Coming in on the wave of  "cut all this government waste!" and "time to do something for the people!", etc., we now have before us ...

A congressional hearing on ...

OK, stop right there.

"A congressional hearing on ... "  ,  regardless of whatever follows; unless it concerns an immediate and heretofore unknown issue, just how would this fit into the notion of "cutting government waste" here?

Is this something that needs brought to our attention? Something that we've not heard for ten years already, completely inescapable if picking up any newspaper or magazine or any webnews bleating?

Is it, as proposed by some poster here, for purpose of "gathering of facts"?

Well thank goodness! I feel safer now.

I say, I most surely would have been left totally in the dark otherwise. We all know that the media and politicians have conspired thus far to keep us blissfully unaware of any danger from non-WASPs from other countries these past ten years. In particular, no mention of those Islamists at all. Oh, heaven help us and thank you! Oh Great Congressional Hearing!

As for the "fact" gathering; I am sure that The Department of Homeland Security, the CIA, the FBI, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, the Office of Naval Intelligence, the Department of State intelligence unit, the Bureau of Tobacco Alcohol and Firearms and Explosives, the ...

- saves readers the following two pages of the list - ...

all await with bated breath the precious "facts" they are to be blessed with as outcome from a "hearing" from these obviously further qualified politicians.

Have I mentioned how much safer I feel now?

Not to mention the better sleep as obtained in how congress is jumping all over the issue of wastefulness.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, zzzzzzzzz, ...

Oh sure they are and their number one aspiration is to detonate a nuclear bomb in the middle of NYC, right?

Charles6682 -> RE: Republican Islamaphobia in terrorist hearings (3/12/2011 10:00:53 PM)

What about that bomb that blew off in that black church in Birmingham,Alabama back in the 1960's?The one that killed 4 little innocent girls?Maybe the white supremacy groups have set off bombs on a smaller scale but still. They are a terrorist group just as much as any muslim terrorist group is.It just seems the white powder groups have been slowly dieing out the past few decades and their not as powerful as they once were. All the hangings of black people that were commited during the slavery and jim crow era. That was alot of lives lost.

No, the "supremacists" prefer places like Spokane.

As for Manhattan, Phill Gramm and Citibank and Goldman Sachs et al. took care of that one, but in the wrong direction.

Unfortunately, the consequences have in fact left lower Manhattan quite intact, to the detriment of the rest of the country.

I should not comment further here ...

DHS, NYPD, and other law enforcement seem to be coping quite well without the supposed benefits of Rep. King's hearings.

Just because someone claims to be Christian, does not mean they follow his teachings. Satan is a christian. Convince me or anyone that they will immediately go to heavan and have virgins, or whatever, for doing some horrihble act and I believe they would do it. The radical element of Islam, as well as the non born again christains, kill many of their fellow believers. There are more being killed in the Muslim countries than anywhere else.

truckinslave -> RE: Republican Islamaphobia in terrorist hearings (3/13/2011 5:25:17 PM)

Not at all.
Islam is far more dangerous, more violent, and more sexist.

truckinslave -> RE: Republican Islamaphobia in terrorist hearings (3/13/2011 5:27:54 PM)

What was that big bad home-grown rightwing "Christian" "militia" group Janet the Nappy busted a few months ago?

Are they in SuperMax yet?

truckinslave -> RE: Republican Islamaphobia in terrorist hearings (3/13/2011 5:32:00 PM)

Or we could just ignore any and all threats to our country and just hope they go away.

You are aware that this same weak minded pacifist feeling-passing-for;thought can be applied to any enemy?

Better not kill any Nazis. It will just make it easier for Hitler to recruit more.

The hearings are dealing with DOMESTIC terrorism, not international threats. Now since you cannot seem to grasp the difference, Timothy McVeigh was a DOMESTIC (homegrown) terrorist.

That means he was born in the United States, or was a citizen of the United States.

You really don't study history do you? Do you know what it was that made people follow Hitler?

Do yourself a favor, research the Nazis, Wekipedia has a good short article on the topic. It might just open your eyes.

