Status: offline 		In a matter of months my job as I know it is gone. My options are to move along or run the place. Running the place will start out as a pain in the ass until people realize that I know what the fuck I'm doing. I can increase profits and make life easier all the way around. The old boss is a fuddy duddy and a DP, and I have called him that as well as told him to go fuck himself. But I always smile :-).

Now if he doesn't retire his olady is going to kill him, same difference really. He owes the IRS a shitload of money but he has them under control. Now the thing is he wants to do a thirteen. That means, since it is a sole proprietorship, one his name is off of it, the debt goes with him. That is accepted and all figured out.

The problem is that someone's name has to go on it. The old boss is out, who is to be the new boss ? I will not work for anyone else there, they simply lack the competence. I am the proud holder now though, of a highly coveted piece of paper. It is a court ruling that I got the chapter seven bankruptcy. I can't file again for about seven years or something like that. And it's doubtful I'll ever get a second one. 

Now the thing is I think I can make this place work. I know what's going on and he doesn't plan on being there long. The other day I was directed to do something that was a bit less than ethical and I spoke up, the response was "I will not be here in the long term". It wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it had about a thrity percent chance of coming back to bite "us" in the ass. He wants to gamble now because he plans to leave.

At this point in time there is no other viable candidate to take the place over, other than me. I am not even 100% up to it and will depend on the core crew for help. I have ideas, things that will make us more money. I have tried to bring them up but the boss won't allow it because he is embezzling from himself to support a sex adiction. He has his own IRS agent. I don't mean a lawyer, I mean an agent. They did whip his ass into shape but he still owes them about twenty or fifty grand. That does not fall on me, his plan is a chapter thirteen and let them take his house and all that, and then move to FL. In the old days you would move to FL before the bankruptcy, 91 days before to be exact. The laws were very favorable. But no more.

So his IRS problem cannot be discharged, but the sale of his assets should take care of  good piece of it, and if someoine (me ?) takes over, the vigorish we pay him will make the IRS payments. We will be in the clear. No part of the business is collateralised.

Now here's the real problem. He is out for the quick buck, he knows he is gone soon and really doesn't care about the business. At this time I am still working for him. In my cpacity I can lie, cheat and steal with impunity. When he wants to do something that is not quite ethical I can make the cost prohibitive. Is my loyalty ultimately with the customer as I say ?

Is it moral for me to look out for my own interests in case I sit in that big chair, for the good of the business or should I remain loyal to the old boss, no matter how foolhardy his decisions ?

If I chose to, I could make or break the place very quickly. If I let it break, or break it, that will create a vacuum in the market which I may be able to fill independently. Morals are only part of the issue, my future is the other part. I'll roll this fatass up in a joint and smoke him if it is in my best interest. But I have this saying that I've had for a long time, and it hs served me well - The work cannot suffer. The work cannot suffer.

Is it the customer or the guy behind the desk to whom I owe my loyalty now ?

Status: offline 		If the option of running the place is open, you should take it. Certainly, you don't want to not have a position at this time, in this economy.

Status: offline 		In your position, I would take the long-term view.

Assume you will take it over, and you can't go wrong. Treat your customers like you would treat them if they were YOUR customers. Pretty soon they could be, so you want to keep them sweet and coming back for more. Word of mouth is dangerous in any business - a 30% chance of something biting you in the ass because of unethical behaviour could turn into a 100% chance of other customers (or potential customers) finding out about it and avoiding you.

As for the boss - screw him. He's screwed the IRS and seemingly his customers, so you owe him nothing. He seems hell-bent on leaving on a financial high and screw anyone who's hurt in the process, be it customers or staff. Keep him on a short leash, and stop him messing around with your life. Assume you're taking over the business, so that if (and when) you decide to do so you're taking over a viable going concern, not a fucked-up shell of a company.

I fucked it all up. Thanks, and I will reply soon. But I think I am going to go for the gusto. Fukit, I only plan to live once. Don't be trying to put a second life on me, fuck you I am only responsible for one.

Of course I could gut the place and strike out on my own..........

But damage control is what it's all about. In this situation there is already X amount of damage. The next step is to not cause any more damage.

I know what the most important thing to any business is, and I know how to take care of it. And this guy with the shitty record keeping, my ass. Show the IRS you are being accurate and paying, and when you create a paper trail either run it into the ground or just live with it. This guy wants a chapter thirteen, and is going to give up his house and boat, which might almost take care of it. He had his fun and now it's time for Florida for him. Put him out to pasture.

Let's see how the next couple weeks unfold. See if Ed comes back to town, I'll put him to work part time. If the guy rips off a ninety grand a year job what do you think he'll do to a fifty grand a year job. He is VERY sharp, but he can't be trusted to go buy a fucking light bulb. Damn shame. They should make crack legal, then he could have crack breaks, like fifteen minutes or something, get his ass back in the groove. Motherfucker. An excellent resource I can't - or more don't want to - tap.

You see if I use this guy, the business will become dependent on him. I WILL NOT allow that, perioid. Really, I might give him one day a week, good pay of course, maybe $30 an hour cash. But no hands on the money or the customers. No contact with the outside world. No cellphone or anything. And if they call and say his Mother died I will tell him not to let it happen again. I can be a real motherfucker and in business, I know exactly when to do so.

As long as I am in control I can deal with this part time. He will not be changing coolant, I want his electronics brain. He is the only one who could really take my job away, but not now. Could HAVE I guess. You need to understand, we know how to swing a scope. What that means is that when a unit comes to me for diagnosis, I know more in fifteen seconds about what's wrong with it than another guy could find out in a half an hour. Well Ed is also that good. What's more he has a good eye, a steady hand for those delicate "operations" and a very solid background in digital, much better than mine.

But he thinks he hit rock bottom, he's in jail awaiting extradtition. Stole ninety grand worth of shit, OK, so maybe he gets about three years. Then he thinks he's going to plop his ass down in that big chair and be the boss ? I don't work for people I can't trust.

You know, everybody seems to find God in jail. So obviously God is in jail ? Maybe that's the fucking problem, we need to get God out on a writ (of habeus corpus).

Fucking people amaze me. I can't belive they actually survive, They don't know what to drink eat or breathe, and they are also even stupider on top of that ? I think we should again let natural selection take place and not just have Darwin awards every year, but every day !

Whatever. I'll be baaaaaack.
