Maybe not when you've got occupying forces from half-way round the world in your country.

It's being occupied because Mullah Omar allowed terrorist training camps in that country, so let's not pretend this is imperialism.

That's why it was occupied but since the terrorists have since found other places there hasn't been a good reason to be there for a long while.

We are just putting off the inevitable through fear of coming to the realisation so much of it was a complete waste of life.

Also I'd add that Pakistan used to be full of moderates, now they are having members of their parliament killed by extremists. That isn't progress, there was no risk of the happening prior to 2003. Everything we touch turns to crap. What we are missing and what we have always failed to recognise is how these wars inspire people in the region.

Because the Taliban still have a strong hold there and if we abandon the country we will be faced with the same situation.

Fine, would you prefer the word "distortion"? Surely you are not taking the position that any ,save the zealot, actually intends that ancient tracts be taken literally.

This is what their "ancient tracts" tell them to do. How do you know they aren't doing the right thing? Would you tell the ancient Aztecs they couldn't cut the hearts out of people to sacrifice to Kulkulkan? That's their faith.

Uhhhh.............yes?

That's the problem with faith.

It can be used to justify any atrocity.

At least you get the point.

These are people who are perfect in their faith. They adhere to it unquestioningly. They follow the strictures of their ancient tracts to the letter of the law. The law of their gods. and the law of their gods say that adulterers are to be punished or killed, that there be no false idols (the Koran), that war shall be waged on the infidels.

Yet, amazingly, in the bible, they questioned the teachings of god all the time.

Now, what amazes me is that we are putting a man who burned a religious text on the same level as killing people.

You will never get me to see the equality in those two acts.

THAT is exactly what that dumbass preacher did to inflate his own ego and buy 15 minutes of fame.

Innocent people are DEAD because of his actions and he is probably proud of himself.

Do you support him? yes or no?

Bull-fucking-shit!

And that is down right racist.

The murderers are responsible for their own actions. Saying that the preacher in Florida caused this is saying that the poor 'ittle rag-heads cannot make decisions for themselves. They are just a little pawn to America's Queen.

Jones choose to burn the Koran and these fucktards choose to murder innocent people. The blood is on THEIR hands, not Jones's.

No they are not.

Innocent people are dead because of people who think it is their right to start killing when they become offended.

I never claimed equality. I stated that both acts flowed from irrationalism, which is what faith is.

And I seem to recall that in the bible myth the god punished those who questioned it.

tazzygirl -> RE: I hope that dumbass preacher in fl is proud of himself (4/2/2011 11:09:21 PM)

I disagree.

The poet of Psalm 44 accuses God of falling asleep in a time of desperate need. Many times over, Scripture gives voice to people feeling abandoned by God – whether it is the Psalm writer who calls out, “my God, My God, why have you forsaken me” (Psalm 22) or Jeremiah, who curses the day God created him.

The Bible does not hide or judge people’s feelings of anger, resentment, hurt, and disappointment with God. People in the Psalms didn’t hold anything back – they told God exactly how they felt. Gideon tested God and Jacob literarily wrestled with God. Moses and David boldly interacted with God. The Bible is bursting at the seams with people questioning God; many challenge God, others cry out in anger – people like you and I, just being honest with God. The message from Scripture is loud and clear: God can take the heat.

Abraham does his best to bargain with God, most of the book of Job consists of arguments by Job and his friends about the deepest questions of human suffering. God is practically on trial in the poems of the Lamentations, and Jesus responds to almost every question he’s asked with … a question: “What do you think? How do you read it?” he asks again and again and again. There is no question that Jesus cannot handle, no discussion too volatile, no issue too dangerous.

Seems like Im not the only one.

Well you must be among the elite, because I've never had a conservation with either of those guys.

And I've tried, but they never seem to want to talk to me.

Hi Alee

To me it would be different if he were not warned... Let me put it this way...Common sense told you and me that if he burned that book someone...most likely Americans would be killed. I knew it...you knew it...he knew it...and he did it anyway.

To me he is a murderer...worse then the people who did the killing. They did it out of ignorance and the worship of a bastardized version of a great religion. He did it knowing full well he was putting lives in danger.

He is not a Christian… he is a psychotic megalomaniac that at best deserves to be committed but I’d rather see him locked up for the rest of his life.

This type of carnage could have just as easily been provoked by a left leaning political cartoonist.

Since the mob is blaming a right wing Evangelical nutcase, the murderers are somehow less culpable this week.

The West's "gift" of Democracy or whatever Obama is getting people killed for in Afghanistan will surely make the UN's sacrifices worthwhile.

Thirty seven US soldiers died in Afghanistan this March in Obama's Operation Enduring Freedom.

Perhaps the people of Afghanistan will settle down and behead fewer innocent people after a few more years of occupation.

There are times I think "Lighten up, Francis."

I am discussing what the bible says about questioning god. I am not discussing if there is a god.

This is nonsense Butch.

What you are doing is giving in to the concept that others have the right to react violently to someone's non-violent act.

What in the fuck are you babbling about?

Remember that cowboy guy who led us into Afghanistan?

No I'm not...I am saying anyone who knowingly promotes violence and murder is as guilty as the murderers and deserves to be punished accordingly.

He burned a book. How is that promoting violence?

kdsub -> RE: I hope that dumbass preacher in fl is proud of himself (4/3/2011 12:06:48 AM)

He did not promote it in any way.

He just demonstrated his view.

Not that I'm trying to defend the idiot, but to suggest he is responsible is the same as saying the government was responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing because McVeigh was angry at the government.
