The only that would be possible is if you put a figure of me in a snowglobe.

If I reply to you, will it culminate in us sleeping together in the future due to the undeniable sexual tension?

I wish!  I don't think that's generally prescribed for home use though.

Norway is mine! Or haven't you heard? [8D] You can have everything up to Denmark. I'm pretty sure I conquered Finland, and Norway. Sweeden is on my list of people to do, and places to see. Tall, good looking people. Have to work on the laughter, and fun times with them; but if the charm doesn't the whiskey/vodka will. [:D] M

What works for you when you have difficulty falling asleep?

As a secondary question, has anyone experienced grogginess the day after using melatonin?
~Sleepless in the Pacific~
Melatonin works, when I'm exhausted, and need a little something to slow down my brain, with usually no side effects for me. Something stronger is necessary, when I'm preocupied with my closeknit family, and everyday life issues. I will allow little sleep in 48 hours, but I find something that works (meds) to shut me down after that. I have observed minds malfuctioning severely from extended insomnia trips.

-fast reply-

I used to struggle with insomnia, trying everything I could just to get a few hours of sleep. I decided at some point that the frustration isn't worth it. If I'm not ready to sleep, I'm not ready to sleep. So I go and do productive things, get a workout in, take care of any outstanding paperwork, that sort of thing. And if I'm dragging ass the next day, so be it. I'll either sleep well that night, or get wound up again and not be able to. The point is, I'm not fighting it. It is what it is, and I just have to sweat it out.

I can't say it's -better-, but it sure is less irritating, when I can take pause and note all the things I've done with the extra time.
And I'm always ready to catch sleep where I can.

YoungBlondeSlave -> RE: Insomnia (4/4/2011 11:04:50 PM)

When I have the energy I try to go to the gym when I get home from work since the gym isn't open when I go to work. It energizes me enough to get done what I need to get done and then collapse in bed at night. I also have a puppy who demands long walks, so that helps a lot too.

Pretty much anything where I'm out and getting fresh air seems to work, sometimes I'll just walk down to the beach with my puppy and sit and watch the sunset and see him playing in the sand and then walk home. That works wonders.

Oh, and sex, really really really amazing sex and mind blowing orgasms. That's always guaranteed good sleep. [:D]

In times of desperation when I don't have to wake up early for work the next day, but I still need to function somewhat, I take Benadryl. It works. More than 25mg of the stuff though tends to make me feel buzzed when I wake up though. Melatonin I haven't tried in years. I can't remember what it did for me.

soul2share -> RE: Insomnia (4/4/2011 11:07:57 PM)

I am an isomniac from before birth....really, my mother told me once that I was up all night and slept during the day.  And that, in a nutshell, is my whole body clock.  I will not work days if I don't have to.  Fortunately for me, I work in a field that is 24/7/265/, and I'm a supervisor's dream because I WANT to work the midnight shift.   I am no good on the uphill side of sunrise!

Melatonin works quite well for me, but I take the 3 mg pill, and usually about 3-5 of them.  The only side effect I get is really, really, really wierd dreams...not nightmares, but some really strange stuff!  I also added selenium, mainly because articles I've read say it's good for the thyroid, I'm hypo....and believe it or not, it has improved my sleep.  I'm not necessarily getting MORE, but what I am getting is better sleep.  When I"m really desperate, Ny-Quil is my sleep aid of choice, and I've actually had a doctor tell me to take Benedryl if I can't sleep.  The only problem with using the two of them is it makes my legs twitchy.  To the point of where I HAVE to get up and walk.  And they leave me groggy if I have to get up before it's effects wear off.

I watch tv to get me started towards sleeping, and if I can get to bed before I totally wake up from the couch, I'm good.  I also read.  The key to bedtime is to have a ritual, so to speak.  I don't do anything but read and sleep in my bed....sounds pathetic, going thru a dry spell.....but the "experts" advise that you do only sleeping in your bed.  I listen to an Evening with John Denver in my cd player, and fall asleep to that....so much so that I had to take it off my mp3 player cuz I almost fell asleep at work once listening to it.  I've played it so much that my body has adapted to it.  And as far as tv goes, I have about a half dozen dvd's that I only use to sleep by....I can pretty much know where in the movie I'll finally drift off.

Everyone reacts to different things as far as sleep aids.....I got Rozerem once, a 30 day supply lasted me about 17 days....I doubled up on the 8mg dose, it didn't do a damn thing.  I'm really leery of overdoing the drugs, both prescription or OTC.  I got addicted to Ny-quil once and really don't want to have to restart my system.  It took almost a week before I could even think about sleeping more than 2 hours a night.  At least the melatonin is a naturally occuring substance in the body.

I so envy anyone who can get a good night's sleep.....I've never had one.  I am so jealous of my cats....they just lay down next to me on the bed and in 2 minutes, they are out......how DO they do that?????

I'm just trying to understand what you mean by "narcotics". It's usually only LEOs who use that word for all drugs. It normally means opioids. And most pain docs (like mine) call them opioid analgesics.

I rarely have the problem When I do, I have some temazepam. EtOH is a no-no. Messes up your sleep patterns.

I'm no really looking for advice here, as I'm well acquainted with various remedies. I'm just curious to hear what works for others.

Meletonin works great for me.
And for those pesky once in every few months nights when sleep comes grudgingly a good swig of "Nightime" cough syrup has me sawing logs in 15 minutes flat.

Oxycodone.  I'm a gimp, so I have it for when my pain levels are to the point that I can barely keep from screaming.  I have once or twice taken two of them and had a really good nights sleep.  A big glass of wine has worked pretty well for me from time to time too.  Never both at once though.
