littlewonder -> RE: Collar Problem (Hair) (3/10/2011 4:39:41 PM)

why not just explain to him that the collar is a problem and see if he'll buy you something more practical? Maybe just a simple necklace chain or bracelet instead?

My other concern if I were your Dom is the vanity you put into your hair but that's me...unless he likes that I suppose. I could see it causing problems down the road with other things such as hair pulling/tugging, being dragged around and getting your hair all mucked up, etc...I'm hoping your hair doesn't hinder your relationship.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Collar Problem (Hair) (3/10/2011 5:26:25 PM)

A new collar doesn't have to be a major upgrade, just say ( however you address him) My hair gets caught on the collar, it's not pleasant, and it breaks my hair, could we please try a new style of dog collar.

If you don't brush or hardly comb your hair how do you keep it tangle free? My hairs thick and lusterous, and silky and it tangles every day, and if I don't brush it every day, say like I'm being lazy an it's been 3 days, ooooooooh you're gonna pay for that in snarls and tangles an a hard time getting them out.

And again same question but for shampoo if you don't use shampoo what do you use to clean hair? I ask cause maybe I'll try those tactics:)

So there's the history here. The problem is that my long hair gets caught in the buckle of the collar. It pulls and breaks the hair. I am a "long hair person," meaning that I baby my hair. I do everything in my power not to break it. I don't brush it and I rarely comb it (finger combing only). I don't shampoo my hair or blow dry it. I don't even use expensive conditioners because they contain damaging agents. It might sound funny, but I baby my hair with cheap hair care!

I just had to do a major chop so that I could get a straight hemline. I went from nearly BCL (butt crack length lol) to just past BSL (bra strap length) but I have my straight hem. I don't want to lose that hem! It cost me a lot to get it :(

Any suggestions for what I can do with my hair to stop it getting caught in the buckle? Or is there a way to cover the buckle so that it's not a problem? I have to take the collar off in the shower and bath, but otherwise wear it all the time.

I would cover my hair, by the way, except that Master prefers to see it ;)

hausboy -> RE: Collar Problem (Hair) (3/10/2011 6:42:33 PM)

Just a thought here, have you considered either taking your collar to a leather shop for a modification...or getting a new collar..one.that has a velcro closure--that is, buckleless?

angelikaJ -> RE: Collar Problem (Hair) (3/10/2011 6:52:18 PM)

My thinking is that if this collar is a problem then another collar may not have the same issue.
There may be a rough place on the buckle or something about the buckle's construction or style that is causing it to catch on your hair.

Lots of women (and men) wear collars with buckles and also have long hair.
Most of them don't have the same issue.

I would look into getting a collar designed to be worn by a person.

It looks strange with the buckle at the front. I've tried that.

I'm probably going to have to do the braids. The ponytail is still catching in the buckle because of the loose strands, and a single braid is also catching. Master doesn't particularly like this style though, which is why I was hoping for something else. He has specifically said that he doesn't like braids or buns. I asked him what else was there, and he couldn't answer. lol

Well now I'm confused. Either there is a misunderstanding here or you didn't quote the part of my post to which you are referring.

While I'm mostly replying in general to your original post, I chose to quote this particular post because it's the one where you said it feels strange to have the buckle at the front.....

quote:

I don't like the buckle at the front because I think that it has a "heavy" look. I find it awkward and I tend to prefer elegant. Unless I'm sorely mistaken, so does Master. I've only had one collar that is "showy" and amazingly, even in the public eye, that has not drawn a lot of attention. I just don't like the look of a front buckle. Or the feel, for that matter. Again, it's heavy.

Some (like me) find a certain appeal in the "chains of bondage" being heavy. Not awkward or unwieldy, but a physical reminder of their presence. It's all about the headspace.... So is the visual appeal of a leather dog collar.

As for the "look" of the buckle, you can't even see it without a mirror. Just to be thorough, are you saying your master doesn't like the look of the buckle - or are you making that call?

There's a time and place for everything.... I like elegant, too; and subtle. That's why I'm an advocate of two types of collar - public & private.

Ok, you don't like a buckle. And velcro just doesn't do it for headspace - or comfort if the connection's misaligned. Now, I don't have a pic or know if it has a particular name but there is a type of leather collar that doesn't utilise a buckle. Instead of small eyelets (for a buckle), it has a series of slots on one end and a fixed 'D' ring at the other. You wrap it around your neck then place an appropriate slot over the 'D' ring and secure it with a small pad lock or clip etc.

