I explained to him that BDSM isn't about whips and chains 247 - that it's a lifestyle and that our version of it includes our furbabies .. that we have no need to 'prove' our dominance to him or anyone else, those that we are compatable with see it without us doing anything extra, those that don't see it aren't compatable with us ... and that he needs to open his mind to other lifestyles.

I like the mantra though ... I'll probably have to start using it

Yeah, but EVERYBODY'S status in a household is lower than that of the cats.  Humans exist solely to operate the can openers.