It does not matter.
My point was that the argument frequently made against killing/investigating/pissing off Muslim terrorists ("Don't don't don't!!! The sky will fall!!! You will make then hate us and they will recruit more!!!! Leave them alone!!!! PLEASE don't piss off these kind wonderful gentle people or they will kill us") can be made against about any enemy.

Foreign or domestic, here a distinction without a difference.
Our enemy is global, and some are starting to see it. I don't mind being ahead of the curve, as usual.

jlf1961 -> RE: Republican Islamaphobia in terrorist hearings (3/13/2011 9:58:16 PM)

Actually truckinslave, if you look at our history of interference with other countries, nothing we do will end the threat of terrorism.

Our support of Israel has also made us a target.

I have never said dont anger them, but I have said, repeatedly, dont single them out. You are under the mistaken assumption that ALL Muslims are extremist fanatics bent on attacking the US.

Strangely enough, the radicalization of anyone, Christian, Muslim, Hindu begins with one basic idea. You constantly tell people what the cause of everything wrong with their lives, tell them who is to blame, and then get them to believe that an individual can make a difference.

It was the same way with Hitler. He told the German people who was the cause of their lives and the economy being so bad, and how they could change it. Hitler was such a charismatic speaker and he used speeches and theatrics to influence crowds, doing it so well that people wanted to believe him.

It has been surmised by the people in the intelligence community that the same techniques are being used by Imams who are followers of Bin Laden. Anwar al-Awlaki, the American citizen currently hiding in Yemen, uses his sermons to promote violent acts against America.

quote:

The legitimizers and bearers of Islamism are religious figures— the radical imams, even if the ideologues (such as Hassan al Banna, Sayid Qutb, Bin Laden and Ayman al Zawahiri) seldom are. Without them, the entire ideological, political, and psychological edifice of Islamism would crumble. It thus follows that any long-term solution to the threat of Islamist terrorism has to start with Islam’s radical clerics —especially in the West, where they are more free to operate than in Muslim countries. In contrast, the terrorist operatives themselves, most obviously those willing to commit suicide, are expendable, since their motivators and recruiters can always produce more— and they always do.

The problems with applying this obvious logic to counterterrorism in the West is familiar—where does free expression and religion stop and incitement to murder start? What is the personal responsibility of a Muslim cleric who has never personally committed a violent act, but only recruited, indoctrinated, and motivated the actual murderers? Radical Imams and Terrorists

Sanity -> RE: Republican Islamaphobia in terrorist hearings (3/14/2011 3:57:02 AM)

Thats why the religion of peace sends suicide bombers into churches / nightclubs etc in the Philippines, in Turkey, in Iraq, Iran, Pakistan...

All these places support Israel?

If anyone slays a person
- unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land -
it would be as if he slew all people.
And if anyone saves a life,
it would be as if he saved the life of all people.
Qur'an 5:32

Invite all to the way of your Lord
with wisdom and beautiful preaching.
And argue with them
in ways that are best and most gracious...
And if you punish,
let your punishment be proportional
to the wrong that has been done to you.
But if you show patience, that is indeed the best course.
Be patient, for your patience is from God.
And do not grieve over them,
or distress yourself because of their plots.
For God is with those who restrain themselves,
and those who do good.
Qur'an 16:125-128

Oh you who believe!
Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to God,
even against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin,
and whether it be against rich or poor,
for God can best protect both.
Follow not the cravings of your hearts, lest you swerve,
and if you distort justice or decline to do justice,
verily God is well acquainted with all that you do.
Qur'an 4:135

The recompense for an injury
is an injury equal thereto (in degree),
but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation,
his reward is due from God,
for God loves not those who do wrong.
But indeed, if any do help and defend themselves
after a wrong done to them,
against such there is no cause of blame.
The blame is only against those who oppress men
with wrongdoing and insolently transgress
beyond bounds through the land,
defying right and justice.
For such there will be a penalty grievous (in the Hereafter).
But indeed, if any show patience and forgive,
that would truly be an affair of great resolution.
Qur'an 42:40-43

Goodness and evil are not equal.
Repel evil with what is better.
Then that person with whom there was hatred,
may become your intimate friend!
And no one will be granted such goodness
except those who exercise patience and self-restraint,
none but people of the greatest good fortune.
Qur'an 41:34-35

I have the Qur`an on disc, and have read it, have you?
