RML-  it depends on who the police chief is.  When they change- so do their policies.  So todays Jay walk could be tomorrows felony.

I dont have an issue with the use of bait.

I think it is a good idea.  I love when those thugs get caught.  Nothing innocent of happenstance gets caught up in that.

The show is on tru tv...

I dont like a ticket by mail. They want to give me a ticket based upon what they view on a cam, they can look up my license plate, come to my door, serve me a summons for court, then prepare to have the video as evidence.

Do you really want to live in a society where you are under constant surveillance every time you leave your home?  Because that is what is rapidly happening.

How so? And please, not just opinions, but easily researched facts.

Surveillance Society: New High-Tech Cameras Are Watching You

What people may not realize, however, is that advanced monitoring systems such as the one at the Statue of Liberty are proliferating around the country. High-profile national security efforts make the news--wiretapping phone conversations, Internet monitoring--but state-of-the-art surveillance is increasingly being used in more every-day settings. By local police and businesses. In banks, schools and stores. There are an estimated 30 million surveillance cameras now deployed in the United States shooting 4 billion hours of footage a week. Americans are being watched, all of us, almost everywhere.

US doles out millions for street cameras - The Boston Globe

WASHINGTON -- The Department of Homeland Security is funneling millions of dollars to local governments nationwide for purchasing high-tech video camera networks, accelerating the rise of a "surveillance society" in which the sense of freedom that stems from being anonymous in public will be lost, privacy rights advocates warn.

Those cameras are revenue-generators and nothing more.

I dunno about that. The footage would provide proof in a lawsuit.

That may be true but it is an irrelevant byproduct of the reasons they are being installed.

I view that as a fact of reality. The biggest law I break these days is jay walking... and even that is down because of the boot I have to wear. What are you worried about?

Please don't tell me that you are making the argument that I think you are making.

No matter how much surveillance we are placed under we shouldn't worry about it if we are not breaking the law?

Perhaps if you state what you think that argument is, I can answer.

I believe I just did, but let me try to put it another way.

Only the guilty have to worry about such things, if you are doing no wrong then your life should be an open book to whoever wants to flip through the pages.

But what happens to un-seat-belted you with your now-defunct airbags when someone head on collides with you?

(BTW, I don't get this - T^T?)

I have trouble believing someone broke no laws.

Believe what you want.

It's actually pretty easy not to break laws. I guess you and a few others are having trouble lol?

Icarys, seriously, it's damn near impossible to exist outside your house and not break some kind of law. There are tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of them on the books and noone can possibly know all of them (and a lot of them are REALLY fucking stupid).

I bet if the truth were known, you break some of em occasionally.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. You have broken laws, you just dont know it. I prefer to deal with people who are honest.

What possibly could you or others be doing to break laws? Besides BDSM related stuff?

Drugs, speeding, jaywalking, cheating on taxes, copying movies..I don't do any of those things...I mean in the realm of our everyday lives what is there to break? Unless there is some law on the book that says I can't take a bath till after 7:00 pm at night...I can't think of anything I'm doing that crosses the lines.

I can't understand how any of you would be doing a whole lot of law breaking either.

And yours as well in saying that the cameras were so effective many cities took them down.

You offered no data to support your assertions yet you expect me to.  It's your thread, you made the initial claims, the burden of proof is on you.

I already posted a link to this earlier for another poster. You are wrong and you have your mind made up. No point in me wasting any more time on the matter.

Spitting on the sidewalks is illegal in parts of Virginia.

Ever gone hunting on a sunday? Illegal, unless you are hunting for racoons, then its ok until 2am.

Since 1934, the state of Virginia has prohibited mixing wine or beer with spirits, which means that if you're enjoying a pitcher of authentic sangria and you're in Virginia, someone has broken the law.

Did you know you’re legally required to move into the next lane or slow down by 20mph if an emergency vehicle (e.g. police car) is stopped on the side of the highway? If you didn’t know, that’s okay. Approximately 71 percent of Americans don’t know about this law either. You may also be shocked to discover that violating this "move over" law could cost you $2500.

Nope. None of those as of one month prior to his question. Keep digging.

tazzygirl -> RE: Red Light Camera footage (4/23/2011 3:10:43 PM)

Im not digging. I happen to know there isnt a single person, unless they are home bound, and sometimes even then, that break at least one law.

Now, keep trying to say you dont. [;)]

Nope, Im sometimes wrong, and I know when to admit it. I dont pretend to be perfect. I am more than willing to admit that I dont know all the laws in my area, so Im sure I have broken at least one.

Just thought you were the kind of person who could do that as well.

Doesnt matter much.

Have fun

You happen to know? Do tell. How do you come by such knowledge? Did a university do a study on every single person that's walking and alive or dead. Man what a feat.

You're good for a laugh sometimes. The weight of that ego must give you headaches.

tazzygirl -> RE: Red Light Camera footage (4/23/2011 3:20:50 PM)

Nope.. did one in college.. a research study... years ago. Then again, they were at least honest people.
