happy to take a look. :-)

^ Thanks, I appreciate your interest. To answer the question - I would not be able to publish something that previously appeared on the Internet. A publisher can't make money if people can get the same stories for free.

Ahh! Good point! I hadn't thought of that. I'll contact you off list to discuss it further.

I edit, proofread, and know something about BDSM - go ahead and send it to me in a CMail.

As a straight male submissive, I'm probably not part of your target audience. I can sometimes enjoy male/male BDSM fantasies, but I like them best when they're very impersonal - I find romance and sensuality between men rather unappealing. With that said, I appreciate good writing and interesting characters, and I'd be happy to look at your story if you think you might find my perspective helpful.

Thanks to all who replied! I appreciate the interest and help.

It turns out I wasn't allowed to post in the Creative Writing section, where I expected to find readers and writers, so here we are in Marketplace. Just to be clear, there is nothing for sale, nor am I seeking to acquire anything other than people to read on a volunteer basis. I will happily return the favor in kind, if appropriate.

ej,

You might consider posting a snippet of your writing (a scene or two), on Creative Writings, followed by a request for beta readers for the whole thing. I've posted snippets (several, in fact) there, and the work is published. I haven't lost any copyright. I also posted an early unpublished version of one of my novellas in that section years ago. Still was able to publish it.

Great idea, thanks. I've been told I can post up to about 10%. This story is almost finished, so I'll try that next time.

Unrelated to this, it's weird seeing my status as "offline" while I'm posting. I wonder where I am...
