Sorry tazz...i'm going with my private car...but than again I am not irrationally trying to blame the President for gas prices,I'm one of those folks who pulls up to the station and pays what the pump says....I treat it like the weather...bitching about it does no damm good.If I want to go somewhere...thats the fucking price.

Biodiesel is not all that hard to make mikey...and it's cheaper than free because you can sell the residue that is not biodiesel for about $100 per gallon.

I've seen reports where that's getting a lot more expensive, since a lot of fast food joints are able to get good money for their grease instead of giving it away.

Question for everyone.

If you had your choice between your private car and public transportation, which would you choose?

I would like to use public transportation, but there is none to use where I live.

The range on jack up rig is dependent on the depth of the water they would be drilling in, it runs from about $50K to $150K depending on the depth it is design to operate at and the speed and so forth on the rig, this rate is for a fully crewed and operated rig.

.................The current rig count including on shore is 1772 which is up 345 from last year....

I am very well known in the casing and inspection business and have been in the oil and gas business for a good while, I have been a partner in several API threading and inspection facilities in the Houston area and I currently do drive one of my own trucks, I own several. I drive because I like it, and I hate being in an office, but I can walk into the offices of NFR Energy, Nabors Drilling, Tenaris, Chevron, Halliburton, Schlumberger, Technip, Mustang, Patterson, MI SWACO, Exxon Mobil, and meet with VP level execs at every one of them who have been to dinner with me. My offices in the Galleria in Houston have had more oil execs in them than you can name and if you think I am just "some trucker" you might want to ask some oil men before you speak too loudly...........................

BTW, when B.O. takes away the itemized deductions from all the rich people I will be leaving with my money, the people who work for me can go collect unemployment because I will not be going broke to support the ideals of a marxist.

Thanks for your bona fides and your hard figures. So you've seen the environmental costs and know the business end of production. Do you believe that there is such a thing as peak oil or not?

What are your ideas or solutions to the growing energy needs of the world that won't foul our own environmental nest?

I hope you don't mention getting more natural gas by fracturing (frakking, or whatever it's called, I have no desire to be able to light my own tap water).

There are a finite number of engineers in the world. Some argue that we should put them to the task of "get more! so we can use more!" as people like Mark argue. Others argue that a smarter society would figure out how to use less.

There is a lot of money weighing in on the less smart option right now.

Bus passes in Pittsburgh are 22.50 a week. That gets me around 15 miles outside of the city. Its not always convenient, and they recently cut back service. But I still could not do all the running around I have to do for 22.50 a week in a private car.

I'm thinking it's just the easier. more profitiable option now. Wait til all the stuff's gone and we'll see how innovative we can get, I guess.

Oh give me a fucking break! If they wanted to benefit EVERYONE they would have had tesla towers delivering nearly free energy, internet, phone, remote viewing, and power for our cars and anything conceivable worldwide for over 100 years.

for our benefit lmao

Why do you need a break? I said NOTHING about "them" wanting to benefit everyone. I said building efficient homes and autos would. Since we aren't doing that, it's a pretty obvious point that these are not the choices they made---which is the point I made.

Aren't circles fun.

It's beyond that. The gangsters who run that business got the state assembly to pass a law that requires all food vendors who purchase cooking oil to account for how they dispose of it...there are only two "authorized" corporations in california who are "certified" by the state to "collect, transport and dispose" of wvo (waste vegitable oil). So in this state,at least, restaurants are not a legal source for wvo... one must be inovative and go farther afield to find untapped sources ...yes I am and yes I have.

6.6 gals reg. unl. for $25. tonight.   *sigh*

I wish I could do public transport, but (a) there isnt anything that runs from home to work that wouldnt cut at least 3 hrs out of my already screwed up sleep schedule, and (b) by the time I get off work, NOTHING is running between A and B.

$30. one way by taxi, so one week of taxi tranport would cost more than my rent.

Gas prices are now averaging $4 a gallon in 5 states!!!!

Gas prices average $4 a gallon in 5 states

Gas prices in my area {DC area}, are expected to start averaging $4 a gallon this weekend.

The reality of $5 a gallon gas, may be coming sooner than we think.

I guess I will start another gas thread when it goes over $5 a gallon.

I know this is hard to hear Marini, but the higher gas prices, as long as they are slow moving, are the best thing for this country. And not bad for the rest of the world, either.

I've already wasted a lot of time on this issue based on professional journals only to have someone tell me that I was 'dreaming' because of what her TV experts told her, so I won't waste the effort again.

Slowly increasing gas prices are a good thing,  that's all I can say.

They don't have public transport around here. If you live in Detroit, they have a bus system, but it doesn't help the suburbs at all and according to the people who use the city bus, it really sucks.

I agree in part.

Since the 70s, petroleum has become a major component of agriculture--not just farm machinery and transport, but fertilizers and so forth (not to mention plastics for the processed foods U.S. consumers love so much). As oil continues to rise, we need to also disengage from that marriage of petrochemicals and food. This is one major strength of the buy/eat local campaigns, but that's only a small start.

MAYBE, rising gas prices are good for the country. {I am not saying I agree with this.}

BUT, gas prices have not been rising slowly, they are currently rising rapidly.

According to almost every single media source that I see, gas prices are soaring at this time.
CBS News Gas prices SOARING and a threat to the economy

Gas prices are predicted to rise at least 3%-4% this year, and in this economy that would qualify as rapidly rising.
According to CNN Money, gas spikes feed inflation, just what we need right now.

Gas Prices Spike Feeds Inflation
