I wondered if some of you lovely people could help me with something rather strange.

I'm in a relatively new relationship with Master, and we are playing increasingly hard (I'm a serious masochist).

Last time we played, I was caned pretty mercilessly and spent a lot of time screaming and crying.

Anyway, after we'd finished and were snuggling, Master remarked on redness around my eyes. I thought nothing of it, as I was rather hot and sweaty and...well...lol

But in the morning when I looked in the mirror, I was surprised and rather worried to see a large number of very tiny red marks all round my eyes (although mainly underneath), extending down my cheeks and up to my hairline. The best way to describe them would be 'almost-but-not-quite bruises'. They're that reddy-purple colour that you get when you hit yourself quite hard, but it doesn't turn into a proper black and blue bruise.

My first thought was these were petechial (sp?) haemorrages that I've read about in numerous serial killer novels, where the victim is asphyxiated. We didn't do ANY breath play at all, and he only slapped me once lightly across the bottom of my face.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Has anyone else had the same thing happen?

Is there anything I can do to prevent it happening again, or to minimise the after-effects so I don't get adverse comments from colleagues/family?

Thank you!

yeah, I used one of those facial eye-soother masks that you put in the freezer.

It doesn't hurt, and it only lasts a day or so, but it's a bit odd...

I'd for sure talk to the Dr., then...  a dr. may be able to at least offer insight as to why it's happening.

I would describe the "recent incident" to your PCP as very upsetting and you would prefer to not go into specific details, then go on to describe your symptoms and ask what could have been the cause.

I get a similar type of rash when I get very stressed and have a crying episode- most of this occurred last year right after my brother died. In my instance it was/is small subcutaneous hemmorages and they clear up in a day or so.

Pure - yes, that's pretty much what I thought it was. It was more unsightly than anything else, and if it's going to be something that happens after hard play, I need to find a way to minimise it if I can't stop it happening.

Thank you for your input

The most common cause of petechiae is through physical trauma such as a hard bout of coughing, vomiting or crying, which can result in facial petechiae, especially around the eyes. Petechiae in this instance are completely harmless and usually disappear within a few days.

Sounds normal to me, if it disappears within a few days. If you are taking something with aspirin or had any alcohol intake, they may show more easily. If it bothers you a great deal, talk to your Dr. Not knowing what medications you are on or your diagnoses to date makes it harder to offer any other advice.

Thanks Tazzy! I'm fit and healthy and take no medication other than my asthma preventative (beclometasone) twice a day. No aspirin as I'm allergic to it.

But on the bright side, as the weather gets warmer hopefully the bruises may be hidden by a tan

I have had petechial hemorrahges on my face after labour with my first child (pushed for 4 hours) , and have had the same thing after wonderful sex where i had increased my interabdominal pressure - ie.pushed, causing raised pressure in my head and face. Doesn't do anything other than look mildly unsightly.

As for stopping it? - i'm not sure you can. If you don't valsalva you could probably not cause them, but for me that would take away some of the sensation.

The same thing happens to me after I have the stomach flu (vomiting hard)...goes away quickly. If you decide to talk to your doctor you may want to ask if your body will get used to it, maybe it will stop happening after a period of time.

In most instances these kinds of marks can be found with pressure straining or asphyxiation. Appearance after a particularly hard session where you were screaming and crying is not surprising. There is no way for sure to know exactly what they are without witnessing them. Obviously when practicing such play, it is hard to maintain the thought to monitor your bodies response at all times. Specifically, these marks tend to be the result of improper breathing, straining and pressure. Some people find themselves holding their breath and bearing down slightly during a good caning. It is important not to do this and to try and maintain even breaths. The strain of screaming, bearing down, and improper breathing can lead to things as small as the appearance of the little dots(which is small amounts of blood that come from leakage of capillaries due to pressure and reach the surface) to capillary rupture of the blood vessels in the face that are closer to the skin or in the eyes leading to what appears to be full bruises on the face or a reddening of the white part of the eyes.

Basically, try to practice breathing as evenly as possible and minimize straining as much as possible. If the problem then occurs again, talk to your doctor.

Great advice thus far....try to control your breathing, and you might want to have your blood pressured checked...a really good concealer, something that is helpful in hiding the evidence.

Thank you everyone for your help - it's much appreciated

The next challenge is to cut down on the screaming and concentrate on the breathing. Hmmmm...definitely a challenge!