I didn't see it mentioned in this thread but I'm sure someone (probably everyone) knows more about Google than I. Try "lockable collar", maybe.... If padlocked, it's no good in emergency (visitors) as the sub presumably doesn't hold the key. I personally don't care for the look of them as I like to see buckles and utility 'D' rings etc - that's where *my* headspace comes in.

Focus.

hisdevin -> RE: Collar Problem (Hair) (3/11/2011 8:04:12 AM)

That's the type of locking collar that I was referring to actually. The metal doesn't tend to have seams and it doesn't catch, or at least hasn't in the past when I've worn one. Unfortunately most of our gear got stolen.

As far as the position of the buckle, I'm not sure that he has a preference except for me to be comfortable. I find it uncomfortable at the front. It's never particularly been an issue for us, though I can talk to him about it.

In general, mine is not a micro-managing master. He doesn't call all the shots in our relationship because he just doesn't want to.

LOL I don't think Master would prefer me with a buzz cut, though I've considered that, and dreds. He doesn't like those either :(

Your issue is with the buckle.

So, it is quite likely another collar (perhaps one designed for a person) would not have the rough edge that is causing the issue.

I was once given a play collar (before a collar actually had meaning to me)
I have long hair, not as long as yours, but long enough that had the buckle been problematic I would have known.
It never caught in my hair and my hair tangles very easily.

It seems that getting another collar for the interim is not an "upgrade", but a solution to a problem.

edit: missing letters

hisdevin -> RE: Collar Problem (Hair) (3/11/2011 7:41:10 PM)

We're discussing another collar now.

I think that part of the problem is that the hair is quite fine, and it breaks more easily than I would like. That being said, the last cut only cut out the layers and there were very few split ends. One of the reasons I don't put any heat on my hair at all :)

VideoAdminAlpha -> RE: Collar Problem (Hair) (3/12/2011 2:06:24 AM)

OK, folks, while I definitely empathize with the concerns some users have, the thread is about long unwashed unbrushed hair and how to keep it from tangling in the OP's collar. Broaching the other subject and all the ramifications that may bring to light is against TOS on this board. If you feel that you would like to broach this further with the OP or have any other concerns with other members of the household, please take it private. If you then feel a need to make further conversation or take further action, please do it off this board. If your post was pulled earlier, it was because it mentioned the breach of TOS I am speaking about, quoted it, or commented on someone else that mentioned it or quoted it. Sorry folks, but back on topic, or let the thread die please.

LPslittleclip -> RE: Collar Problem (Hair) (3/14/2011 10:03:37 PM)

using a small fabric sock and cut the toe out of it and please it on the collar before it is fastened and then slid over the buckle to keep the hair out of it should be good

feyfairy -> RE: Collar Problem (Hair) (3/18/2011 12:15:16 AM)

There are some buns that look really hot. With longer hair you can do this:

Flip through some long hair tutorials on youtube, maybe there is a up do you and your Master may enjoy.

cut it short so it is out of the way. A slave does not need its hair.

French braid to back of head, let the rest cascade as it will be pulled away from collar area by the braids.

And an alternative to shrink wrap may be clingfilm.

ranja -> RE: Collar Problem (Hair) (4/16/2011 4:50:18 AM)

Thank you so much for that link,
i was gonna suggest a chinese pin/stick/peg thingy, they come in al sorts of different sizes and colours and materials and you can just twist and twirl your hair and secure it with the pin and it looks oh so sexy

and when you pull out the pin all the hair comes just tumbling down... oh lovely

as far as the collar goes, just get a better one, don't make an issue out of it, safe your hair girl

ForeverFire -> RE: Collar Problem (Hair) (4/16/2011 8:56:13 AM)

I have this issue as well with O/our heavy-play collar.  His solution was for me to put my hair in a high ponytail on the crown of my head.  Or pig-tails.  But I think I look like a demented anime character with the pigtails.

I adore ponytails - the sub's handle...! Which is why I insist on my girl having long hair. I generally prefer to see her hair styled and flowing etc but for play, it mostly has to be in a ponytail. And if we're going somewhere in a rush and she hasn't got time to do her hair, then again I expect her to default to a ponytail and not some messy, half-arsed bun pinned up in a rush - arrggghhhh!!!!!

But yeah, pigtails are for little girls - literally - and that doesn't rock my boat in a sexual context.

Focus.
